How do Shubunkins breed?
Goldfish (including shubunkins and Sarasa comets,) Koi, Tench, Orfe and Rudd are all egg scatterers. Summer temperatures warm pond water and the female's bellies start to swell up with eggs. You may notice that some of your fish are bigger and fatter than others, and they're the females.
How can you tell if a Shubunkin is male or female?
Shubunkins have a few minor physical differences. Males have slightly thicker fin rays on their pectoral or side fins. Additionally, females have more rounded bodies, particularly when viewed from above.
Can Shubunkins breed with common goldfish?
All are the same species and can interbreed. Often people ask if shubunkins can breed with common goldfish or if fantails can breed with comets. Well, they are all the same species. ... Goldfish can also be any combination of each of these varieties in which case they may be multiple varieties at the same time.
How long does it take for Shubunkin to grow?
It may take several months for the nacreous coloration to develop on a young fry (baby fish). Shubunkins are excellent pond fish because they reach a length of 9 to 18 inches (23 to 46 cm) at adulthood. A Shubunkin goldfish is considered an adult at 1 to 2 years of age, even though they live much longer.
Thanks for watching!
Only just happened upon this channel, nice vid, nice attitude, good knowledge.
I built my Mum n Dad a small pond 3 years ago and with a bit of common sense and advice had it up to speed within a few weeks.
Safe to say, I've removed about 20 fish every summer since.
Glad to see your a fan of the channel mate! Means the world!! Goldfish are such a fun fish to spawn!

Yup.. My shubbies breed several times in spring and summer.. I have never tried to collect their eggs but going to try this year as the demand for shubs is growing..
Anxious to get working on my ponds but weather is shite and we are under total lockdown and a stay at home order..

What types of Shubunkins are these ones? My favourite are the American/Japanese Shubunkins, with their lovely long tails.
These are the royal blue shubunkin:)
@@TheBaldingReefer I didn't even know that was a type, as you can tell I am a newbie. I had them years ago, I was young and thought it was just the one type back then lol
Could you recommend a good informative and accurate website about all the subtypes? Breeding, care etc.? I only knew of my favourite plus the London and Bristol. Thank you :)
The gill plates on a male feels like sand paper looks very cool doing it in a fish tank
Cheers mick! They pop so good under lights don't they
Sir if one of my shubankin will lay eggs will the other females eat it
