I really like that he introduces his fish handler/provider to his customers to show that he really cares about the quality of food he wants to bring to the customer's table.
Why are all his customers female? Also, see how grateful that fish supplier is - the life of a working-class immigrant is hard, I'm glad to see it is working out for him.
I think it's always been the affluent (it's Beverly Hills, and this sushi must cost lots) ladies (esp. if they're japanese, more likely to work minimally/have more free time compared to their typically male counter parts) who have enjoyed and experienced this kind of "hipster" (I don't mean that in a derogatory way) and kinda insubstantial fine dining.
He is grateful because this man opened the doors to his success as a fish supplier. Japanese culture is based on trust as are many Asian cultures, the only way to do business with someone is to be referred by a trusted party. As for the all of the people at the sushi bar being women, he probably had to set this up with people who were good with getting filmed, they could be a group of friends, who knows...
+Anthony Sparta It's not that expensive if you factor in its location and their cost of living. I spend money on food for the unique experience. Something like this is well worth my time.
+Kagarin? I did mention their singles are much cheaper, did I not? Even if you don't choose their combos, you can still have a good time without spending a whole lot.
That's why quite a few of these episodes are done later in the afternoon/evening as you tend to have more of both sexes being free to enjoy meals. Where as this episode was done around lunch service and there are groups of girls out there that enjoy lunches during the week together.
this is what i appreciate for a true master, being innovative whilst respecting his root and tradition.... not just using the words like modern or fusion and blur everything....
They bash the fishes heads in, killing them. Then they do the neuron blocker. Its in the spine and nerves so of course the body jumps and squirms. Does the description of what neuron blocker not tell you enough ?, it tricks the body/meat into thinking its not dead. Havent you seen videos of octopus legs moving when you pour soya sauce on it ? Theres even videos of beheaded and gutted fishes still moving and jumping just go youtube it.
Wow that flowers shop ladies voice is very unique, you can definitely tell she's been in America a while but there's still that slight Japanese type of undertone
I've been to this restaurant this past week and he was not the sushi chef but the host the sushi chef's name is teddy yamashita. the food was quite expensive but it was worth the experience. can't beat sushi from Hawaii.
I'm sure this novelty appeals to some people but at the end of the day I'm about the food. Aesthetics are appreciated but it's really not why I got to a restaurant. The last thing I need to add to the price of extremely fresh/imported sushi are these gimmicks. I do appreciate the quality of fish and care to the food on a taste level. My mentality is probably why Chinese food is my favorite.
Yeah this is a taste and style experience. If you are starving and looking for something to just gobble down it's probably unnecessary to go here. All foods have their moments.
remember what bob from bob's burger said about food, this could be fun but is it tasty, he didn't say that, it's just my interpretation from the episode
damn that's expensive. i dont mind paying a little more for high quality food but that's like 10x the price edit: after watching the vid in its entirety, i can kinda see why the prices are so high. seems pretty legit.
People complaint about "too much flower and decoration than a food" didn't know that Omakase Sushi dishes are not just a "food you had to eat" but also japanese art and culture on it. if you just wanna eat until full ? don't go to japanese sushi restaurant, go to mcdonald instead.
does the fog underneath the cup actually do anything or is it just for looks. Because i'm wondering if he actually somehow was able to capture smoke in the cup and place it around the fish, would it give it a smokey flavor?
I think that's mainly for presentation and entertainment purposes since the salmon has already been smoked for some time in the smoker that was shown, I believe. I could be wrong but I doubt the fish would really absorb any smoke flavor in the short time from plating to eating.
destroys the nerves leading to muscle making the muscles think it's brain is still alive. does it really work like this? if the nerves are dead how the heck can the muscles think they're needed??
Too many hipster customers. A proper client is able to enjoy the food, not unhappily wait around whilst others finally sit in their seat like educated adults. Quite shameful, it is.
Some people are turned off by the texture. Both my mother and niece didn't like sushi when they 1st tried it, but i took the time to lead them into it slowly by starting off with the most basic "California Rolls". They don't have raw fish in them and its just to allow their tongues to get familiar with the texture. I then let them try "Shrimp Tempura, followed by Eel" which are both cooked fully but the texture of the eel is very similar to that of the raw fish. Once they were familiar with the texture i led them into rolls that had salmon or tuna in them. Now they both love sushi. I would reccomend you have an experienced Sushi eating friend take you back to a restaraunt and give it another go. If you love Cooked Fish more than likely you will love and appreciate it raw. Just a suggestion.
+Alvin Cornelius. have you had it made by a proper sushi chef? i have eaten my sushi made by a trained sushi chef feo. japan its relatively inexpensive and dwlicious but then again i live in toronto.
this place is overly boogie for me. Sushi is my favorite food and I appreciate the art, but I saw more about flowers and making shit look pretty rather than his art and technique. I'd rather get on the list for Jiro

Wow I was about to comment exactly the two things you said.
VisualiseTheFun because he is pimping

This is one of my favorite all time videos from Munchies! Love his passion, his creativity and openness to stray from everyone else.
Compliments voice- responds with "i like sushi"

Adib TheKing
I am so happy this series has started again
Yaaas! I love it when munchies uploads videos of japanese cuisine.
I will have to visit his restaurant. Love everything he did in this video.
+Anthony Sparta GO's combos average around 150, and singles are much cheaper. It's fairly budget friendly.
+Anthony Sparta It's not that expensive if you factor in its location and their cost of living. I spend money on food for the unique experience. Something like this is well worth my time.
+Anthony Sparta haha cheers :]
"budget friendly" and "150" dont mix.
+Kagarin? I did mention their singles are much cheaper, did I not? Even if you don't choose their combos, you can still have a good time without spending a whole lot.
"I don't know where to start".... Well there isn't much to choose from
Anyone else notice it was mostly women there? I wonder why...
That's why quite a few of these episodes are done later in the afternoon/evening as you tend to have more of both sexes being free to enjoy meals. Where as this episode was done around lunch service and there are groups of girls out there that enjoy lunches during the week together.

This was a very relaxing and enjoyable watch. Thanks again #Munchies @Munchies for another great episode.
so talented ... really beautiful each of his dish.. i hope one day i could have a chance to stop by
This was a pretty good episode. Almost all the shots were of food, the preparation of it and people eating it. Thats what we wanna see!
this is one of the coolest channels on youtube
that neuron blocker is such a Japanese thing because that is a super torture move lol
I remember they did it on the original Iron Chef show. It did look painful...
Also Ike-Jime, a quick strike to the brain.
*****
Didn't know that dead fish would jump and squirm like that...

I love SoCal. It offers so many authentic restaurants to go to.
Seriously the Japanese Rob Schneider

he seems really likea an artist. very passionate about his work!
Never fucking watching this show while being hungry before bed ever again X(
He really is a artist. It seems that the food is just there to complement the piece.
I'm losing sleep with all these munchies videos
this place is 1 min away from my apartment!!! it used to be call GOH but they change the name to GO
4:30 Those ladies look at him like "English?" :D
I've been to this restaurant this past week and he was not the sushi chef but the host the sushi chef's name is teddy yamashita. the food was quite expensive but it was worth the experience. can't beat sushi from Hawaii.
always love this series!

Mistake: he said he came to USA in 1979, the subtitles said 1997.
it makes my mouth watering
this is lovely
This is ultra fancy. Gotta go someday...

remember what bob from bob's burger said about food, this could be fun but is it tasty, he didn't say that, it's just my interpretation from the episode

His style is kinda different from the basic Omakase... but it's worth trying I guess
1:45 this is his wallet picture :))
I really want to go there!
It's very funny how a women commented on the Chef about how he looked like the Yakuza and how it was referred to in the subtitles.
I just ate the best sushi in my town
this video makes me want to visit right now
does the fog underneath the cup actually do anything or is it just for looks.

Holy Snikeys is that expensive....dafuq
i figured i gon nd' eat that fish and its pretty gon dong good
looks so tasty!
Kaiseki focuses on the appearance as much as the food. Some people in comments should really take a second to Google the term.
Beautiful
1:45 why would you leave that?
The courses are pretty darn expensive though :(
wonderful
just seeing how much they serve by plate i know that i cant afford it
Why does everything and everyone happen in LA? how fuckn big is that city wtf..
destroys the nerves leading to muscle making the muscles think it's brain is still alive. does it really work like this? if the nerves are dead how the heck can the muscles think they're needed??
6:08 aren't you supposed to bow lower than elders? as a sign of respect
The restaurant is now permanently closed...lol
Anyone know what kind of clothing he was wearing (the blue garb with white diamonds patterned all over; in the flower shop)?
This restaurant looks awesome! I did an entire 13 episode series on Japan with Kaiseki food included if people want more check me out.
Too many hipster customers. A proper client is able to enjoy the food, not unhappily wait around whilst others finally sit in their seat like educated adults. Quite shameful, it is.
What a playa xD
very nice sugoy
1:45 where can i apply for this?
Η ΜΠΑΝΤΑ ΕΙΝΑΙ ΤΕΛΙΩΜΕΝΗ!!! ΑΥΤΟΚΤΩΝΑ
he looks like a fantastic man
I think the foods a little too fresh.
FOH
It's not easy to serve this level of dish in US. He must dedicate himself so much in this business. Good Luck!
Don't wanna sound like an emo weeboo but I should plan a whole day with sushi and watching anime sometime :D
No wonder this place closed down.
Looks really expensive .
Wow
The orange pieces what type of fish is that
those flowers on a plate are annoying
can you even get full from these meals
So this sashimi isn't sushi grade...
Am I the only one who got my eyes more on the girls than the sushi
Looks expensive for little food
Damn
Great episode, but from what it looks likes, he is using disposable chopsticks in his restaurant?!? That's a shame.
all people he knows can speak japanese wtf
pimpin' 1:45
nice...but alive is fresh not dead fish
I don't get why people enjoy raw instead of cooked fish
try and see for yourself!
partykrew666 I have, I hated it, it makes me sick. we have the technology and intelligence to cook, why settle for raw?
+Alvin Cornelius because it taste good

Stop taking pictures and just eat your food.
this place is overly boogie for me. Sushi is my favorite food and I appreciate the art, but I saw more about flowers and making shit look pretty rather than his art and technique. I'd rather get on the list for Jiro
japanese ppl are kool.
