I think there are two guitars on the recording (both played by Al Casey) and trying to play the lick on one guitar you'll never get it exactly right. On the intro I can clearly hear one guitar slightly right and the other slightly left. The one slightly right (using note names as if we were in C, not E) seems to be playing C-E-G, G-E-G, (starting on the 5th string) the rhythm being eighth-eighth-quarter, eighth-eighth-quarter, (or quaver-quaver-crotchet, 😉), while the one slightly left is handling the upper notes of the lick, the C-E-C-B-B stuff. If the G sounding on the 2nd beat (being played on the guitar slightly right) were being played on the same guitar as the one playing the first B, that you've got on beat 2+ on the 3rd string, then the G (also on the 3rd string) would be cut off, and it isnt. Just my 2 cents. Anyway, it's a great record, and a great lick. (There's also supposed to be a banjo in there somewhere, just to confuse matters further. Haha.)
I need to stop and make a point to thank you for this. I feel like we've been though a lot these past one and half days. It took most of the day to get that C7 to C/AM(?) transition sounding unshit but I got it.
Thank you for the sheet. I will try to play this, as it is one of my favorite songs. You seem to have a lot of fun when you explained how to play this song, Thanks.
I’m so glad you are calling out the strings by number instead of by letter because it’s so easier to remember my number than having to think about the letter of the string. Most instructors on RUclips call out the strings by letter instead of number, which is hard to balance when you’re trying to learn this song. I’ve been playing for years and I still sometimes cannot remember the letter of the string, so kudos for calling out the strings by number👍
Thanks so much for posting this. I have been trying to play this gorgeous song for the last 43 years and your brilliant lesson is getting me close. Just a couple of things. I have been trying for the last 43 years to play 2 strings with 1 finger (apart from 1st finger) and found it impossible due to lack of flexibility in those joints, they don't bend back enough, so two fingers it has to be and yeh it can be OK. Secondly, why did you stop near the end, I wasn't getting bored, the opposite, I was wanting to do the whole song in one hit. Still got enough though and thanks again.
i forgot about this site i have so many due to memory by the by have you heard of my uncle eddie galer im just a little proud thats all i know hes done a few shows😁🥊🎯🎸🎸
Rob, on the 2nd bar where you say 4th finger off - do you actually hit the string before then lifting off the finger gently, or is it more of a pull off? I am not getting the same sound but I think it’s more due to my soft skinned pinky that isn’t producing the right effect.
Wow, Rob is your name right? I really love the way you teach to play this beautiful song. Moreover, give us the sheets, is a proof that you are a great person, thanks for that; sincerely Arturo Torres
Great tuto.. To me the nylon string classical guitar you are playing with is closer to the recording then the acoustic folk one we see on many tutos.. It's also much easier for the nails when finger picking..
I think they’re fluctuates. I could smell something. Anyhow, great job I hope you’ll explain it slowly and I’d like to get a copy of the court chart. Is it for sale and can I download it where thank you.
Does anyone have tips for someone with long fingers on the bit at 6:45? I'm finding it impossible to just bar the two strings alone with my middle finger haha
Let me know what you think of my cover. It's sacrilegious really as I'm not much of a finger style expert so I just worked it out as best I could by ear, but have also bastardised the song with a mixture of programmed drums, auto-tuned vocals and some slide guitar for some reason. You'll probably (quite rightly) hate it. x
So I checked it out. At first I thought I was going to hate it but honestly I dig it. It's completely different than any other version I've heard of the song. Great job and original. Much love from Indiana ❤
Bit torn on this. You’re the best teacher on RUclips in my eyes and incredibly open with your audience and such a great personality to match the teaching method. But cutting the lesson in half is a bit confusing. You know the algorithm more than me I suppose so I’ll trust your judgment, just would have preferred the whole tutorial myself but beggars can’t be choosers
Your the first teacher on the internet I've heard who actually plays it correctly. Thanks for this Lesson Rob
Thanks for the lesson Rob!Very well played and explained. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us all!Greetings from Canada!
You hold a lot of honest charm and personality and I can tell you’re a good teacher and guitarist 👌

I play it with a buddy of mine and he's on the banjo. It's great

Excellent! The great Harry Nilsson deserves this thoughtful treatment.
Hi
I'm new to the channel.
Love the video.
You're a great teacher.
Do you have the 2nd part?
I’ll do it if I get more views on part one. I’ve put the paperwork up though. 👍🏻
Man, I hope you explain it slower than you play it. Sounds great.

Yeah, a lot of those old records used nylon string guitars. ✌️
You are a great guy for teaching these guitar lessons 👍
i would have loved to have you as a teacher !
You have! Check out the other vids, lots of cool stuff. 👍🏻
Brilliant!

It’s all there; the bit I missed out is really easy to follow. If you get stuck you can message me and I’ll help you. ✌️
Are you Travis picking?
How do I get a chord chart
?
Click the blue link in the description box under the video. 👍🏻
@fennahrob6934 yes tried that nothing happens.
It's not "Flatulence", it's "Fretulance"!!!
There's no transcription that comes through for this tune. Don t know what your talkin about. Everything I click on it nothing.
Over 3 minutes of waffle b4 you get to the lesson
The charts I’ve written out need to be explained or you won’t know how to use them. Patience my friend, patience.
Gr8 video Rob.. 💯💯🎶🎶
