So cool. What is the value of Guatemalan jadeite compared to Burmese jadeite? Is it just as valued in the desired colors? What colors are most desirable in Guatemalan Jade? Thanks for the awesome video and history.
@@LeeL-xi4or Great question! Jade is valued based on it’s quality factors (translucency, color, texture and cut) and provenance, irrespective of origin.
I Love what Mary Lou has done. I have collected a little prehistoric jade from around the world, mostly axes. I didnt realise many of them may have been used as money. Thanks for that info.
Thank you again for an informative and very interesting video. Even though I am not rich by a long shot, I have been collecting jade for decades. I have loved it all my life-it is my favorite gemstone of all time. I recently acquired a small cushion cut Guatemalan jadeite green ring. I love the mottled darker green & the delicate size, as I like collecting different shades of green jadeite.
Thank you for this wonderful conversation...I loved it...and even had to pause the video to buy myself a copy of that book you recommended...'Stone of Kings'...💗💗💗
@@JewelsoftheTrade I had no idea about Guatemalan Jade. I had gone to Dumbarton Oaks several decades ago, but only the gardens. I’d like to go back now and see the museum. I’ll be getting the book and will look at the attached links. There is so much to learn and it’s really nice that your ethical and share your knowledge.
Hi Lillian! You’ll need to have those appraised by a professional to know for sure, but you might take a look at the Jade Maya website first and see what similar pieces are going for. Another good resource to look at would be Jade Nature to get an idea of correlation between statue quality (color, translucency, carving and condition) and price.
I think it’s redIculous that people have been so gas lighted about what quality jade is, and that it “only comes from from Burma”… hooey!!! Having worked with both and polished etc, there’s no contest for me between the beauty and aesthetic of Guatemalan jade and pretty much any other.
The Spanish inquisition had no power to judge or torture the indigenous people, as they were considered new Christians. Terrible knowledge of how the Spanish imperial system worked in these lands. The inquisition was stablished in the viceroyalty of Nueva España in 1569, many decades after the conquest.
They used cacao for casual exchanges but just like all across the world even in today’s world yeah people trade, and its better when they dont use artificial value’s because theres less risk of getting screwed over, tf u on abt

Thank you for watching my interview with Mary Lou Ridinger! What do you think of Guatemalan Jade?
I bought some jade from Guatemala and had no idea about the concept of jade and jadeite. I have no idea what I have now

@@JewelsoftheTrade what country has the best Jadeite Jade? and why?
@@Tecun-p7g In Europe? I don’t think there’s high quality jadeite jade coming out of Europe at all. The best jadeite jade comes from Myanmar/Burma.
