Wonderful information. Garnet being my birthstone, I lost love a while ago. But that has now been restored. I find myself leaning towards rose cut garnets. Thank you so much for sharing your fantastic collection to help us understand and continue our love for Garnet. Being it has so much competition when looking for a ‘red’ stone ring.❤

🥰I’m so glad you enjoyed it, Sue! You are right that garnet has a lot of competition.. even it’s own species compete with eachother!💙

I happy that you brought this up. I had the same thoughts about open back rings. I'm considering placing a first surface mirror under the stone to help reflect the light back. Any one interested in this idea, some dental mirrors are first surface mirrors with a durable coating. Silver rings can be polished to help reflect the light back out through the gem. Tks!

How is the gem in the 16th century ring set? Love your videos… stellar information!!

♥️ Thanks for watching & your great question! The garnet in the Tudor ring was set using the “rubover” method, which is basically an early bezel. To do this, the jeweller would have put the stone into the metal ‘cup’, then pushed the sides up around the edges of the stone to hold it into place.

@@sundaebaubles Ah, it is hard to see that. I couldn’t see prongs which would have left glue. And glue made no sense to me. Thanks for the quick, thorough answer.

The stone Morganite has the same problem or at least with my skin tone. I thought the pinkish color was gorgeous but when I tried a rose gold ring with a morganite it was totally washed out. So I bought some earrings and I love them and the color. Thanks for the information.

Hi Susan, thanks for watching and sharing! 😘 Morganite is gorgeous & I can see how this could be an issue with the stone. Earrings are the perfect compromise to get that 'colour payoff' ❤
