8:29 this is just the end-slate gag but its something I actually think about what constitutes a 'wasted slot' a fair amount. Its a rather specific implication, and the only way to really know if the slot was 'wasted' is if we knew who that character was against, AND that their inclusion didnt add anything at all. I still think Nina BOF should've been in UMvC3 over Firebrand for alot of reasons cause thats a rare case where we know directly who was being compared, but I cant really blame people if they like Firebrand. I just think Nina would've added more to the roster as a whole (like repping a new franchise and getting a woman rep in UMvC3 since there weren't any.) People also sometimes have the problem of "well *I* like this character so that means there was absolutely no problems with their inclusion whatsoever." You can like a character, find them a ton of fun to play, and still think 'okay this is a bit redundant' (looking at you people who defend Goku #41 in DBFZ)
Pre-Xrd: She's a cool samurai chick and a reference to Rouruni Kenshin Xrd: BOOBS Gameplay wise ppl hated fighting against her because she punched blockstrings but in Xrd she was in the top 10 characters played
Look some people like Baiken for her Xrd design, some people are upset that her Xrd design strayed from the elements that made her interesting in the first place, but some people with the same immaculate taste as myself like Baiken's Xrd design for the rad skulls on her jacket
I didn't play Guilty Gear pre Xrd, so I know people won't believe it, but I'm simply just a weeb who thinks Samurais are cool (I do think Nago looks great as well). I've always liked cool and strong women in media and two of my favorite character designs are Guts from Berserk and Venom Snake from MGSV so I've always gravitated towards single eyed, single armed badasses. With all that said I'm not going to pretend I'm anything but a casual if even that when it comes to fighting games so I can't speak on her gameplay.
I actually really think this is a pretty smart redesign of Baiken. I love her in plus r and Xrd and while I will miss her guard cancels and command dash, it makes some sense for this kind of game. Having that many guard cancel options would be incredibly strong in a game where the stage is overall smaller and a lot of pressure is oriented around staggering your strings. The other thing is that Baiken was pretty accessible defensively for any level due to guard cancels, but her offense was a little more demanding. Like of course you could just tatami and hope for the best (which gives you a fighting chance tbh LOL), but that's not her consistent or powerful offense. That came from advanced techniques like kire tatami, tiger knee youzansen, etc. These techniques, along with some finicky confirms off of them, often made Baiken's offense a little unapproachable for new players (at least from my intermediate observations/thoughts). Her offense is SUPER good, it's just a matter of putting in the time to get to it that people struggled with. Tether creates a more clear and accessible offensive gameplan, while still maintaining things like kire tatami pressure and oki. As someone who's loved playing previous versions of Baiken, I'm super excited to play her in Strive!
My head hurts... Man, how the hell are you impressed by this? First off, this song sucks ass compared to some of the other compositions. It's baseless metal without any melodic structure that's memorable. The chord construction is generic and the bassline mainly stayed on one note. A standard metal song. And I don't even dislike Strive's soundtrack. It's probably better than Xrd's and I HATE Strive. Second, she doesn't even have to guess her parry anymore (No shocker from the game that babies the hell out of people). I mean, Guilty Gear aside, that is such a baby move. In almost every fighting game, a parry had to be a guess that wasn't just about being thrown out of it. Third, she looks like every other character in this passionless, talentless, uninteresting, barf worthy game. Play neutral, do a combo. Play neutral, do a combo. If I wanted that crap, I'd play Street Fighter. Not Guilty Gear. I'm having an aneurism as to why you're impressed by this garbage game. Fourth, "that was pretty tight looking", she has had that for a while. Fifth, come on man. Are you really impressed by the fact that people need to be handed their opportunities so hard that a character has a move that can automatically move them to an opponent? Cause I'm not. Sixth, so many guard crushes in this game with minimal movement shouldn't even exist and is just symbolic of how people don't want the thrill of the battle, but just a way to feel like they can get a hit in even if they don't deserve it. Seven, the reason why she's recovering so long is because it's basically her "oki" in this half assed game to make sure her next hit is ensured because this game is so slow paced. When it lands, she should be able to attack after and do only so little. Eight, are you guys really impressed by the fact this bitch launcher herself to you? I mean, is THAT really impressive? That doesn't sound like people are being tethered like a child to be handed an instance? My head legitimately hurts from the fact people are impressed by this game. So much has happened in fighting game history and Strive has brought nothing interesting to the table. People are impressed by the fact that a character can automatically get the chance to be up on their opponent as if that's a new concept. Smash Brothers has more unique qualities than Strive has to offer and I don't even like Smash Brothers. Combo maker? What the hell IS that? People didn't use to make up most of their combos in practice mode. They just knew how to make them work. That was how Guilty Gear was. Living in the moment. Going with your own flow. Knowing how the game worked. FREEDOM. Something Strive doesn't offer. Instead, you HAVE to play a certain way, HAVE to do this or that, and HAVE to get off damage by only trying this. You can barely do a reset in this game. How are you impressed by this?! Even then, Guilty Gear wasn't just about hitting someone and doing a combo. Would it happen? Yes. But there were sooo many instances where matches would play out in unique ways. I don't want some loser making my combos. I want to make up my OWN stuff. I want my money back. I thought I was getting into a Guilty Gear that would make the game unique while making it easier for people to pull off interesting opportunities. Instead, I got some basic fighting game with the WORST aspects of Guilty Gear returning, almost none of the spirit Guilty Gear had making any return and some characters that are HANDED opportunities. Not characters you make opportunities with. But characters that HAND you opportunities. Mechanics in this game that balanced out the craziness of the game and were actually DISGUSTING make a return in a game where none of the crazy things that made Guilty Gear what it was return in a repetitive, monotonous piece of trash with 0 spirit. This game can go to hell. It just shows me people don't like learning. If I had to teach a lesson to my kid from this joke of a game? "Son, if you have a way to take the easy way out and bribe yourself out of a situation? Do it. Rob people blind, help nobody and never be passionate about anything." Great lesson to learn from this piece of corrupt bullcrap. With how this game is designed, there is no room for it to evolve either. They'd have to basically revamp the game. In Xrd, they were pretty lazy about balancing that game and removed mechanics that were obviously going to be removed anyways. Do people really think that in Strive, it's going to be that much different when everything that made Guilty Gear unique was stripped away and their last "big patch" barely changed the game?
Wow, she looks just as mediocre as the rest of this game. Congrats. When's a real Guilty Gear style game coming out instead of this cheapened down Street Fighter bullcrap?

You can like a character, find them a ton of fun to play, and still think 'okay this is a bit redundant' (looking at you people who defend Goku #41 in DBFZ)
Genuine question.
Why do people like baiken?
Pre-Xrd: She's a cool samurai chick and a reference to Rouruni Kenshin
Xrd: BOOBS
Gameplay wise ppl hated fighting against her because she punched blockstrings but in Xrd she was in the top 10 characters played
Two big reasons
Her voice, mostly
They got rid of her core mechanic. Come on. She's just Xrd Baiken but less
BRIDGET FOR STRIVE
The ending the video was hilarious lmaooo
