It's like he was stuck headfirst in a barrel of super radioactive trash and is currently melting and dissolving painfully but then Mario appeared out of nowhere and started beating his head alongside a few cartel members until the yummy yummy head swelled due to the advanced brain trauma.

Been a rabid fanboy of this series since 1998, but I just didn't vibe with BotW at all, and TotK had _some_ improvements but was overall just BotW again with bells and whistles. Already decided I'm not buying the next game at launch and gonna evaluate the reviews and Let's Plays first, and if that one doesn't grab me, might just be time to finally part ways with this franchise.

    I feel very validated with this video cause many of the points you made are similar to mine. TotK was a game that blows you away the first tutorial section but quickly bores you overtime. It's a big world with a lot of nothing and while the building creator is neat in theory really lacks purpose once you figure out that making a cheap Hoverbike with the atuobuilder solves 90% of all problems.
    I think comparing/contrasting the depths of Elden Ring and TotK is a good summation of both games. TotK has the Underdark be this vast second layer just as big as the first: Only to realize its mostly just empty fields of pure nothing. ER has far less underground moments but every section fills you with a sense of awe and discovery. Not a single part in the depths of Elden Ring was dull or underwhelming, each and every area discovered left you in wonder. And the whole time playing TotK I thought "Boy, I'd rather be playing ER instead".
    Only thing I disagree with is weapon durability. I don't mind it as it helps with the games survivalist tone/atmosphere and does encourage to try new weapons.

      TOTK being on the switch really I think hampered it's ability to fill the world with shit to do. I accept if someone doesn't like a game I love but not critics with unfounded arguments like "there is nothing in the game/world" which makes me ask, did you even look or just focus on what you don't like?
    I don't know you so I am not sure how much of your videos are just satire and provoking on purpose so I'm sorry if I took this too serious.
    I just personally think this Tears of the Kingdom is full of things to do and especially to explore. There are four big temples, 152 shrines and a ton of sidequests that are far better than in Breath of the wild. And on my journey between all of these things I enjoy looking around every corner and even just sometimes enjoy watching the nature and atmospheric panoramas.
    Hell, sometimes I even watch the enemies beating each other up at some spots.
    Even if I am also not a big fan of breaking weapons Tears of the Kingdom gives you a lot of materials to craft endlessly new good weapons so this problem was kind of solved for me.

  • @Supershadow301
    @Supershadow301 5 месяцев назад

    You're entitled to your opinion dude, it's ok.
    Personally I think the fuse mechanic helps crack down on weapon durability. Before, it was annoying to fight small fries with bigger weapons because you'd waste them. The worst offender being silver-grade enemies, who were so tanky you were better off avoiding them to preserve your weapons.
    But in ToTK, higher tier enemies drop higher level horns which you can use to boost the durability and power of your weapons, which at least means if your average grunt-slasher breaks mid fight, you can grab a random sword, pull out a horn and boom you got a new one.
    Plus, you can swap your weapon type on the go. Need to break rocks but you only have swords? Stick a club-like horn or a rock, and bam hammer. Now you need a fire staff? Unfuse a sword, stick a ruby and bam.
    Same for arrows: managing 5 types of arrows was annoying, but now you can use various items to get the same elemental effect (+ a slurry of QoL effects using eyes or wings). My only gripe with this is you can't continuously fuse arrows, you have to individually items everytime you want to shoot an arrow, but baby steps I guess.

    Unfortunately i relate to this, like while ive found certain joys in this game, it was definitely lacking in certain aspects. But since i am someone that has the mindset of " once you start a game you have to finish it". And well after finishing it, i found myself liking zeldas story a lot better, bith gameplay wise and especially story wise.

      are you sure it isnt just something different you want ? one prefers "vast" the next prefers "dense". different doesnt equate to a higher standard . my gripes with the game arent just the issues the previous game had but also the fact that it was worked on for 7 years and that it is demanded from me to pay 70 bucks + 200 bucks for its console for a mediocre continuation of a story that doesnt fill any other strength this franchise had and barely expanded on what mechanicly was already there , with a terrible cartoonish flavor to it on top of it all which is just a complete different vibe to most zelda games arround the n64 snes era . its just not your or my cup of tea . but it is selling well so who nintendo and its shareholder certainly dont care lol .

    Honestly, I can agree with some of your criticisms as someone who enjoyed it (and Breath of the Wild too):
    *Too Much Nothing:* Sadly true. There's not really much reason to go to places unless you're trying to find literally everything, and yet most of the time it just gives you a weapon that you don't need. Okay...?
    *Building is Dumb:* HARD agree. The devs encourage us to be creative, but honestly I can't build something nearly as creative as other players have. I just need a good ol' sword or a simple build to do the trick, why bother being fancy or making something complex?
    *Too Big For Why:* Also agree; the Sky portion of the map is exceedingly empty, and also very samey, as you'll usually come across the same few reused floating islands and be on your way. Sure there's places like the Thunderhead Isles or the sky islands above the Zora region, but that's about it. The Depths as well; sure it looks cool, but it's just got Yiga hideouts, Froxes, and more bosses from both the Sky and Surface. The fact that most of the game doesn't take place in these new regions is pretty sad... As for the Guardians, I definitely prefer the Gloom Spawn/Phantom Ganons over them, but I can see why you preferred them.
    *Breaking Weapons is Dumb:* Gotta love it when devs deny a game mechanic being bad, huh?
    *Ugly New Guys:* I'll have to disagree on them being "ugly", but that's okay if you don't like them. As for how they act on the field, yeah, they are pretty annoying to use if you want to use a specific power. Why not add a mechanic to make them stick close to you?
    Overall, I love both BotW and TotK but they sure have flaws. TotK especially feels a little...too much. The story's great, but the gameplay does get exceedingly repetitive after a while with little to no variation after initial discoveries of new enemies and stuff, and I do think they could have added a few more.

Because I've been avoiding watching people play it because I've been wanting to savor every 'cool' moment for myself. But my worst fears are kinda confirmed because if there's nothing especially compared to the first. Idk if its worth the 70 dollar price point anymore. May have to wait to get it like I did with botw... On the sidewalk downtown. But what are the odds of that happening again

    I've clocked over 200 hours into this game, and yeah, you make excellent points. Totk gets boring, ESPECIALLY if you want to 100% it. 100%ing a game should not have to feel tedious like this

    • @dddmemaybe
      @dddmemaybe 7 месяцев назад

      It is distinctly anti-100% by design. Even as far as denying completion percentages with the intent to _orient you_ towards trying to only find what you _can_ naturally, and with your brain and wanderlust. If you're not mentally or exploratively solving it, TotK will not care about it any further, and will want you to do open world stuff instead of picking up pennies(no offense). Key word being "solve".

It was all cool and fun in the beginning, but when you realize the sky, and the underground are just reskins of the overworld, the magic is lost. Really wish the game was more but oh well, if others liked it then that's fine. Also building was a cool gimmick until it got annoying.

    While i don't agree, I understand why you don't like it. The only thing is, the weapons may seem weaker than in the last game and break more easily, you're actually supposed to use the fuse ability to make them stronger. In fact I made a weapon out of the giant spike ball and it lasted a very long time. Even longer than the fully powered up master sword in botw.
