Unfortunately the record company released Abuse me as their first single off their second album which sounded very gay (before gay was accepted there) and un relatable to their mostly young audience. Should have released Freak first instead like they did in Australia etc. They were huge in South American countries and a few European countries (Besides the obvious Australia, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa) but not in countries where and overseas act has to chart well in the U S first.
I know he wrote this when he was in a very dark place, and that he is trying to move away from that, but please don't ever forget what you've overcome, Daniel. It's made you who you are today, a stronger, wiser person. Some very powerful and beautiful music has come from some of the most tragic events in history.
Man this is my favorite song. I love how music can bring memories flooding back. It makes me feel so so... weird. But I love it. I miss the 90's so much. It's the era I felt most comfortable in. I hate the skinny jean selfie world we live in now. I love silverchair but I only relate to their older songs. When I see Daniel now and listen to his music. It's like a totally different person. I'm happy he's happy and healthy and growing but I only enjoy the sad angry depressed music.
Ya I met them in 1999 in vancouver, but now I really wish I had said more, I was so tongue tied when I was holding/shaking Daniel Johns' hand that I hardly said a word, now I wish I had thanked him for all his music & lyrics has helped me through. I wasn't as shy with Ben & Chris. but Daniel shook my hand & then didn't let go for quite a while, my knees almost gave out. lol
Tyrion Cypher Agreed and he wrote it at 18 or 19 years old! You’ll prob also love the song “Pushit” (Salival version) by Tool. If you haven’t heard it already.
I'm glad to see him happy these days... you know he's doing well if he's got videos with him and no shirt on..he's come a very long way and he not afraid to show off his body which I must say ..he's got he total package!! The face, the body, the voice ! I'm so happy for him !!
I was also Lucky enough to get to watch their soundcheck with only a handful of people, It was like our own private concert. it was one of the best days of my whole life, but I still wish I had said more.
awesome. this is better than the track. from what i've seen, this whole show is nothing but silverchair at its best. you can almost feel the pain ringing through daniels voice...
I literally recorded this video on my VHS and send it to emsicka to rip it to the digital version ♥️ thank u for keeping it alive. My favourite concert!!!!!!
That's really true. I sometimes find it hard to watch videos from the Neon Ballroom era because of how thin and sick he looked. But like you, I think it is cool that he picked himself up and got the help that he needed!
I went to their concert in Copenhagen same year. Daniel was so weak, depressed and messed up on antidepressants. His emotions were blocked. It must have been a real struggle to tour and try to act like another person at that time. He seemed so unhappy. I'm so glad that he's feeling much better nowadays. The new album says it all.
Wow. This was a gorgeous version of the song. Better than the album. Watching him... he's only half-way there; the rest of him is lost in that song. It was tragically beautiful. I'm very happy he's doing better and they're still making music, but Neon Ballroom is my favorite album for this reason.
Chills! This video is just as incredible as the first time I saw it 10 years ago. Just another reminder that Silverchair is the very best there is. Lovelovelove.
I live in Australia and have seen them heaps of times and dude this song sounds freakn killer when they play it now hey! Search this version on here: Silverchair - Emotion Sickness (Young Modern Launch)
@23mhegslvr sort of, daniel has never spoken at length about it, but he did say that the "neon" part represents the new. & the "ballroom" part represents the old. sort of a old meets new concept. kinda like the music on the album.
K they changed they evolved and his voice chanced too. I guess he couldn't have that young fresh voice forever. I'd fogotten how genius this song really is because now it doesn't sound as good live, but watching this video reminds me of the heartache this song can cause. It's just amazing.
@TheSara90 Silverchair have released a DVD from the Newcastle show but only in australia....i had the luck to become the whole show in HD from somewhere in the web such amazing.
did anyone of you ever notice that he's not singing "won't you stop my pain"but "won't you starve my brain". He does it in every live version of "emotion sickness".maybe also on the recorded one. i think i've read once that this were the orinigal lyrics.
In my opinion, the best version of emotion sickness is the one they played at sao paulo... i don't say that just because i'm brazilian... it really kicked ass... i only regret i wasn't there... =/
OK... about Silverchair... yes, their old stuff is better and being an angry kid can definitely cause one to write amazing songs. But he's happier now, Silverchair has evolved and grown up, and that's the way it goes. Everyone needs to get over it!
Hmm, if anything they sounded like every MTV back at Frogstomp. They were signed by Sony after winning a competition on the crest of the Grunge scene, because that was the popular sound then. Their stuff now is incredibly mature and reflects all that Daniel has achieved as a song wirter and as a human being. Anyone who cant see that is ignorant im afraid, and he couldnt care less about them
too bad David Helfgott wasn't available for this show. Still the best performance of this one though. When is silverchair gonna do a symphonic concert???
Don't ever delete this video ever or i will never be able to watch it ever again. Unless do you have this file on your computer and wouldn't mind sharing it so i can save it? respond plz.
@staindbenni how can i get one? i searched whole amazone/ebay for their live performances and i only found "live from faraway stables"... i am looking for something from 99era
silverchair should be bigger than muse, coldplay and foo fighters...
but they were
@@felipe8511 no they weren’t they where underrated asf witch made me mad they where so good
But haters kept on calling them a copy of nirvana :/

@@MrZZsharka yea ur right about south america (particularly in brazil), they were huge here and there's still a faithful fanbase remaining

neon ballroom rocks!!!!
From when everything is clearly dying onwards, the crowd realized they were listening to greatness!

Great rip. Thanks. Never would've survived highschool without them. I find myself liking their new album after several listens as well.
I forgot to add; his voice is haunting. Barely audible in some parts... perfection. These guys play so amazingly well together.
I'm glad to see him happy these days... you know he's doing well if he's got videos with him and no shirt on..he's come a very long way and he not afraid to show off his body which I must say ..he's got he total package!! The face, the body, the voice ! I'm so happy for him !!

It's amazing because he still uses that LP her in 2007

OH man have fun at that concert this weekend!
Had a big following in Germany.

He does it in every live version of "emotion sickness".maybe also on the recorded one.
i think i've read once that this were the orinigal lyrics.
Yes!! I know this was written 13 years ago but I watched that part multiple times and I see/hear "Starve my Brain" glad someone else has too
@@SilverRose794 13 years later and still in love with that song 🙃
I was standing in this crowd in my prime

TheSara90 Best of volume 1 :)
Here, hes singing 'Wont you starve my brain?'
Nice....:)
man, is this or melbourn concert aviable on DVD??? coz i would totally buy it!!
where exactly did you get this information?
i think with that line it makes more sense... emotion sickness. [so] wont you starve my brain. it's so daniel.
@soniaxsoniaxsonia Hes saying starve, I guarantee it.
I feel like such a douche! I'm just discovering Silverchair (thanks to RUclips!). Are they still touring?
sounds like Muse, I love it!
it's called androgyny
and it's HOT.
Its a Gibson Les Paul
Custom
This song is great, I love their older stuff, unique, they suck now, they sound just like every other radio/mtv band.
He got manorexia. Its not hot its a disease, very serious and even life threatening.
i love the neon ballroom stuff most. but i really don't like the fake strings sound of the synth...
then start listening to metal
Mr Johns does not look well on here!
Read his lips at 4:10, its 'starve my brain'.....guaranteed.
Neon ballroom was thier most mature album, diorama was cool too. what's up with Young Modern?? It's flat out whimisical! And annoying whimisical!
he only wears that suit outfit to hide his anorexic appearance
Mr Johns does not look well on here!
