    Everyone might hate Schatz, but the damn good ol boy(man) from North Dakota still kicks ass.. why hate on a legend? Just because he is not from the South? He is what Steve Kinser and Sammy Swindell are to this sport, Legends . Gravel and Sweet are not even on the same page as Schatz nor will they ever be..

      @Bruiser McGillicutty
      I couldn't agree more. Sammy and Steve had great battles not only on the track, but of the mind. They were (are) both excellent at car set ups and that helped tremendously working with their top notch crews. Steve had Carl...one of the best ever. The thing with Schatz is, he got hooked up with Stewart and had multi- millions at his disposal. Being in a former sprint car pit crew, I remember a sign that hung in a car builder's shop..."Money buys speed. How fast do you wanna go?" I also remember one night where Stewart paid a visit to our local track in the mildwest to drive a midget. It was a big show with midgets, sprints, mods etc. Anyway, they were lined up for their A main and he started throwing one of the most insane foul mouthed tirades I had seen in all my years in racing. I remember thinking...This guy may be well known, but what a complete a**hole throwing a tantrum like that over basically nothing. I think he was pissed because the race going on had several reds and he wanted it shut down. But back to the point. Schatz teaming up with this guy had the best of everything. The guy does and did have talent. But not all the rest of the guys on the tour can spend so freely like TSR. That's a huge advantage in a class of cars where everything is supposed to be "equal" so to speak with motors and specs etc. But where others have to stretch things, fresh parts and freshened motors will always give that little bit of edge. If you listen to some interviews over the years, guys have said as much about Schatz and TSR. You just gotta pay close attention because they won't just come right out with it. But they do certainly drop hints. I've seen in the last couple years where teams have caught TSR and that's why he don't look as fast. Because sponsor rides are paying the bucks and it's showing. Guys like Sweet, Gravel, Sheldon Haud, and Schuchardt have really come on and others too.

      Bruiser McGillicutty pretty sure Schatz won a few weeks ago and how many Outlaw Championships has he won? It’s 10 times that he has won the ‘Ship. In your book it must ZERO. He is currently Third in total wins in Outlaws history but he never wins, strange how that works.

    • @glenpaul5663
      @glenpaul5663 3 года назад +2

      Bruiser McGillicutty Schatz has won 5 Outlaw Championships without Tony Stewart Racing and 5 with him. He’s been racing for 23 years now and I remember watching him when he first started racing at the age of 19 in Minot and West Fargo. The kid had talent and he was pretty cocky in his younger years, but hey who wouldn’t be when you were that good as a teenager in a mans sport. I agree the money has a lot to do with it nowadays but for his first 16 years, it was pure talent and he had a very good pit crew on top of it. I would rather watch the WoO over NASCAR any day now that they have become a joke along with the rest of pro sports!

      @@glenpaul5663
      Glen, nobody can argue the number of wins or championships Schatz has gotten. I said in my post that the guy has talent. But my point is...he had very deep pockets for which to maintain nearly fresh race cars night in and night out. At least much moreso than most of the rest of the field. I've been in this from a first hand perspective. I've seen a talented guy flounder with mediocre rides and cars, parts and motors etc but he gets a decent ride and goes proportionately towards the top. The sign I mentioned is largely true in racing. In a club such as the WoO where most everything is designed to be "equal", the advantage goes to the team(s) with deep pockets. You're seeing that play out over the last 2-3 years. Schatz is still winning and near the top in points but he isn't as dominant because other teams have started to spend and put talented young guys in the seat. Schatz is in his 40s I think? Shoot, even Sammy at 65 still finished 11th in this race. This is racing dude or sports for that matter. People see what works and get tired of getting beat by the same team. So they spend (copy) and well, you are seeing the results. I mean, look at Logan Schuchardt. 3-4 years ago he was always near the back and barely competitive. Now? He runs right with Schatz and passed him in this race at least once. Little Haud has really come on. Sweet has come on. Gravel got Jason Johnson's former ride and is more competitive. Kyle Larson is on fire when he shows up. We know you love Schatz. But what's happening now with more diversity in winners is good for the sport.

      @@jammin_J64 doesn't matter how much money you have to put into a car,if you don't have the talent,it isn't going to help you. Schatz has won many times when he didn't have the fastest car on the track,he just purely out drove the others. 10 championships and fast approaching 300 career wins speaks volumes.

    Why does everyone always talk dollars? It's not a poor man's game here that's for sure. And last time I checked there wasn't a limit or salary cap on what you can spend. Don't act like you wouldn't take advantage of every dollar you could to try to beat the best. I love the competition that all those dollars bring in this sport. It's great. Wasn't Nascar better when every car and team wasn't exactly the same? That's why Nascar is so boring now. Who do you root for? They are all virtually the same. if it didn't say "Camaro" or "mustang" on the front most people couldn't tell the difference. In the old days you had the guys you loved vs. the guys you hated. Chevy vs. Ford. I miss those days!
