That's only in a choir setting. They are in no way alike. Your original comment stated that Mezzo's are also Sopranos, but that can't be possible. Can a mezzo sing in the soprano tessitura? Sure at times, but that's not where their voice comfortably lies so no they aren't sopranos.

Gifts don’t need “formal” training by men, it is just something we are given by the Father. After you know what you are to do, learning is good but you can’t let formal training minimize the gift. The Creator, GOD has blessed each human being with some special talent, you have to discover what you are designed to do and do it! This is what I lacked in knowing growing up, so I’m sharing for those who may have missed it too, but God ain’t done with me yet!
Most are trained though, by the choir director of ministers of music. Especially COGIC singers if they sung in the church choir. I would say probably up to the 2000's, is when that training & the huge youth choirs dropped off.
Facts on who's accord? The Clarks were good but they are not that buzz that people make them. People over look anybody that is not as popular. For example Kelly Rowland is a better singer to me than Beyonce' but because of Beyonce's popularity she gets more praise

Folks love to call vocalists "underrated" when they really mean "I've never heard of them, but I just discovered them, so they're underrated!" The Pace sisters are truly underrated. The vocal talent they all possess(ed) is nothing short of remarkable, but they never received the critical acclaim and mainstream recognition that other groups like the Clark Sisters, The Winans, or Kirk Franklin & The Family. Leslie, Lashun, and Melonda's voices were especially beautiful and powerful.
