    I always thought bee balm only came in 1 or 2 colors and just 1 height. Boy was I wrong! I love this plant when planted in mass and the hummingbirds are all over it when it's in bloom! Do you have bee balm in your yard or will you be adding it to your garden this year?

    Thanks for doing these videos. I’m enjoying learning more about each plant and thanks for letting us know the time stamp for when you start talking about the plant. ☺️

      You're very welcome! I feel silly putting the repetitive stuff in the beginning, but I know I'm getting new people watching my videos and I want to make sure they have all the information they need if they're new to winter sowing.
      I'm enjoying researching and sharing information on each of these plants. Thank you for your feedback, friend! 😊💞🌸

    I really like the way you explain the process of winter sowing. I sent one of you videos to my sister who has never winter sown. Now she is going to try it.

    Hi, Vita. I will be winter sowing for the first time this year. I already have 11 milk jugs outside with leafy greens and some herbs. Also, Cosmo, 2 different kinds. I also got Wild Bergamot Bee Balm in purple that I will be sowing very soon. I will also sow Purple Coneflower. I got them from
    MIGarderner. I have never sown any flower seeds in my life. I am very excited about it. I feed Hummingbirds and I can't wait for them to come back in April and to offer them more than just sugar water! I am looking forward to all of your other videos! :) Thank you!

      Hi Ingrid! Yay to winter sowing!! And yay to sowing flower seeds. Trust me when I say you'll be hooked! I absolutely LOVE having flowers all around my yard and I save so much money just by starting my own plants from seed. I'm patient and can wait 2 years for perennials to bloom.
      I love hummingbird feeders (especially if they are placed where you can really watch the activity) but during the last few years, I haven't put up my feeders because I noticed I have a lot of plants that the hummingbirds enjoy. So in a way I've become lazy! 😅The hummingbirds really do love the bee balm but they also love my rhododendrons as well as the flowers on the coleus. I'll have to pay better attention to what else they like in my yard.
      Thank you for your continued support, friend! 😊🙏🏼💗🌼

    At a funeral for a man I’ve known since I was twelve years old,he was the foreman/ crew leader on the first job I ever had on a hybrid seed corn farm. We detassled the one variety of corn so it would cross pollinate with the second variety. We then worked together nine years on the town highway department. Feel like I’ve lost an uncle. Know him for well over three quarters of my life. He was over ninety,imagine the things he saw in his life.

    I sowed 6 milk jugs of flower seeds this afternoon!!!
    The varieties were purple cone flower, White Swan echinacea, Cheyenne Spirit echinacea, Shasta Daisy, cream color foxglove and a rudbeckia hardy annual. I have more seed that I will be starting soon! Last year was the first time that I tried winter sowing in milk jugs and had great success thanks to you!!!❤❤😊❤

      Hi Nancy. Yay on sowing 6 milk jugs!! It sounds like you sowed some pretty neat flowers. Do you remember what you sowed last year? This should be the year that some of them bloom! I'm so glad that you are having success with winter sowing. Winters can be long and hard for many of us so it gives us something fun to do together. 🥰💞🌻

    You are my go to for winter sowing. I’d tell you what bee balm I am sowing, but they’re lost in the refrigerator somewhere 😂. I do want to put them out.
    Foiled by disorganization (not in the cheese drawer where I saw them last week.)😮

      Hi Dani. Thank you! 😊 I'm trying to pace myself with winter sowing and share what I'm sowing each time in case anyone wants to winter sow with me. I'm also really enjoying doing the plant profiles as I'm learning a lot and hopefully others are well. 💞 That's too funny about your "lost" bee balm seeds by the way! 😂

    I have a quarter acre of red bee balm that stayed as a few plants 10 years ago. I've taken root divisions and they do well, but Ive never collected seeds. I'll check out your video on it.

    • @budgetgardeningvita
      @budgetgardeningvita  21 день назад +1

      I love how pretty the red bee balm looks when it's in bloom. It must look gorgeous when all of yours is blooming! Root division is definitely the easiest way to propagate bee balm if you have the plant, but if you see it somewhere else (in a different color) and you want to add it to your landscape, then collecting the seed is a great option. I also like collecting the seeds from all different plants and growing them that way just for fun! 😊🌱🌹

    I just winter sowed bee balm today. I wasn't sure because it didn't say anything on the seed packet about cold stratification. I was happy to see your video.

      Hi Peggy! I'm so glad that you winter sowed your bee balm seeds. When it comes to perennial seeds, I'd much prefer to give them the cold stratification period just to be safe, as I've found conflicting information on whether some perennial seeds do or do not need that cold period. 😊🌻

    Thank you again for another great video. I have a really nice patch of bee balm in my yard already and to be honest, I never thought to collect seeds from them. On another note, I’ve been wanting to ask you if you have ever grown a grass called Bunny Tails. It’s an annual and I was wondering if I can winter sow this and if so when should I do that. Thanks again. 😊

    • @budgetgardeningvita
      @budgetgardeningvita  21 день назад +2

      Thank you, Celeste! 🙏🏼😊💗 Honestly, division is the easiest way (most times) when it comes to propagating any of our perennials. But I love making how to collect seed videos for as many plants as I can think of because one of my goals for my channel is to make it a library of videos showing how to collect the seed from various plants. But definitely for my red bee balm, I'll be dividing a ton of it this coming spring. I want to spread it all around my yard because I loved it so much last year. 🐝
      I grew Bunny Tails grass from seed maybe 2-3 years ago. I grew the plants indoors under my LED shop lights, but I imagine you could winter sow the seeds if you like. If you were to winter sow the seeds, I suggest winter sowing them 1-2 months before your average last frost date. If they sprout but then there's a chance of a frost or freeze, be sure to protect your plants by bringing them in or covering them with a blanket or something. Good luck, friend! 🤞🏼

    • @celestedinnocenzo8513
      @celestedinnocenzo8513 21 день назад +1

      Yes, thank you. I agree that division is sometimes the easiest but I honestly love collecting the seeds as well (thanks to you). I didn’t even think of doing that in the past. I love the idea of having a library of videos for collecting seeds. I refer to your videos often.
      Thank you for getting back to me with the info regarding the Bunny tails. I may try winter sowing and starting some inside. I’ll let you know how I make out.
      Thanks again. I love your videos. 😊

    Hello , what about the slugs getting in??

    • @gwen6518
      @gwen6518 22 дня назад +3

      I use coffee filters at the bottom of my container and it helps keep slugs out. I also tape all the way around so that they can't get in easily.

    • @budgetgardeningvita
      @budgetgardeningvita  21 день назад

      Hi Sandy! I've never had a problem with slugs getting into my containers. I researched it a bit and found that you can buy copper barriers (like copper rings or copper tape) which slugs don't like. I also read that spreading a bit of Diatomaceous earth on top of the potting mix might help. Good luck, friend! 🤞🏼🌸😊

    I just winter sowed Wild Bergamont Bee Balm. I think it's a light pink. I tried to winter sow some last year from some seeds I clocked but I think I let the jug dry out too much and I didn't have any luck. I'm feeling good about it this year.
