First of all very classy reaction, Just in case 18 people haven't already informed you. This was no act of Dragonforce plagiarism. Herman Li and Sam Totman wrote the original guitar parts over 10 years ago. And played the guitars for the studio track that appeared on the album. I've often wished there were some way to let knowledgeable reactors know in advance how Dragonforce was deeply involved in this song. Some really can't get over it and it def plays with their brains until they realize what's actually going on.
Really liked the way you understood how much it takes to put on a performance like this. And the fact that every note (sung or played) is synced perfectly to the lights, lasers and all coming off to perfection. Just holding that all together blows my mind.
This song is one of Babymetal's legacy classics. Seeing the 17 year old Su and 15 year old Moa&Yui commanding perhaps even more interaction from a crowd of 20K in 2015 is pretty much canon and required listening for fans of Babymetal. The choreography now is pretty much the same as it was then...and still does it's job well. Speaking of jobs, well done on this one.

As a fellow old man metal dude (I'm 47), fellow Australian, and massive Babymetal fan, it's always nice to see another Aussie discovering Babymetal.
Babymetal did their first ever full tour of Australia in June 2023, playing shows in Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne, which was a real treat for local Babymetal fans that can't travel to see them.
Babymetal are very open about their musical influences and inspirations and seem to operate on the "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" principle, as they love to infuse their songs with elements of artists that inspire them. The reason this song sounds so Dragonforce is that Herman Li and Sam Totman from Dragonforce wrote the guitar parts for it and played on the studio recording. Dragonforce were one of the first big western metal bands to publicly support Babymetal and have played with them live on several occasions.
I went to Japan for this show that the video was filmed at. I've been to quite a few Babymetal shows, both in Australia and in Japan, and the PIA Arena shows are still my favourite of all the ones I have been to. The crowd for this show was 12,000 each day, which is on the small side for a Babymetal headline show in Japan; they usually play venues of around around 20,000 capacity, but none of the larger venues in Yokohama were free that weekend. And yes, the crowd was really loud at this show, probably the loudest crowd for any Babymetal show I've been to.
Babymetal's backing band for live shows are called the Kami Band (Kami are gods or spirits in the Japanese Shinto religion), they are professional session musicians hand picked by Babymetal's manager Kobametal to accompany them. There are actually two Kami Bands, one made up of Japanese musicians, and one make up of American musicians. Although this show was in Japan, it was the Kami Band of the West (American) playing, so the musicians were Chris Kelly (guitar, left of stage), CJ Masciantonio (guitar, right of stage), Clint Tustin (bass), and Anthony Barone (drums). When they're not playing with Babymetal, Clint is guitarist for ERRA, and Anthony is the new drummer for All That Remains.
I was like you for a long time in that I dismissed them as a gimmick band and didn't give them a fair chance, but after the youtube algorithm put a couple of their videos in front of me a few years ago, I feel deep into the Foxhole and never got out. I've been to Japan four times to see them live, and it's never less than amazing. They've become my favourite band of all time.

@@maxtusker4380 I meant a full tour in the sense that they did their own solo headline shows. The only previous time they came, they only played a 40 minute set at Good Things festival.
Besides, most major touring artists only come to the east coast since that's where most of the population is anyway. If you live somewhere else in the country and you want to see them, come to one of the east coast shows. I know of fans who came from NZ to see them.

@@Icipher353 Ok I understand what you mean now. Might be better to say Headlining concert to avoid misunderstanding.
I live in WA. It's all very well to suggest people go to the east coast to see a concert. Unfortunately I can't afford $1000 for just the air fairs not to mention accommodation costs.
And before anyone raises the argument that it cost too much for a band to travel across Australia, other big name groups have done it. Mind you Perth is closer to Japan than the eastern states. I love Babymetal but I don't like Amuse.

I'll never forget being at the "House of Blues" in Chicago for my second BABYMETAL concert, right after they released their second album, and were viral, but still VERY small, and they still gave the Kami Band the spotlight they deserve, and only like...a WEEK after this song released as a single. That call-and-response "whoa-oh-ah-oh" moment is the highlight of the 500+ bands I've ever seen live. (you can find it on RUclips, but it doesn't compare to BEING there) Still the best live band of those 500+ I've ever seen, which is crazy to think about (including absolute LEGENDS like front-row Metallica, etc.) ruclips.net/video/lxRCHCBqKf4/видео.htmlsi=89pUHZKYVgv6kVdO&t=241 @4:02, if anyone is interested :)

Great reaction and welcome back to Babymetal! This song has been a staple show closer for almost a decade now (although not at this show).
As others mentioned, a very Dragonforce inspired song. Herman Li and Sam Totman even played the guitars for the studio recording of this song, and acted as Babymetal’s backing band on a few occasions.
While Babymetal officially is just the 3 girls, their backing band, The Kami Band are some of the best session players. Babymetal originally had a Japanese band (Kami East) for almost a decade, who are insane musicians.
Their current band, Kami West have been supporting Babymetal since 2019, and became their sole backing band in 2023.
Kami West members (left to right - before image flip):
    Chris Kelly - Guitar
    Clint Tustin - Bass
    Anthony Barone - Drums
    CJ Masciantonio - Guitar
Chris, CJ, and Clint were members of Galactic Empire, a Star Wars themed metal band. Clint is also currently in a band called ERRA, with Ryan Neff replacing him during tour conflicts. Anthony was ex-drummer for Shadow of Intent, and dude’s a beast.
Babymetal varies greatly in their style and influences, so I hope you check them out more!

Welcome back, great reaction.🦊🤘This is just one of the styles they do, only a handful of their songs are power/speed metal. They have about 70 songs now, each one different to the last.
I suspect something like 'Mirror Mirror' (also live at PIA Arena) might be more like the sort of thing that might appeal more to you now (I am guessing of course - if I'm wrong try another song, I guarantee you will find songs that do appeal more to you).
The similarity in this one to DragonForce is not a coincidence - Herman Li and Sam Totman from DragonForce did the guitar arrangements for this song (it is the only one they were involved in) and recorded the guitars for the album version. They also played it live together at an awards show in London in 2015.
About the song itself - 'Road of Resistance' is a very positive song, it isn't the usual "resist the machine or the system etc" that we might expect from the title. It is about forging your own road even where a road doesn't already exist, not necessarily going the easy way (ie the path of least resistance) or following the path already made by somebody else, so if the way you want to go has never been trodden you may have to get past the resistance of the undergrowth, obstacles, hurdles and things blocking your way etc to find your own way.
It could easily be used to describe BABYMETAL's own story - they could have followed the well trodden path of J-Pop and been very successful, but they chose to go with Metal ... but again they didn't just follow the same old format of every other metal band, they have done it their own way and it hasn't always been an easy road to follow.
The instrumentalists are the Kami Band. There are two Kami Bands now - the Kami Band East and the Kami Band West.
East are the very best session musicians to be found in Japan, each one a world class musician. They were originally phased in over about 18 months playing a couple of festivals and the encores in some shows after October 2012 and became the full time support for all live shows from March 2014.
There have been many Kami Band members over the years as they swap in and out depending on their own availability, but the same hard core of about 6 played the vast majority of concerts from late 2013 through to January 2023.
They were Mikio Fujioka (RIP Jan 2018), Leda Cygnus, Takayoshi Ohmura and ISAO on guitars, BOH with his 6 string bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums.
In 2019 the Kami Band of the West (American musicians) were introduced to support BABYMETAL in their increasingly lengthy foreign tours and from April 2023 (from the PIA Arena concerts where this was filmed) they have been ever present (BABYMETAL played nearly 100 concerts in 25 countries in 2023 and they are busy touring the festivals and more this year).
The Kami Band of the West are Chris Kelly and CJ Masciantonio on guitars, Clint Tustin on bass (Ryan Neff has stood in for him when he is playing with his other band) and Anthony Barone on drums.

If the east band no longer plays with BABYMETAL, it means they are no longer apart of the Kami band. So it's just wrong to say they have two. Also, BOH switched to a 5 string bass recently.

    • @Grington300
      @Grington300 15 дней назад +6

@@Hymnodic They will always be Kami Band members whether past or present. It is true they haven't played since January last year, but neither you or I know if they will or won't be back, so saying there are two Kami Bands is not necessarily incorrect or untrue.

    • @Hymnodic
      @Hymnodic 15 дней назад

@@Grington300 The only reason they probably performed in January in 2023 is because of the uncertainty that the western band could perform because of COVID travel restrictions, and they came back to almost zero camera time, even worse than Budokan 2021 before BM's temporary hiatus. Budokan 2021 being another concert they were probably signed for because of the restrictions. LMG in 2020 was probably suppose to be their send-off.

MomoMetal I'm not sure, but I think he's younger than Moa, although he joined the group this past year. You have been played. The owner of this You Tube Channel this is from only recommends songs on his channel. The fact that you were pushed to this latter version of R of R proves my point. Although the PIA show are, in general, great, the R of R version does not capture the magic of the Live In Japan 2015 performance. You should watch it on your own time to see why the vast majority of The One perfer the original.

If you haven't noticed, even by just reading other comments, I am not the only one that requests my channel. The performances on my channel, are ones I deem worthy to dedicate my time to translating and subtitling the performances. I don't bother with Live in Japan 2015, because that performance of the song is less technical, and has the audio production that reflects it's 2015 date. It also doesn't have Momo.

Only issue I have is that The PIA tracks will likely give me the same issue I had with this one ( I had to re-edit 5 times and spent 3 hours on this video alone to get it to not be blocked )

@@oldmanmetaldude try putting a filter over the screen the viewers see. That works most times. Babymetal fans understand filters are necessary sometimes. But the performances are worth it.

@@oldmanmetaldude I doubt it's a concert issue then, most likely a false positive with the specific song. It can certainly happen, specifically with older songs such as Road of Resistance. Some old concerts that are outright copyright blocked completely, and they are still in YT's database, and YT likes to detect even newer audio as such.

I'm a fan of the band but this song is my least favorite, honestly. But it's a good introduction I guess.
