  • In this video I take you for an inside glimpse of what goes on in the home studio while I work on producing a new song that for now I'm calling Coyote. The camera is rolling and the creative juices are flowing. Multitasking with the video aspect ads another element, so I have to allow myself to forget the about the video after each time I position the camera and press record.
Everything in this music production so far has been created with the keyboard rack setup I am playing on in the video. It includes Ableton Live, Native Instruments Komplete, Korg X50 Keyboard, Arturia MiniLab, Akai APC Mini, and a Focusrite Scarlett 6i6.
It does not require tons of state-of-the-art equipment to produce music these days. Knowing your own style as a musician and making the right equipment selections to accommodate your needs without going overboard can go a long way. It is important to have a setup that allows an efficient creative workflow.
Setting the right room ambiance for the song is important to me, and I often use lighting to accomplish this. The lights in the video are a new addition, but even before that I would sometimes use a simple $15 disco ball and some colored light bulbs.

Thanks Garrett! Yeah it does. I don't always do it the same way, it depends on the song. Those lights are pretty new to me, but they have different settings for different effects and speeds.. still some experimenting to do I suppose haha
