CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Stephen (Eddie Redmayne) forms his thesis after hearing Penrose (Christian McKay) discuss his black hole theory.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
James Marsh's biopic of the celebrated scientist Stephen Hawking, The Theory of Everything, stars Eddie Redmayne as the famous figure. Enrolled as a graduate student at Cambridge, Hawking establishes himself as one of the leading minds of his generation, and begins to win the heart of Jane (Felicity Jones). After one of his earliest breakthroughs, Hawking is diagnosed with ALS, and he becomes less and less able to control his own body. With the loyal Jane at his side, he continues his work. However, as the years progress, Jane starts to feel more like a nurse than a wife, and Hawking begins to have feelings for a woman who is hired to care for him. The Theory of Everything screened at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival.

@@smilee2566 They had it pretty much figured out how the image was gonna come out beforehand. The black hole scenes shown in Interstellar are how the real life black holes would look if you could take their image in HD. And Hawking must have visualised them pretty good in his head. But still it's sad.
The fact that Stephen Hawking died before the first image of the black hole makes me really sad. He deserved to see it, that was his gift for everything he did for physics. Life sucks
They pretty much worked out what it would have looked like before the official image
perhaps the picture was taken a bit earlier than when it was shown to the public so maybe...just maybe he got to see it. I like that thought. I will stick to it.
Einstein died before we proved the existence of gravitational waves. But what's really confusing is how he got a nobel prize for discovering the photoelectric effect but not for either of his theories of relativity

i may not know a lot about Stephen Hawking but i've heard he's a scientist who learned so much about Space and the Universe and i praise Eddie Redmayne for playing a very famous Scientist, and also Eddie Redmayne even met and spoken to Stephen Hawking himself! very awesome

It's a sad and well-executed detail in this film that even in these earlier scenes they are already hinting at the progression of his motor neuron disease.
When they are 'winding back the clock' in the park you can see this he his feet are struggling to keep pace and maintain his balance, which is the first symptom of early stage amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
That was just Newt and Remus trying to learn Muggle science.

This is the moment your professor cannot directly teach you anything more. He has taught you everything he can. After that he can only help you by guidance on how to reach your goal. Stephen's thought likely was: "Damn it professor.... you are the professor, I am the student! I thought you could tell me the answer... "

Regardless of religious or spiritual beliefs, there is no denying Hawking was an absolute genius, an instrumental member of the scientific community who’s research changed the world. I wouldn’t care if he believed in lizard people, he was a leader in the field of theoretical physics, whose discoveries and theories led to a better understanding of black holes. I regret that he just barely missed being able to ever see that picture that was finally taken. RIP Stephen Hawking
