Respect noted. What do you gain from one? I'd imagine it's the same comradarie one would get from the military.
It's actually not like the military or any legit thing. It's just basically an excuse to join a gang, that's all they are. Some of them could even be considered cults.
What perks are there? There doesn't seem to be many perks, I mean in theory if some random person is going to bully you and beat you up then the fraternity may help you (though you could just use the police instead).
Also I would imagine that a fraternity has parties and it's an excuses to be part of these parties, I mean if you aren't part of a fraternity then maybe they wouldn't want you at their party.
But that's about it, there aren't many legit benefits of joining one. Just think of it as a club/gang.
There are disadvantages to joining some also, some have something called hazing where they will do brutal things to the new people that join, like molest them or beat them up etc.
Personally I would never join a fraternity since they seem to be full of cowards and immoral people who have no individuality or morals.
You are meant to be at university to study and succeed in your degree and get a career, not have some cult type group of delinquents sodomizing you and making you do errands for them etc.
