Morning Dale. Interesting selections. I am sure that Martin will appreciate this response. I listened to some of the Psychic Circle's 'Dracula'. It reminded me of early Cure songs. The instrumental parts that is. It had that Cure bass vibe to it. That Now Yearbook 1983 song listing took me back to the start of MTV. When they were playing music videos. I never saw any of those comps. Well done Dale. I can remember when Martin started posting videos in the VC. He has been one of my favorite channels ever since. Have a nice week~

Thanks Rob, yes the CD comps took me back, mostly good but some shockers in there too which was fun. Martin is quite unique and always shows interesting records. Enjoy your week too, Dale

You need help, Dale! I’m going to stage an intervention. That’s more than enough 80’s compilations for any man. Although the 12” mixes sound cool. 2024: the year of the 12” single. I could get on board with that.

I do need help John but not just the 80s, I am quite obsessed with CD comps across several styles unfortunately. Looking forward to seeing what 12s the boots and bins offer this year...

Hello Dale. Firstly thank you for responding. I am perfectly happy to send you something if you like I'll leave you to decide upon that I think that's perfectly fair and nice to do.
First rabbit hole reminded me of the Look Around You series on bbc2 well done on tracking the book down and itch scratched and satisfied. BTW I got the BBC records books for Xmas and really enjoying working my way through them, there were some odd releases back in the day.
Lathe cut you are into deep specialist territory.
I am with you on TOTP NOW chart music until about 1990. I bought and still have every smash hits 84-91 ish.
Just impressed with the completest attitude. Seven Years a classic in my book 🙃😂

Hi Martin - glad you are enjoying the BBC books. Yes the lathe cuts are a specialist and dangerous territory, especially for the wallet. 1990 is too far for me but I've recently been looking back at some Britpop era magazines and realising the music of the 90s was stronger than I remembered. It could be the new 80s...

I think you'd even give Richard McCook a run for his money here on 80s pop Dale.. Odd that the ' Now' series started producing CDs prior to 1983, as I think that was when the original compilation was released?.
I think the decade often gets maligned by music snobs and aficionados as a cheesy era of pop music, and that is certainly true of some of the mid- late 80s, but 80-83 period produced some great pop music.
12" singles were a real 80s phenomenon, and I bought quite a few ( most now long gone bar a handful like The House of Love).
I remember the Eurythmics ' Julia' from the 1984 soundtrack had a great 12" release.
I'vecthought several times about hunting down 12" singles again, but thats' a rabbit hole I think I may leave alone, as i'm looking to do a purge this year.
    Interesting video.

Well, now I can only think about rabbit holes. I have been known to fall down a few. Those are really cool Dracula singles. The Now Yearbook CDs look great, though it apears to be never ending! (1979 might be my favourite year for music).

Dracula singles are nice to have and the book is starting to hot-up now I'm getting a bit further into it. 1979 was a fantastic year...

Rabbit holes, so dangerous. Comp albums are dangerous for me as I want to explore more of the groups that I heard on the album. Zamrock has been very expensive rabbit hole for me

Ha ha, I thought one of your rabbit holes might be buying limited releases from small labels! I admire your persistence in buying all those Dracula lathe cuts. I guess once you started you had to get to the end.
Are you still in the Castles in Space subscription club?

Hi John, yes still sticking with the Castles in Space subscription and happy so far. There were two Warrington-Runcorn related releases at the end of the year (one of which I'm listening to now). Cheers Dale

Oh, dear. Be careful, if you see the light at the end of the tunnel, it's not just the light from the end you went in.
I really wanted to do this thread for Martin, but all of my rabbit holes are potential future videos.
...Of course considering my poor output in 2023, that's a load of bollocks.
