Yes, as a visitor we see "Sabai" and Sabaidee" all over the place -- on signs, in storefront windows, etc. -- so we mistakenly assume it's a common greeting or salutation... And, as such, "Good Health" would be just that. ...but the QUESTION: "Sabaidee Mai (?)" ...is another thing. Think of it this way: Wouldn't it be a bit off-putting for (either) a complete stranger OR someone you see EVERY day to suddenly and randomly walk up and ask you about your HEALTH? ...er, um, gee, why do you ASK? Conversely, if it came from an old acquaintance you haven't seen for years -- OR -- someone who knows you just got out of the hospital or are recovering from some recent illness... ...well, yeah, that would be different. Context. Simply put, it's a question -- and kind of a PERSONAL one, at that -- not something just said in passing. Similarly I've heard it observed by people having recently come to the U.S. and are learning English as a second language... ...that westerners often do the same sort of thing in "slang" English, when acknowledging someone in passing with: "Hey, how ya' doin' ?" ...but then don't stop to hear a reply.

If I understand correctly, you mean that it is incorrect to ask สบายดีไหม as a greeting like they do in America? But is it correct to use that phrase to genuinely ask someone how they're doing? :)
@Shrlby With the influx of this huge amount of foreigners onto Thailand, the Thai language is influenced and polluted by other Languages. Foreigners who have learnt basic Thai will tent to translate from their native language into Thai like How are you? good bye, good luck. I heard these translated into Thai phrases spoken from true bred Thaid to one another. Maybe they want to show off that they know Caucasian language or sleep with Caucasian people. That makes them a class higher perhaps
