Michael, you put this way more elequently than I. When watching this on the news last night my statement was a succinct two worded one, the second of which was "off". The church can lecture and sermonize all they want from the pulpit, but it keep it there and out of politics. The Treaty Principles Bill is not, and never was, about erasing The Treaty. It's about defining what The Treaty means nearly 200 years after it's creation, potentially elevating it to an almost constitutional document. The US Consitution has had many amendments in recognition that the original, while important, was a document of its time and needs to keep pace and remain relevent as the country and society evolved. The same here applies: If Maori want The Treaty to remain relevent in the New Zealand of today and of the furture then they should be welcoming this Bill as an opportunity to even renegotiate terms and ensure it remains relevent. Because, if New Zealand even becomes a republic, then the Treaty (which was with the Crown, as in England) will technically become null and void.
Over five billion up to date since 1995 has been robbed from the NZ tax payer’s for Treaty pay out’s, imagine if that had been but into health and roading.

It does get rid of rights because by making the Treaty about principles it ceases to be about rights. It is fundamentally and objectively a constitutional document designed to constrain state power, it is by default a rights not principles based document. It can’t be read any other way, it may not be ideal but that’s the truth. It can hardly be said that in 1840 the chiefs were willing to convert their authority to the idea of an ambiguous set of principles. That’s not to say a Treaty principles Bill is necessarily a bad thing. In fact, the best thing for society might be to constrain the Treaty to a set of principles before things get out of hand and we wind up with sectarian violence.
The difficulty is that there is no way a Nation (any Nation) this divided could agree on a set of principles - we risk complete anarchy if we don't have a basis to begin with. Without a founding document it would be up for debate whether each individual has a right to own the home and the land they live on and they can't call the cops or the armed forces as they will be defending their own homes. Winston, on The Platform, stated there are no principles of the Treaty and hence NZF don't support the ACT bill. The problem is that the judiciary have decided to install some principles and have effectively overridden parliament. Winston says that we should get rid of the treaty principles idea but Seymour says let's define them. Both are right and either way the same outcome would be achieved. The problem is the unelected judges doing what they damn well please. So while I agree with Winston I think Seymour's idea to define the principles may be needed - it is the only logical way we can restrain illogical judges.

All about money nothing else. Cronyism rife billions taxpayer dollars disappearing no accountability
Over five billion up to date since 1995 has been robbed from the NZ tax payer’s for Treaty pay out’s, imagine if that had been but into health and roading.
Have they all taken leave of their senses? Why were they so convinced of the ‘righteousness’ of opposing any discussion of the Treaty? Surely they will have lost more than a few of their congregation as a result of this foray into far left politics??
I think the church leaders time could be better spent exposing the kiddie fiddlers etc amongst their ranks and it's about time they got an invoice for all the damage they have caused that the taxpayer has had to stump up for. If they want to start interfering in the politics of this country then they can start paying their fair share of the tax. They are just like the maori businesses that are registered as a trust then pay minimum taxes but make the most noise .

There won't be any services as each individual has to protect themselves in total chaos. I don't know about you but I don't want to see any old person on the street because they can't protect themselves from younger aggressive people. Without the Treaty we also lose Crown support...
