Thanks for the great video! So nice to see the actual trail ahead of time. We are heading out on Thursday. Gonna try to bring the dogs. We will see how that creek crossing is when we get there. May need a Plan B as well. Really well shot and great energy!
Glad you made this video because it is too hard for us to do. We didn't have to fight it, only getting half way up, now we know. We are very familiar with the area, and you did a superior job of showing the beginning of the hike. Most don't show the neat details at the start.
Good to see others tackle the South Fork trail, that rock pile is a doozy of a climb with some great views. I remember their being some logs you could cross over the river, I guess it washed away long ago. Glad you guys had a great time. 5th Lake on the North Fork is my favorite but honestly, I wouldn't mind trying the South fork again & camping at Finger Lake. Definitely get a fishing license, very few travel to Brainard & Finger, so it's good fishing up there!
When I was researching this trail I had heard there was a log but got washed off :/ I honestly wish it was still there, crossing that cold river part was tough lol hopefully someday they make a small crossing, if so I would do it again 🙌 next time I for sure have to fish there 🙏 thank you again for watching 🙏
@keenanmoi did you go this year? I have permits next weekend and wondering about the conditions of the creek crossing. Can't find much intel aside from a few reviews that said it's impassable earlier this month.
@@kylematthewstein yes, I was up there 07/05 -07/07. Crossing the south fork creek is impossible, the flow is at a record level right now. There is also no way to bushwhack off trail if you cross at Glacier lodge, there is still snow on the other side of the creek with many hazardous snow bridges. It’s pretty much asking for it if you try to attempt south fork rn. I abandoned my backpacking plans and instead did a day hike of North Fork, which by now is totally clear up until second lake. A bummer for sure, but that creek is absolutely raging right now!
I really enjoyed watching this video. Very well put together. I just uploaded my first backpacking youtube video and I am hoping to make videos as good as this one. Thank you for posting
Saved the best for last, I was wondering when you’d jump in the lake, thought you’d chickened out 😂 but for real really enjoy your videos. I don’t know how you can hike and film and talk, I can barely hike and keep breathing 😅 ps I always get hungry after watching your videos, food is one of the best parts of camping ☺️
I honestly didn’t want to jump lol but In the end I’m was like, I’m here already why not 😅 it was freezing cold lol. Really appreciate the support and glad you like the channel 🙌 it’s all practice, I got used to the whole vlog while hiking 😆 food is the definitely my favorite part too 😁🙌
They tend to release permits Everyday at around 7AM. I would also check out little lakes trail and treasure lakes some of my favorite 🙌 thanks for watching 🙏
The way this years weather has been expect snow above 9,000 Ft elevation. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s in the mid 20’s. Safe travels 🙏 thank you for watching and supporting 🙏
How do you find these "unmarked" trails? Caltropo/Alltrails? Also, when passing that stream, you said up stream - but it looked like a path.. was that just luck that it was like that? Lastly, any spots for 3 or 4 tents, or are there just 1-off spots?
I used AllTrails to help guide me through the unmarked trails with GPS. Make to you download all maps ahead of time. Yeah the water level was pretty low that time of year, we got lucky. For a 3-4 person tents you might have set up a little further back, but I did see some open areas.
Thanks for watching 🙏 if you want to camp there you will need a permit. All the info is posted on my blog here is the link www.questrunnerchannel.com/post/south-fork-trail-big-pine-ca
As a vegan I always wanted to to try the prepackaged food but was scared now that a non vegan said it was good I’m definitely going to have to get it! I slept by the 3rd lake and tried to get to glacier point but started raining/ice thunder/lightning and had to go back to the camp site! But we ended up getting in the lake it felt so nice 🥰
Honestly the Vegan dry food was pretty good 🙌 I love vegan food too even though I’m not full vegan but soon 🙏 check it out and let me know what you think. The North Fork trail has to be one of my favorite trails , it never gets old. This time though I wanted to check out the South Fork Trail and let me tell you beautiful lakes and the best part almost no people, if you want more alone time South Fork trail is the one. And of dang 😲 what month were you up there?
@@ChrisKay88 once I was at brainard lake I used the all trails map for (finger lake to middle palisade) to help guide me to finger lakes. Hope this helps and thanks for watching 🙏
May I recommend little brother that you put your food in a cozy ?After you hydrated, keep it warm till U eat always keep your gear together (like the bug juice) for the next trip just check your inventory so you can replenish it before the trip and yes always bring some chanklas to change for river crossings & camp 😅 your learning rookie but I'm glad your enjoying life little brother the Creator is good 👍
Oh yeah little brother, you should start yourself a tradition "go jump in a lake" where evere you go "carnal" its like the Creators way of "Baptismo" 😊

What sleeping pad do you use? You mentioned it is the most comfortable thing you own
It’s the Exped ultra 5R sleeping pad 🙌 honestly the best sleeping pad own 🙏

Also do you need a permit for camping at this location ?
