My girlfriend while she was in college actually wrote a thesis about this. Cocomelon’s use of bright colors, constant cuts in order to capture the tiny attention spans of children, it’s not only just brain rot. It’s total psychological manipulation of children. You could argue all kids shows use the same tactics, but there was a soul, and passion behind those older shows such as spongebob, or ed edd and eddy. And you could also argue that there were genuine life lessons to be had. Nowadays it’s about following a formula. TV and the internet nowadays is a lot like chemistry in the food industry. It’s not about making good food that’s best for the consumer, it’s about making the cheapest slop possible that makes people want to eat more of it by altering their brain chemistry. Totally dystopian.
Man even phineas and ferb made being formulaic creative and funny, Coco melon is a completely mindless formula with no meaning behind it. The processed food comparison is quite apt here imo
maybe that's why parents should pay a bit more attention to their kids and not just have them watch this and only this. maybe have them watch other shows that have actual meaning or maybe read them a book since any show uses some of these tactics. this is not brainrot. just bad parenting.
@thefreshestmango1106 I work at walmart too, we have the display for skibidi toilet and not a single piece of the merchandise has sold. It's a blessing
I was raised on PBSkids thanks GOOOOOOOD. Wild Krats was where it was at! I was also forced outside or made to read books too… I hated it then but I appreciate it looking back.
@@MrBruh-kb7fbman I don't know, probably Arthur lol. I've got 2 year old twin boys and they get TV for only 30 minutes a day and we have them watch old episodes of sesame street or blues clues or the like. I refuse to allow them to watch modern stuff unless I view it first.
You make a good point at the end. Tom and Jerry, Wile E. Coyote, these cartoons were fun to watch, but they were also thought-provoking. Nothing overly philosophical, but it provides scenarios that genuinely have you wondering what will happen next.
@@90sNath I didn't believe that at first until I watched an old spongebob episode and a new one side by side. I can now understand why everyone says the old episodes are better
@rivaraptor4277 the newer ones in the range if late season 9 to early season 12 are usually good. But 10-15 years ago we were in seasons 6-9. I only remember like 2 or 3 good episodes from that era. It was called the dark ages for a good reason
How is this not classified as neglect? Seriously at restaurants in public with this and Mrs. Mazie. All this is is just profit above people and people's health and well being. After a while you start to look weird if you're by yourself and not staring at your phone these days. Dystopia is the perfect word to describe it.
My kids are gonna grow up with care bears (classic), Blues Clues, classic Sponge Bob. Then Ben Ten, and some of the other early 2000s cartoon network shows, ya know when they were still good
That article about the company behind Cocomelon working with the third-party to improve the cartoon sounds dystopian. Reading it made me imagine those movies where lab researchers run science experiments on a child.
Man I'm 22 & remember watching Barney, Bob the Builder, Thomas & Friends & Arthur as a toddler/little kid on PBS Kids & Sprout. All before migrating to Spongebob, iCarly, Avatar the Last Airbender, Big Time Rush, Victorious, etc. on NIckelodeon when I was going on 9-10 years old (ofc now we know the thing we know abt the Schneider shows). Point is, I felt like kids could genuinely learn life lessons from those shows I enjoyed when I was little. Learning how to share with others and be kind from Barney for example or Not being greedy & working as a team in Thomas & Friends. These kids don't have that now! It's all gone!
Me and a lot of parents I know IRL are keeping our kids away from YTube and social media period. Cocomelon’s 2010s era was enough of a warning to me that this was nothing but a tool to make kids dumber.
The educational Shows I grew Up Watching are Cyberchase, Clifford the big red dog, Between The lions, Dragon Tales, Bill Nye the Science Guy, Amazing Animals, Blues Clues, Sesame Street, Mr Rogers Neighborhood, Arthur, Franklin, Little Bear, The Berenstain Bears, Zaboomafoo Bear in the Big Blue House, Stanley and the Magic School Bus. These Shows Actually Taught lessons to kids, I'm glad Cocomelon didn't exist when I was a kid. I also didn't have a Smartphone till I was in High School. Be parents to your kids and spend time with them! As far as I know, My Maternal Aunt and Cousin are keeping my Cousins daughter away from RUclips and Social Media Period.
Let's not pretend we as adults are immune to this sort of hypnotic content. Tiktok and YT Shorts have the same kind of overstimulating addicting rot that fries your brain. Bottom line, just put the screens down for a while each day. Enjoy the blue skies and fresh air while we still have it.
Children's programs used to involve tons and tons of research, focus groups, and they were under heavy scrutiny from the networks and from parents. So much work and so many studies went into making sure they were healthy for children. RUclips is an absolute free-for-all where anything goes. All I can say is that my future child will not be watching RUclips but instead will be watching the television children's content of the past. The RUclips “Kids” channels are so disturbing to me. 95% of the videos on YT Kids are covert advertising, but there are some seriously nefarious videos out there, especially the AI-algorithm-created videos. Just mish-mashing a bunch of popular characters into popular scenarios with no human behind the creation at all. Parents these days have the impression that it’s alright to just give their kids a tablet or a phone to watch movies or interactive videos just so they can get rid of the kid for a while and have some time alone, because let’s be honest, when kids watch RUclips they are silent and they do not care about anything else, at least that’s what I have encountered.
I've been thinking lately that all this technology that was created for the sake of convenience and having everything you need at your fingertips was a mistake. We're being constantly loaded with stimulation, and it's also made us way too sedentary. Back in the day everybody had to WAIT to consume stuff, like having cartoons only on Saturdays, and maybe that wasn't such a bad thing.
In short older kid shows were more calm and teaching.. Now parents are so self made miserable that they make their kids miserable then they put something like that on and it just puts them into La La Land..
Technology, yes. But at the end of the day, it really comes down to laziness, greed, and money. People can look up this stuff and research it to make a children's show that's actually good. But instead, they don't even use the technology given to them and just pull a bunch of bs out of their holes and call it a show. Right now, Peppa Pig, Bluey, and Bubble Guppies are the only good children's shows to date. Even Blaze and the monster machines was educational. Paw patrol was good in the beginning, but they just fell off.
I concur. Lets look at Cartoons I had. Teen Titans. Ed Edd and Eddy. Ben 10 Trilogy. Batman; Animated Series, Beyond, Brave and The Bold, Justice League and the rest. Codename Kids Next Door. Courage The Cowardly Dog. And even Samurai Jack. All these have something in common. Every episode someone learned something. They were given or gave others life lessons you can probably cite back even now. We just dont have that now
I'm now EXTREMELY glad then my parents stopped me from excessive screen time when I was little I remember that I could have 1 hour then I had to go outside and play
I worked in a daycare for a couple years then moved up to preschool (4.5-6 age range) and the “entertainment” for them now is ridiculous to the point our director banned cocomelon from the building 😂
Something I feel that wasn’t addressed enough in the video is the educational part, like cocomelon isn’t very educational and that there’s plenty of alternatives that actually help develop young minds.
@exciteablevideos Yeah, but what I'm saying is that they were trying to get us to get off the electronics and go outside. If we as kids actually listened, then maybe parents wouldn't be so lazy and instead, tell their kids to go out and play themselves.
I mean, I used to run into the room when Family Guy was on. I loved the show and would always be there when it came on. I grew out of it and I understand delayed gratification
What happened to Super Why? Word Girl? Cyberchase? The Little Einsteins? Martha Speaks? Dora the Explorer? I think what we see here is an extension of our decline in education, because the cartoons that I remember, kids were actually learning things. I agree parenting plays a big part in this, but we also need to go back to having educational cartoons for kids to watch.
I’m 16 rn I got a phone at 12 and I payed a Wii when I was 8-10 but it was like once a week and I would play outside I didn’t start gaming until I was 11-12
I know we think back at our childhood and think "I can't beleive we enjoyed that" but then we look to what kids have now, and realize just how well we had it. The kid cartoons we grew up on were so diverse and educational. Dora tought Spanish, Sam & Mas tought Manners, Caillou tought life lessons, *I mean dare i even mention the BEST one of all, Brain Pop?*
I never really like Dora and Diego. But anything else like Backyardigans, Kipper, Blues Clues, Zoboomafoo, etc. Those were the good days, and they do give educational advice
@@ThataGhost66 I kinda liked Dora and Diego, but i grew up on Sam & Max, Shaun the sheep, and other early 2000 kid shows. Still, those were all shows that all ages could enjoy, just like Bluey, now we can't stand things like Cocomelon.
People could just have more than 1 kid, like 2 or 3. Then they could teach them how to play properly, and then give them toys they will enjoy, and have them play together. Me and my little brother had opposite interests when we were growing up, but we made it work. We combined our interests when we were playing. We would often take the cushions from the couch and make castles with them, and then lay siege onto the castles with our plushies. It was so much fun, and big part of me wishes I could relive those times.
Same here, instead of giving kids phones or tablets, just give them handheld gaming systems like the DS, a Switch or even a PlayStation Portable. Kids really don't need phones at 7 because the only time they aren't around you is at school, at a family member's house or at a friend's house so if they *need* to call you they can just ask a trusted adult like a teacher or a family member. No excuses
@@RicochetMayhemTrue. My first 2 cell phones weren't even smart phones. I had a flip phone then a slider phone at 10 and 11 respectively. I only ever used them for calling and texting friends and family and sometimes taking pictures.
Growing up, my favorite show was Curious George, which had taught me about problem solving and resourcefulness. To this day, I still apply those abilities when I’m tinkering in my basement, playing outside, or in a videogame to some extents.
Holding a child’s attention without imparting any knowledge seems like about the worst thing you can do, they have to learn how complex things like communication work, thinking itself is a learned skill and you’re making that as difficult as possible if you do this. Not even getting into the time or addiction issue.
I have 18 month old twin nieces and sometimes when having tv time with things like ms rachel and classic Sesame Street and blues clues there will be a cocomelon knockoff video slip in and they both angrily disengage with the tv and go play with toys in the other room, it’s kind of hilarious. Based children.
Dudes. Let your kids watch 'Batman The Animated Series'! That's a real show that challenges kids intelligence! Or 'Class Of 3000' to teach kids to appreciate music. Heck if you want a great show for toddlers, 'Arthur'.
I remember the other day i was watching Bluey on RUclips with my kid, i was cleaning up the living room and i heard it start autoplaying Cocomelon. My kid (2 mind you) started making upset noises, came and grabbed my hand and led me to the laptop to change it for him Love my kid ❤
Bluey from what I hear is actually one of the much better online animated series for kids - I guess your kid instantly detected the brain rot on sight! 😂
@@TheAntiLukeFoundation Yeah, I had to look up cocomelon after watching this video. It is indeed purely nursery rhymes with animation - it felt awfully hollow for something to have kids binging on for hours straight. I mean nearly all of those cocomelon videos I saw available are multiple hours long, it is sheer insanity that this stuff is tolerated. Like i get 5-10 min videos, but releasing multiple hour long videos of this type of content with kids being the target audience - is outright malicious.
@@Chris47368 Kids should not have tablets or iPads in their bedrooms, or have unrestricted access to devices in general. These days kids are using their iPad before bed instead of reading books, and they wonder why their child doesn’t sleep enough.
@homeguestunton I agree - i guess i was mainly aiming my other reply at the kids with the parents who actually give their kids unrestricted access to the internet, allowing them to binge for hours straight.
I remember before I saw the Mr. Rogers movie that came out years ago now, I watched the documentary on Amazon about how the show Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood came to be. That speech he gives to protect his funding to the show says everything of why quality entertainment matters for kids. What I took from it (and I encourage you look up or find the footage of him giving his speech to keep the network going) is that if you feed kids nothing but sloop to watch, thats all they will ever consume
I just turned 19 today, my parents used to make me read books everyday, all day. No playing , nothing but bathroom breaks, and I'd be whooped if I couldn't read the book to them at the end of the day. So... your brain might be fried, but you could have gotten worse. That's how I developed a hate for reading (mainly because it was the same old books that I've read thousands of times). I can't remember what the age range was but when they stopped making me do that, I don't even like to read most books now.
iPads weren't even a thing 18 years ago, so you're not the type of person he was talking about. He talks about the kids who literally get shoved an iPad under their nose from day 1. Even as an embryo almost. I'm curious how that generation is gonna turn out (spoiler; it won't be good).
Nobody puts actual work or passion into children's shows anymore. I remember back in the day when we had lots of amazing shows. I never cared much for Word Girl or Martha Speaks, but my brother loved those. I liked Curious George, Aurther, and Sid The Science Kid. I loved the Backyardagains, Ni Hao Kai-Lan, Little Bear, Little Bill, Max and Ruby, Blue's Clues, Astroblast, Caillou (I actually enjoyed the show in most cases), Olivia, Teen Titans (The OG Teen Titans on the old Boomerang. Not that sorry excuse Teen Titans Go), Lily's Drift Wood Bay, Super Wing, Handy Manny, The Upside Down Show - American children had an arsenal of amazing shows back then. It's just that now children content creators have gotten lazy and so... This is what the younger generation has to endure unless parents introduce them to actual tv programs that make sense.
I agree. It is creating shorter attention spans, and when these kids don't have their tablets or cocomelon, etc they essential have "withdrawal symptoms" similar to a drug addict. That is why they throw tantrums and get so agitated. (Speaking of which, remember when youtube removed the cocomelon diss track?) Mind you, While I played videogames, watched youtube, and watched TV growing up. I still had to play outside, make sure my homework was done etc. I also don't think modern kids shows are as educational anymore. Now yes I grew up with PBS kids, but I also watched other cartoons that weren't "educational" in the traditional sense, but still taught life lessons. Like yes, kids shows have to be colorful and grab kids attention, but the constant fast pacing didn't help. Now, when I was little we had some slower paced kids shows like 'Little bear', 'Clifford The Big Red Dog', 'Mister Roger's Neighborhood', 'Bear In The Big Blue House', 'Sesame Street', 'Blues Clues' etc I also think it is about balance. They can watch a little but it can't be constant.
Australia just recently banned anyone under the age of 16 from accessing the internet as a result of issues like this. Of course, it's not a fix-all solution but a good first step in limiting internet access and improving kids' mental being and attention span. Now if only the US followed suit
@zenniththefolf4888 age verification and fines for social media platforms that do not go along with the rules of the bill. And, actually coming back to this comment, it ain't gonna work
HA HA HA, no. It's a trick to get the ignorant to accept a digital I.D for everyone, something else that tracks and oppresses us all. Anything that is presented as "save the children" rightfully deserves close scrutiny and thought as it's always been an insidious evil. The parents play that role, never the government.
@@RicochetMayhem Yeah I mean even when I was 13 I would've found some way around it. And considering you said "Internet" I would've been cooked too. But I looked into it and I saw that they're just banning "social media". Which tbh I didn't really take much part in until I was 18. Not because I couldn't, but because I didn't care.
Kids need bedtime stories, they shouldn’t have the iPad in their room. Kids shouldn’t have iPads at the dinner table. KEEP THEM IN A COMMON AREA WHERE YOU CAN MONITOR THEM, and limit their screen time. Letting a 5-7 year old use an iPad before bed will cause them to stay up all night. The reason why so many little kids are sleep-deprived these days is because they have their iPad in bed. iPads do not belong in your child’s bedroom. iPads belong in common areas of your home. Kids shouldn’t be watching Cocomelon all night, nor should they have no screen time restrictions. Kids shouldn’t spend any more than ONE HOUR on an iPad. There’s no good reason for a little kids to have an iPad in their room. If they really need an alarm clock, give them a real one. Read them bedtime stories, don’t give them the iPad at bedtime. This is COMMON SENSE, but many parents don’t enforce this rule. Kids of that age don’t usually need an alarm, their parents usually wake them up, and the child’s alarm clock shouldn’t be an iPad. Some kids will wake up in the middle of the night to get on their iPad. This is no joke, it’s a problem. iPads are making kids sleep-deprived. The reason why Gen alpha kids can’t read is because their parents shove an iPad in their face.
One thing I should mentioned how would this effect a child with Down syndrome or is autistic. It could more than likely make certain behaviors worse or cause new problematic behaviors. This scares me as a young adult who’s autistic
That's why I'm so glad I grew up with PBS Kids that taught me numbers, language, social skills etc. and not whatever Cocomelon is. I worked in a Daycare and honestly, before Cocomelon, it used to be called ABC TV or something and was actually educational but whoever took over had another idea in mind... Just sad.
I can bring up a few shows from my childhood for you. Jimmy Neutron, Rugrats, Hey Arnold, Fairly OddParents, Danny Phantom, Avatar The Last Airbender, Kim Possible, Phineas and Ferb, Billy and Mandy, Foster’s Home, Chowder, I could keep going but the list will get way too long.
Every time i babysit my Brother i changed his content from cocomelon to actual cartoons like adventure time i Din't know i was saving his brain. Sorry for the bad english it is not my native language and still cocomelon is invading other contrys.
I have some family friends who have a 3 year old iPad kid. This no joke, it's like cocomelon literally hypnotizes him. That's why I'm telling my friends with newborns to not give their kids ipads.
Y'all remember Nickelodeon's Worldwide Day of Play?? I remember going outside during that event and actually being active outside with other kids in my neighborhood. Parents (honestly schools too) should heavily encourage partaking in these types of events. And these events should come around way more than once a year.
Idk why most parents nowadays are like overgrown teenagers. They don't behave like parents, and they don't parent like their parents. It's like they're babysitting their siblings.
Children’s shows then: - If serial can have a very interesting storyline and cool plot elements, if episodic it can still be pretty funny and appealing to watch even if it has no continuous story and instead relies on episodic adventures. -Unique and appealing art style. -Clever humor that both adults and children can laugh at. -Taught genuinely valuable life lessons to children. -Good character development and unique personalities. -Extra points for that one show that didn’t talk down to the audience while still being kid friendly. Children’s shows now - Every episode of the show is a garbage pile of haha goofy mischief. -Uncanny oversaturated induced nightmare fuel art style that’s so bright that it hurts your eyes. -Literal disgusting toilet humor that adults would hate but unfortunately kids will eat anything even if it’s slop. -Very mediocre message that’s very cliche or overused. -All characters have no character development and one dimensional personalities. -Everything needs to be sugarcoated and dumbed down because “ThE KiDDiES WoULDn’t UNDerStAND” (Not saying all shows are like this now but a majority of them are just pure slop and even though old shows weren’t perfect and had their moments where they dumbed down something they are none the less still better in many ways for children’s learning skills.)
The impact this is going to have on kids imaginations and thus creativity is going to be insane. When your brain is so constantly flooded by simulation you don't have a chance to wonder and imagine, a chance to form your own thoughts and opinions.
Just today I took a look inside the new Cocomelon Playdate at the Mall of America. My deepest condolences go out to all the parents who bring their kids to that place.
Not related to cocomelon and kids. I work in retail IT. Occasionally, I get customers tell me that they know about certain products from Tiktok. I die inside whenever I hear that.
I was lucky enough to grow up with quality shows like Wishbone, Eureka's Castle, The Muppets, Shelley Duvall's Faerie Tale Theatre, Shelley Duvall's Tall Tales & Legends, Shelley Duvall's Bedtime Stories, Jim Henson's The StoryTeller, Jim Henson's The StoryTeller: Greek Myths, Adventures In Wonderland, Reading Rainbow, Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, Fraggle Rock and many more quality shows that actually taught you something.
Parents, if you would like to give your kids good shows that aren't harming their mental development like CoComelon, please give them something like Sesame Street, Mister Roger's Neighborhood, Thomas and Friends, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, Animaniacs, Pinky & the Brain, Dexter's Laboratory, Powerpuff Girls (1998), Scooby-Doo, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Ed Edd n Eddy, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Billy and Mandy, Kids Next Door, Samurai Jack, Teen Titans (2003), Ben 10 (2005), Camp Lazlo, Chowder, Flapjack, Adventure Time, Regular Show, Steven Universe, We Bare Bears, Gumball, Ninjago, Over the Garden Wall, 6teen, Total Drama, Detentionaire, Grojband, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Doug, Ren and Stimpy, Blue's Clues, Dora the Explorer, Ni Hao Kai-Lan, Wow! If I'm ever a parent, I wouldn't just throw my kid an ipad or put on Cocomelon and call it a day. I'd actually be involved in my kids life. I'm not gonna be lazy
12:41 saw some clips of SpongeBob & clips of Tom & Jerry on FB over the last month. Rewatching some of them I realized there was something about those cartoons that’ll always be great!!
Seems like a bigger issue with bad parenting than just the internet. Stuff like obese children have been rising as well. It's fine to let your kid eat some sweet snacks or let them use their iPad every now and then, but it needs to be monitored so kids aren't developing early addiction
That's the thing though. Yes it's bad parenting at its very core but the electronic babysitters bad parents are supplying their kids with are worse than the ones of generations past. When I was a kid the electronic babysitter was Blues Clues. Which actually provided some kind of value to the kid other than just as an attention grabber. Now it's just absolute nonsense with not even a shred of educational value. It's bad enough that some parents prefer to get their kids addicted to electronics because they don't want to actually be parents. Now the electronics just scramble the kids brains to mush instead of at least ATTEMPTING to instil something positive into them.
Brain Rot be like: Yeah, I know it's poison You're feedin' me poison I'm chokin' from the taste and I can't help but swallow Up your poison I made my choice and Every night I'm wasted like there's no tomorrow Oh-oh, oh-oh Any way you want me, baby That's the way you got me, I'll be yours My story's gonna end with me dead from your poison
The negative effects of tik tok, shorts and reels on gen alpha is going to be horrendous. At least gen z didn't have these from birth but gen alpha has grew up with tik tok essentially.
Yeah I had my son who was born in 2023 and I made sure he wasn’t gonna watch any tv shows because studies show that you only have until they’re 5 to undo what a tv show like coocomelon does to your kid. I have a niece who watches this and every show she’s just glued to the tv. My son can watch a show and then he gets distracted by something else while my niece just sits there watching
My girlfriend kept me someone in the loop on coco melon. Our kids have never watched it and never will. I’m only 26 and i didn’t get my first phone until i was in high school. I myself am not too big on my kids having devices they don’t need. The exception of going on long drives my son will have his iPad to watch his cartoons
I'm seeing it happen with my 6 year old nephew and my 8 year old niece. Their parents just give them an ipad (instead of a babysitter... or actually spending time with their own children) and UNRESTRICTED ACCESS to the internet. When it gets taken away from them, they act like drug addicts going through withdrawl.
This is why I plan to raise my kids closer to nature and the outside world. Not just for the sake of their futures but because I need to break free from technology too. Because it's not just kids that are suffering from the worst effects of devices but all of society is. Please try to put your phone down and spend some time outside with your own thoughts. It really helps. It's not healthy to spend your whole life on a screen. I do acknowledge the hypocrisy of saying this on a phone, but how else would one get this message across?
I stick to older shows for my daughter like Mickey Mouse clubhouse, teletubbies, baby Einstein. Also no TV during meals as a hard rule, and limit TV to less than 2 hrs a day
Honestly, as much as I agree with you, I have to bring up something that I didn't hear you mention. The same way we are viewing Cocmelon now is the same way our parents view cartoons like Tom and Jerry. Honestly, all we can do now is just wait and see if the new generation of kids we end up mess up in the head the same way how our parents did. It's a sad reality......
That’s actually hilarious. Cocomelon is the kids show that intentionally does negative effects on babies. Shows back in my day didn’t have to do that and they were still entertaining to watch.
In about 15-20 years from now, those Coconelon babies will ask where the characters Bella, Cece and Nico really came from. And I bet Chris Watts will get lots of visits in jail from the same people as well.
I tried watching an episode and with how many cuts and angles there are i felt genuinely nauseous trying to understand what was going on. Trying to process each frame so fast is actually moderately difficult. Also whats sad about this is even when i become a parent, my kids will still be affected because itll be harder for them to socialize with kids who are watching this content
When I was little, I watched Barney and Friends, Sesame Street, Thomas and Friends, Mister Roger’s Neighborhood, Curious George, Blues Clues, Arthur, etc.
I remember growing up being a history nerd because of the wishbone books and show. Learned so much from that. Wish I'd realized how badly i had depression and gotten help when i was a teenager instead of playing video game 4+ hours a day.
Man even phineas and ferb made being formulaic creative and funny,
Coco melon is a completely mindless formula with no meaning behind it.

We just dont have that now
I'm now EXTREMELY glad then my parents stopped me from excessive screen time when I was little I remember that I could have 1 hour then I had to go outside and play

no cocomelon will be allowed within 300 feet if i ever have kids, PBS Kids was my ride or die growing up, so they're gonna watch that
Something I feel that wasn’t addressed enough in the video is the educational part, like cocomelon isn’t very educational and that there’s plenty of alternatives that actually help develop young minds.
I miss the old days when tv shows used to be good. The good thing is that some of these shows are still around if you know where to look.
Remember when Nickelodeon aired Worldwide Day of Play every year? I think they were on to something.
I don't think that actually worked though.
What stopped people from just changing the channel?
@exciteablevideos Yeah, but what I'm saying is that they were trying to get us to get off the electronics and go outside. If we as kids actually listened, then maybe parents wouldn't be so lazy and instead, tell their kids to go out and play themselves.
I mean, I used to run into the room when Family Guy was on. I loved the show and would always be there when it came on. I grew out of it and I understand delayed gratification
3:07 Only the OGs will remember Boomerang, it's all coming back to you!
Giving kids an iPad with unrestricted internet access should be considered Bad Parenting
*NO EXCUSES*
What happened to Super Why? Word Girl? Cyberchase? The Little Einsteins? Martha Speaks? Dora the Explorer? I think what we see here is an extension of our decline in education, because the cartoons that I remember, kids were actually learning things. I agree parenting plays a big part in this, but we also need to go back to having educational cartoons for kids to watch.
It should be considered child NEGLECT.
I’m 16 rn I got a phone at 12 and I payed a Wii when I was 8-10 but it was like once a week and I would play outside I didn’t start gaming until I was 11-12

It should be illegal…
I know we think back at our childhood and think "I can't beleive we enjoyed that" but then we look to what kids have now, and realize just how well we had it.

The first electronic device I got, was when I was like 7-8, it was a Nintendo DS.

Bluey from what I hear is actually one of the much better online animated series for kids - I guess your kid instantly detected the brain rot on sight! 😂
At least there’s some smart kids out there, cocomelon is trash, it’s just 2-4 minute nursery rhymes that don’t teach children anything.

Im 18, and i was an ipad kid. All these things are true. My brain is utterly cooked.
(Speaking of which, remember when youtube removed the cocomelon diss track?)
Mind you, While I played videogames, watched youtube, and watched TV growing up.
Now, when I was little we had some slower paced kids shows like 'Little bear', 'Clifford The Big Red Dog', 'Mister Roger's Neighborhood', 'Bear In The Big Blue House', 'Sesame Street', 'Blues Clues' etc
I also think it is about balance. They can watch a little but it can't be constant.
Australia just recently banned anyone under the age of 16 from accessing the internet as a result of issues like this. Of course, it's not a fix-all solution but a good first step in limiting internet access and improving kids' mental being and attention span. Now if only the US followed suit
How do they even enforce that?
The USA should follow this rule!
Thank god someone’s talking about this.
CoCoMelon a.k.a. Pre-KUltra is basically the MKUltra for kids and toddler...
I have to agree with you here.
Just sad.

Agreed.
Children’s shows then:
- If serial can have a very interesting storyline and cool plot elements, if episodic it can still be pretty funny and appealing to watch even if it has no continuous story and instead relies on episodic adventures.
-Unique and appealing art style.
-Clever humor that both adults and children can laugh at.
-Taught genuinely valuable life lessons to children.
-Good character development and unique personalities.
-Extra points for that one show that didn’t talk down to the audience while still being kid friendly.
Children’s shows now
- Every episode of the show is a garbage pile of haha goofy mischief.
-Everything needs to be sugarcoated and dumbed down because “ThE KiDDiES WoULDn’t UNDerStAND”
(Not saying all shows are like this now but a majority of them are just pure slop and even though old shows weren’t perfect and had their moments where they dumbed down something they are none the less still better in many ways for children’s learning skills.)
The impact this is going to have on kids imaginations and thus creativity is going to be insane. When your brain is so constantly flooded by simulation you don't have a chance to wonder and imagine, a chance to form your own thoughts and opinions.
Worldwide too.
I can't imagine me being a kid and growing up in today's world.
Just today I took a look inside the new Cocomelon Playdate at the Mall of America. My deepest condolences go out to all the parents who bring their kids to that place.

Oh no bad parenting, how could we stop this.
Brain Rot be like:

I have a niece who watches this and every show she’s just glued to the tv. My son can watch a show and then he gets distracted by something else while my niece just sits there watching
Reject Cocomelon, embrace Bluey.
Cocomelon making sleeper agents activate at the sound of the cocomelon intro.
No everyone loved tom and jerry. It is a timeless masterpiece. Literally every adult back in day enjoyed it
Whats even more sad is that even if the they’re good shows out there, kids arent even interested in them.
6:32 The irony is I just got to ads talking about skippity toilet toys. Well hearing about brainrot then Google's supporting toys of brainrot.
That’s actually hilarious. Cocomelon is the kids show that intentionally does negative effects on babies. Shows back in my day didn’t have to do that and they were still entertaining to watch.
“What do you do for your child to keep them entertained?”
Allow me to introduce, OUTDIDE!
"googooing and gaagaaing" what a perfect quote.
In about 15-20 years from now, those Coconelon babies will ask where the characters Bella, Cece and Nico really came from. And I bet Chris Watts will get lots of visits in jail from the same people as well.
Bad parenting should be punishable by life imprisonment
Its called mkultra mind control ...its used all the time
This is literally the chinpokomon episode from south park
The real parents are the phones, tablets, etc. People are too lazy to take care of their own kids ffs
