I'm spellbound!!!! What a cinematic treatment! I'm 100% agree with You Solomon, competition makes things better. Look at cloth deformation. woh ! I'm so excited to see the hair simulation. Realistic animation. VFX. lighting, camera movement, vast terrain management in real time. Serious competition will be there between two Game engine giants. What a coincident! Unity just bounces back at neck of the moment when Quixel Megascan is going to be paid. Ha ha.
The hair sim let this down for me, the hair seems to be moving under it's own power, like thousands of little worms wriggling around. Other than that, it's quite impressive.
Indeed this is a needed push from their side. Although photorealism is definately not needed for most apps and games, an engine which is able to output highly realistic renders will most likely also be regarded as more capable. About 1.5 years ago I switched to Unreal just because most of my clients were asking specifically for it as their perception and teams were different after Unreal 5 landed ...
I couldn't agree more with you Solomon. The keynote and roadmap were really well put together and showed a Very good focus. It almost felt like a different company (in a good way) - although I'm still cautious, between what's promised and delivered... but I did like how they're also structuring future releases as well. They do have a tendency to show characters in these demo's though, without any 'easy to use' character tools (i.e. aimed at indie dev's like Metahuman or Character Creator) - Very promising though...

I use Unity for my projects. I cannot believe this is real-time rendering? I'm a fan but wow, the cloth and hair sims? No way.
it's mind blowing... so whatever they have added to Unity 6, must be like nitrous to a race car!! lol!!

I am so hopeful. Unity has potential, and maybe the structural changes they made, will make it easier for them to deliver this time around.
