I was arguing in comments section of a David woods video. When I brought up the topic of mutual respect, some random Christian guy was insistent that he will not respect any other religion other than Christianity. He kept on saying, if Bible is true then other religions should be false right? Only we Hindus are consumed with the idea of secularism.

As a westerner who was born Christian, was interested in many religions and finally turned to eastern thought, I have only one advice to give to my Indian fellow brothers and sisters in humanity : your civilisation is one of the oldest and most complex and beautiful cultures that ever existed. Dharmic religion(s) already encompasses many philosophical paths, even atheism. This is a treasure that should never be given away to make place for another religion that doesn't even compare in complexity and grandeur. Please keep on defending Dharma for the well-being of the whole world.

Akasha , I am a Hindu from birth and will remain so till my death . But during my life time , I always try to absorb all the merits of other religions , especially Christianity, and make myself a better Hindu . But I strongly resist conversion to Christianity .

Christianity/Islam are Master/Slave religions - one can see that their God is a King/Master/Dictator/Strong man a mile away. "Get down on our knees, beg for his mercy, obey and be rewarded" that is the mentality. But that WAS the mentality that was prevalent in those times - the King ruled without mercy, demanded obedience and loyalty and rewarded accordingly - hence Heaven or his Kingdom for believers(loyal) only! Boss, it appears there 12 /15 jews/rabbies were around during the period claimed to be existing/living. He could be an ordinary man. Later when paul or someone trying to put those writing, they could have written from the lives of more one or two or 12 or 15 rabies life events as cocktail stories under the brand name jesus. It is more a chaos and confusing cocktails and hence nor reliable to conclude existence of the personality called jesus. Leave alone the miracle parts.

I would give you an advice if you don't mind *Read each of the vedas and other Hindu scriptures, Compare them and think what they really want to say and don't ask the gurus anything ask God what you want to know* (believe me I study the Bible like that) and after when you would get all the knowledge of the Hindu scriptures then go to the Bible and read it. And another thing the talking serpent in the Bible was not an earthly serpent if you don't know why then know that the Hebrew word Nakhash which was translated to English as Serpent also means *The shining one*. And I was a Hindu who became a Christian. I am studying the rigvedas as an Indian it's important to know these right?. Don't forget about my advice. It's up to you what you choose. Amen.

They asked us to close our eyes and pray . We did . When we opened our eyes , they had our land and we had the Bible". Let not Hindus make similar mistake . If we lose our country , there is no way of getting it back .
That is not a Christian teaching, only that which Jesus said and done can be considered as the way to salvation through the carrying of our own cross.

In fact , even as a Indian Hindu , I have great respect for Jesus Christ and his teachings . I pray to Jesus Christ every day in my Pooja time in the morning and visit Churches often and especially during Christmas . In the past , Christian missionaries have done great service to the people of Inndia . But in recent years , Indian Churches and pastors are playing mind games on gullible and poor Indians . This is causing unnecessary tension between Christians and other nonChristian communities of India . I am against this . I believe all right thinking people should condemn this .

I think Rajeevji has nicely articulated this missionary formula in one of his lectures describing how christianity is digesting Hindu traditions and still spreading christianity, that's why we have many converts with Hindu names and typical Hindu symbols like bindis etc.

The problem is not the serpent, but the fruit of knowledge which is forbiden to eat. That's why when you are interresting in knowledge and reason, you can't be a christian.
kanaka108 Adam and Eve were full of Wisdom, so it was not Wisdom that they lacked. Adam names all the animals with the wisdom that he had. The tree of knowledge of good/ evil was a choice whether man wanted God as his master, or whether man wanted to decide what’s good/evil in his own terms. Sadly eve opted for this and roped in Adam to do it and now we see the consequences of this knowledge.
No one believes in a talking serpent. Stories are important for what they convey, not to be taken literally. Thats how hindus see it.

@Vijay Bhaskar : Namaste. Problem is multifold in the South as I see it:
1. Hindus do not learn the tattvam in their puranic descriptions. Consequently they become vulnerable to bad equivalences such as "Talking Serpent= Nagas". The two are radically different. Nagas, Ganesha, etc tje animal forms of dieties are not needed for Hindu dharma. Not so in the Bible. Without those stories, it is dead.
2. Hindus cannot match NGO money. And stupidly elect governments like @ysjagan's.
3. Hindus never recovered from British divide and rule, so the dalits believe they have been wronged by upper classes. Few realize that the brahmins, kshatriyas and vaishyas also suffered heavily under the British, for ex. how many Brahmins were eating twice a day even 40 years ago?
4. Hindus of the South are mired in working a job and making money at the expense of dharma. They cannot raise children right. They are raising remote slaves for the MNCs

I have not heard the name of Jesus in a proper context in this video. Ex hindu here. Christianity is not Catholicism. We are believers of Jesus and his sacrifice for our Sins. He rose from the dead gaining all authority over death that whosoever believes in him will never die but have everlasting life. There is no religion there folks.

Being in a selective religion is a matter of individual choice. I'm a Christian, and for me Christianity is not a religion, it's my personal relationship with God....I repeat , it's my choice based upon purely what I personally experienced,not forced by anyone. I do have close friends from Hindus n Muslims as well. I respect their views n celebrations, stand with them in times of need and they do the same in return.

I just have one thing to say, not everyone is same.
But the real issue is that when we believe in Hinduism or Islam, our inner heart know that we are worshiping an idol, which will do no good. When i was in Islam, touching the Blackstone and believing that will erase my sin didn't fit with me logically. When i searched on Hinduism, i didn't feel any faith to hang on, and the idea of Karma and reincarnation didn't make any sense because the earth has a limited age, and from the incarnated animal perspective, those animals dint have any problem being that animal.
But when i started studying Christianity, i felt that my prayers are being answered, and to believe in a resurrected Christ and heaven is not attained by human good deeds but that was a gift, that was so loving. and i felt a change in my character. i am still studying . AND WHEN GOD IS REAL WHO CAN STOP HIM?

I do feel very bad for this woman. I don't think she really understood what Christianity was and had a lot of blind faith and couldn't understand anything properly. I myself was born into an Indian Christian family but didn't really care about Christianity or what it meant until 5 years ago. That's when I started understanding what it was actually about and became a Christian. From then on, I have listened to many claims against Christianity but with the power of God, I have been able to find the truth and not falter in my faith. Praise God!

2) Sankalpa , forming a resolve in context of the grand narrative
3) Tapasya - getting out of comfort zone and work on individual contribution towards the grand narrative in any field of expertise of the individual
4) Sangha - Connecting and forming a network of people of similar interest
5) yagya - Giving back to the society , this whole idea of grand narrative is a yagya which requires a sanklpa ,individuals coming together with their own Tapasya and then these individuals becoming a group and taking and the whole experience becoming a grand yagy.

Your faith in God should not be only based upon individuals and their teachings. Simple eg: my love for my husband is not based on what i hear about him from other people but because of my personal encounter with him. And at such point if anybody even within the family or outside family talk ill about him, I would try to correct their misunderstanding or even if not, my faith upon him would not be shaken as I've known his heart closely.
Similarly, If you are personally and directly connected with the almighty with a pure heart, you will know the truth and the truth will set you free. Be it Christian or any other religion for that matter, have lost their focus from God and knowingly unknowingly end up misleading people putting their followers in dilemma and fear. Hence i choose to step away from such kind of religious marketing and followed my heart.
I'm a strong follower of Jesus Christ, i proudly say that and my faith upon him is not just based on human teachings but on my personal encounter, hence unshaken!
Unfortunately majority of us are following a particular religion because we were born in that family and so were educated only about that religion, within the circle we discussed only about our religion and gradually started blindly believing that to be a true religion. If so, then there is no point in blaming one another's religion because everybody is sailing on the same boat of blindly following their own religion. If Ester is a ExChristian so there are many biggies who are ExHindus, ExMuslims, ExBuddist and so on. They all have their own powerful reasonings and testimonies towards whichever religion they got converted.
I would rather dare you all to be courageous like Ester, be open to understand other religions concepts as well by going in-depth and then examine your conscience.. you will find true God. Trust me, It truly takes lot of courage!

I cannot argue with this advice. As a professional scientist I have always believed that we must question everything and go on questioning. A Christian should not only read the whole Bible, but examine thoroughly the background to each book within it- why it was written , what was the historical background, what was the cultural context and cultural context, how it all fits together etc. I believe that if you do this from a starting point of having truly understood salvation and been filled with the Holy Spirit, then you may come to a different conclusion to Esther and realise that within it is a message for all mankind that transcends our varied cultures. What Bible says is logical to those whose spiritual understanding is opened by God. But many other books of other religions talk of very illogical things. Let me explain : You said that Apple was given to Adam by God. That means you have never understood Bible. Bible never say that. No mention of Apple with regard to Adam and Eve.
You also said about talking serpent. But Bible only explains who that Serpent was actually.But you didn’t get that explanation which God gave in His Bible about that Serpent. Yes sister Esther, faith doesn't result from research but from seking the truh. I'm sure every true christian goes through a period where doubts araise. It was the same with me. Then I took this doubt to God and He helped me out in various ways each time I seeked Him humbly. I should also admit that there were moments when I tried to solve my myself the riddle through research. At these times God wouldn't speak and I felt empty. As Moins says God almighty reveals Himself to the poor and not the proud.

The main reason people lose their faith college is because parents / Church fail to teach the basic foundation. The basic foundation is to understand whether God exists or not. Whether we have evidence and then come into religion. I have been a skeptic for 25 years and I was born again. I read through biblical criticisms and the "contradictions" as Mrs.Esther has mentioned. Unless we form a relationship with God.. No amount of education can clear our doubts. It's not a intellectual problem but an emotional issue. I have read Church history and she said she found bloodshed, blasphemy and everything.... How does that disprove Christianity to be true? So how about Augustine or Aquinas or Origen. How does human evil in history of Church disprove the truth of a Christianity? This is called the Caricature attack. Which means it's just attacking the outward appearance. Humans are always evil and have committed genocides etc. So look at the core doctrine of Christianity... Look at the teachings of Christ. It was true about the Spanish Inquisition and Crusades but you also failed to mention there were other church father's who condemned it. And I appreciate you reading the critical unbiased books... If you base the religion based on human activities then probably your epistemology is flawed...

THE HISTORY OF YOGA

1. RIGVEDA (9-5000 BCE) (Eastern Russia, Middle East, outside India)
The history of the Rigveda represent the history of humanity’s earliest religion. Depending on the historian, the Rigvedic people composed their religious stanzas either outside India or inside India. Based on the evidence I have seen, I have concluded it was composed outside India. The Rigveda preached a ritualistic religion based on the worship of various Gods and Goddesses.
2. PROTO-YOGA from early shamanism (9000 BCE) Nepali sculptures show clear link between shamanism, yoga and tantra.
3. CLASSICAL TANTRA YOGA PERIOD (Shaivism), ca 5000 BCE.
The Vedic people migrate to India based on the genetic evidence of Dr. Spencer Wells (the National Geographic Genome Project) and Tantric history from the Puranas and from oral teachings. Developed by Sadhashiva who systematized Tantra and the Ashtanga Yoga system.
4. INDUS VALLEY CIVILIZATION (Dravidyan/Aryan culture of the Indus Valley, 4000- 2000 BCE) the three other Vedic scriptures, the Atharvaveda, Yajurveda and Samaveda are developed in India but not written down before approximately 800 BCE. The Atharvaveda was influenced by Tantra. The Pashupatinat sculpture shows yogi in seated asana position. Other sculptures linked to Shiva culture.
5. THE EPIC YOGA PERIOD: Krishna’s Yoga (bhakti, karma, jnana) and the Bhagavad Gita. (1500 BCE) Although the Bhagavad Gita is not written down before 800 years later most scholars agree Krishna lived around 1500 BCE. Kapila composes Samkhya philosophy, the philosophical basis of Ayurveda and the forerunner to the Yoga Sutras. Classical yoga texts such as the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads, etc. (800-200 BCE)
6. BUDDHISM (500 BCE) Ancient Shaiva Tantra Yoga blends with Buddhism. The Ajivikas and the Sramana movement-Tantric yogis who influenced this period. Upanishads are written (The Fifth Veda) Rajadhiraja Yoga of Astavakra (400 BCE) Author of Astavakra Samhita. Caraka Samhita and Agnivesa Tantra-the main text books on Ayurveda (200 BCE)
7. CLASSICAL YOGA PERIOD: Yoga Sutras/Ashtanga Yoga of Patanjali (200 BCE) Based in part on the philosophy of Samkhya and the practices of earlier forms of yoga and Tantra, Patanjali codifies his Yoga Sutras.
8. TANTRA YOGA PERIOD (Blend of Vedic/Brahmanic thought and Tantra), (500 AD)
The concept of Hinduism evolves during the Islamic invasion of India as distinct from Buddhist and Islamic taught. Hatha Yoga Pradipika, a text on asanas, pranayama, etc. describes asanas; the teachings of Goraksanath (1200-1400 AD) Shiva Samhita (1500 AD), describes 4 asanas in detail, lists 84 total. Hatha Yoga Pradipika (1500 AD), Gheranda Samhita (1700 AD), text on Hatha Yoga, describes 32 asanas
9. MODERN YOGA PERIOD: Vivekananda introduces Yoga at the Parliament of World’s Religion in Chicago (1893 AD). Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau studies the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita in the US. Modern Hatha Yoga of Krishnamacharya, Integral yoga of Aurobindu (1920-1950 AD). Yogananda comes to the US in the 1920s. Hatha Yoga of B.K.S Iyengar (Arrived in America 1956, then again in the 1970s onwards, derivative styles: Anusara, Forest Yoga and others)
Asthanga Yoga of Pattabhi Jois (Arrived in America in 1975 and visited many times over the next 20 years; teaching style: Asthanga Vinyasa). Teachers focusing on traditional Tantra yoga and Vedanta: Swami Muktananda, Swami Satchitananda, Swami Rama, Shrii Ravi Shankar, and more.
Following the sutra tradition, Shrii Shrii Anandamurti introduces new sutras in Ananda Sutram based on Tantra and with an evolutionary and social focus in its cosmology and philosophy.
Tantra literally means “that which liberates the mind from dullness by expansion.” Although the word has often been misinterpreted, its real spirit implies the system of life which expands the mind from crudeness to the attainment of the Supreme Stance.
Yoga means “to unify” (hence the English word “yoke”). To mix sugar and sand means to unite the two. But it is more than that. True unification is like mixing sugar and water: the two become one. Samyoga Yoga Ityaktoh Jiivatman Paramatmanah (Yoga is the unification of the unit consciousness with the Supreme Consciousness).
Therefore Tantra and Yoga essentially have the same meaning, because expansion leads to unification, and for unification there must be expansion.
“Tantra is sadhana and sadhana is Tantra.”
Shrii Shrii Anandamurti
Since the beginning of human civilization, people have aspired toward spiritual fulfillment. It is this yearning for supreme expansion that eventually led to the techniques of Tantra. They were originally systematized by Lord Shiva 7000 years ago. He also taught the system of marriage, medicine, music, dance and science. So right from the beginning the practical philosophy of Tantra was not limited only to spiritual practices, but pervaded all fields of life.
Over time, the original systematization of Tantra was distorted, and some aspects were misunderstood or lost. An attempt was made by Patainjali about 2100 years ago to reclassify the techniques - into what he called Astaunga (“eight-limbed”) Yoga. Swami Vivekananda more recently called it Raja Yoga (“the yoga of kings”), implying that the yogi never feels subjugated by anyone.
Ananda Marga sadhana, however, is Rajadhiraja Yoga (“the yoga of the king of kings”). It was first named as such by the sage Astavakra over 2000 years ago. Shrii Shrii Anandamurti gave the present-day form on the framework of Patainjali’s eight-limbed structure, but included techniques of the original system which were lost or overlooked, clarified and corrected misinterpretations, and introduced new practices which bring the whole system into relevancy for modern-day life and human psychology. All the techniques have been amalgamated into the Sixteen Points of Ananda Marga spiritual practice, for the development of the individual and society as a whole.
