If you didn't know, there was a puzzle game called アイルーでパズルー (Puzzles with Airuu) with the same art style, but it was made by Natsume instead of From Soft. You basically just compete in puzzles against NPCs, but you could go against your friends with Ad Hoc wireless. It came out in 2012.
Korenani korenani nekoooo
His!
Fromsoft definitely did a lot of this third-party work before they became known for the souls games. In fact, you can actually connect certain demon designs from smt/persona to early demons' souls designs since fromsoft used to be closer with atlus and actually shared some visual designers with them. Specifically King of the Storm and Forneus likely share an origin. The fact that fromsoft had such humble origins just makes it all the better that they've found such a strong niche these days.
Very true! I just find it funny that they enjoyed this IP so much that they decided to make another one in 2015
Wait, FromSoft worked on an SMT game at some point? Which one?
They did alot of crazy stuff. Before the Souls games they were known for being the makers of King's Field, Armored Core, and Kuon. Honestly thinking of them as the Souls guys is a disservice.
Let's not forget Echo Night and Shadow Tower.
Shadow Tower... The only one of their games to filter me forever.
@@diamondmetal3062 No they did not, this comment was complete speculation.
This game has Lagiacrus so it's a 10/10
B A S E D
I didn't see Zinogre, so that's another big plus!
@@it_is_i_deo Lagiacrus > Zinogre
I miss my lagi boi so much.
@@it_is_i_deo but zinogre is a very good fight
@@megumin9020 it's a decent fight that I've been made to do way too many times. I'm sick of the fact that, since it's introduction, the games decide that I need to fight several of them every 8 hours or so. Additionally, I hate its tinny sound effects.
I like this game, I'm glad it exists, even though I can't play it, just knowing it exists cheers me up a bit
i agree
Same, it actually looks fun as hell and I really wish it wasn't japan-exclusive lol
agreed, if i can i will search for a torrent and translate it
Time to learn Japanese I guess, I will never forgive the japanese!
@@2manololo it's on cdromance, the .iso that is.
I've always wanted to play this and hope that you can translate this if you can.
Holy crap…
So this means that bonfires originated in a MH game before it was even a thing in Dark Souls! 🤯
Demon's Souls came out before this.
They aren’t bonfires in Demon’s Souls.
@@RED_XLR theres no bonfires in demons souls
I don’t know what to do with this lol information
Yes barry. It was monhun all along!!!!
Poogie in this game means it's better than Rise.
real
Based
Poogie > cohoot
Let's fight otherwise
Rise has a Coohoot and dog so, debatable at most
@@Chronostra well cohoot< poogie
POOGIE SUPREMACY
@@Chronostra palamute > poogie
It's unfortunate that Fromsoft gets typcast as the 'dark fantasy company.' Hell, before I was ever interested in Dark Souls, the only game of theirs I played was 3D Dot Game Heroes, a silly homage to classic Zelda.
yeah i find kinda annoying XD
they totally didn't make 20 mech games before hahahha
@@archonthaaproducer they made so much obscure shit. its amazing.
i would say take a look at their list of games on Wikipedia
At least Devolver was decent enough to translate Metal Wolf Chaos for Western audiences.
Also, crazier builds on Elden Ring reminded me of Armored Core. Combining Bloodhound's Step AW with attack spells was just a beginning.
They also did Tenchu. I wonder if they would ever return to that franchise?
@@yellowcard8100 dark phantasy is a stretch honestly, kings field is more just fantasy
So its basically Animal Crossing x Patapon x Monster Hunter
Looks cool honestly
I'm glad people still remember Patapon, it's one of my favorite game trilogies and I still play them to this day
@@AlyxTheProtogen Another Patapon appreciator here. God I wish Parafour was real
i fcking miss patapon.
@@kapi3590 isn't it real tho?... it is a fan made but you can check out their game from what i check last time they still update the game
Omg, I remember watching a gameplay video of this game, over and over again when I was a kid because it looks too darn cute.... but holy crap, did I not realise it was made by Fromsoftware, the very same company that made my beloved souls franchise.
ahhh my heart broke when you said there's no fan translation. here's to hoping someone fluent in japanese and english sees this video and becomes inspired to make one- i would love to play this game.
I began to translate it at some point a few months ago, but I realized about 2 weeks in that it was just way too big for one person to translate it. Fingers crossed that a group of people take up the task.
@@monkeeeem yeah, I have to imagine any localization is a massive undertaking, especially for a game like this that seems quite large. Props for even attempting it though!
@@draculactica Thank you! It would definitely have been too much for me, once I scrolled through it I realized that there were well over 10,000 strings of text to translate, all varying in size. Not impossible, but definitely a lot of work for one person.
@@monkeeeem Do you think you could do it with Ai-assisted tools nowadays? I feel like I want to try it out with this but I don't even know where to start
@@RandomnessCreates At the current moment I'd have to say it's unlikely, simply because of the format. I was translating the 3DS version of the game, and to even access/modify text in the game I had to use multiple programs (one to decompile the game, one to modify the text files, and one to recompile the game). I feel like maybe it could be done, but the format of the text files is strange, you modify it in cells like Excel rather than like a Word document if that makes sense, so you'd have to work around that. If you want to start then I could gladly send you the list of programs I was using, but I'd highly recommend getting help from others to sift through the text faster.
Japan, Korea and China developed game universes amuse me to no end. You got grim dark, fairytale and fantasy games with semi realistic gritty Gothic art styles and on the other side of the coin you got
This
Don't forget about the adventures of cookies and cream
Elden Ring and the monster hunter equivalent to Animal Crossing
And all of them are east asian, no wonder why people thought only east asia was asian
you forgot MECHA
i would love to see this come to the switch. sounds like my dream relaxation game.
Making a felyne village, I’m in, all in 🗿
I actually played this and it's super fun except for the fact that I don't speak japanese and got stuck after a while. But the graphics are super cute and there is a lot to do and it has many cool details.
Quite the complex game actually.
It feels like a combination of Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon, Persona 5 and Zelda. I wish there was a fan translation.
I have been saying they need to do a farming game like Animal Crossing but Monster hunter themed or a least a crossover for years...why am I just now finding out that this was a thing (mind you I've been play MH for over 16 years)? Thanks man, you post some great content but you're a real one for this right here!
This is Hands done the best series fromsoft has ever done and not sure why they never revisited it.
I genuinely like these games
The reason why From Software made this game is because their therapist told them to do so after the developers complained about nightmares involving monstrous creatures. I have no source for this claim but this is totally what must have happened.
They only made one souls game before this tho
@@mohammadsaleem5990 king's field is a precursor to the souls series along with shadow tower and eternal ring. They are also creepy and dark games.
The first game they made you are literally about 10 seconds away from a dead corpse
Its always the funniest thing when people realize that FromSoftware has made a ton of games and are more than just Dark Souls.
you never really realized until they took off with the Souls series. I just found out they made most of my childhood games like Tenchu.
This game has an incredible OST, I haven't played any of the games yet since there was no DX demo but come back to listen often.
I think developers making some totally different stuff, its cool to see people doing different things and all
In this day and age yea but this was 10 years ago. All Triple A companies do now a days is copy each other. Which leads to un-unique games... So yea it'd be great if they did this now a days. Maybe if Sony brought Patapon back...
@@RED_XLR Thats really funny because fromsoftware is triple A dawg 💀
@@RED_XLR stop being so negative because last I checked from soft is still going strong making new games instead of remaking the same on like other devs
The moment all those palicos simultaneously crouched and moved past that rathian made me instantly love this game I will never play
For the longest time I only knew the franchise from the "Monster hunter - felyne village" anime that I watched on my DS and everytime someone talked about or showed footage of Monster hunter i was so confused....
i was always like "where are the cute cats?😟"
Monster hunter world does have a lot cute cats
That damn elder cramping his style. Doesn’t he understand a fella needs to flex his Felyne swagger? The most difficult Fromsoft challenge yet, dealing with OLD PEOPLE.
absolutely loving all this MH content 🙏
I've finally seen someone talk about this fever dream of a game, thank you
Miyazaki in his infinite wisdom:
"cats, deal with it"
I've always wanted to see a farm-sim monster hunter. I never got to experience the farm from the older games. But I'd like to see our Hunters be given a life outside of just hunting.
if you know the history of fromsoft this isn't out of character at all. If you're a zoomer then maybe you are under the impression they started making games with souls series. I grew up with games like cookie and cream, eternal ring, armored core series, otogi, king's field, etc
and they just announced a new Armored Core game too.
The true dark souls of all the monster hunter games
I have this crippling feeling that the Fromsoftware devs got traumatized so hard by the Double Rajang quest so they created the Double Maneater boss as a revenge so other people would suffer.
OH MY GOD i love this game thanks so much for talking about it. Its even got a manga series based on it! Instant subscription 💙
I wish there was an english patch for the game, it looks so damn cute
There is iirc, played one in psp years ago with an english patch
It was not a perfect patch though, there are still lots of stuff where you got to guesstimate
I hope fan translations are made after this video. I'd totally love to play it!
I would love a crossover Dark Souls quest like they did with the Witcher. Hunting a Gapeing Dragon in monster hunter and a Rathalos in Elden Ring would be sick
If this game ever receives an English translation I would definitely play it.
Love the video! and the editing is fun, good job!
Tried this games before and heck i really hope someone could fan translate this gem...its darn cute and relaxing too
Surprisingly true to the core series for a spin-off with the emphasis on material gathering, and the ability to hunt monsters.
The souls devs made a monster hunter game and their first thought was ANIMAL CROSSING + POOGIE!?!?
Perfection.
I didn’t know this existed and now I want it in the west more than any other game
As someone who burned out pretty quickly on the current animal crossing... I need one of these made for switch and released here, Now, like right now.
This looks like a ton of fun and seems like the sort of game I didn't even know I wanted until it was brought to my attention. Too bad I'll probably never get to play it :(
@@brkenppt2222 Yeah but my Japanese is very much limited to just spoken word so I don't think I'd be able to enjoy it without at least a good fan translation. But who knows maybe I'll actually get better at reading someday and I can play it then, or I someone does make a translation, whatever happens first lol
Now I need Cat Souls. A dark fantasy action game where cute cats beat the crap out of giant demons.
Monster hunter was the original dark souls definitely took a lot of inspiration
At 0:10 Monster Hunter is older when the Soul series so it is more the other way around
Ok, knocked out Laggi looks way to damn cute. What world is are we living in? Its so, interesting.
Edit: changed my mind, they are all fuckin adorable, especially that pissed off look on the Bulldrome.
Once you find out FromSoftware made Metal Wolf Chaos, nothing about them surprises you anymore.
Also I wish this series was more popular so we could get it in the West. I want to build a Felyne village with a minimalist chibi art style...
Thank you for introducing me to this masterpiece
That dance animation is great. Love it.
I still get surprised when I hear about the games other than Armored Core that were developed by From Software pre-Soulsborne Ring. I remember a PS2 game called The Adventures of Cookie and Cream and when I brought it up to my friends who've never heard of it I went "wait, FROMSOFT made this?".
Good stuff man, glad to see you explore this awesome franchise
mannnn i wanna play a new game of this so bad can yall put that that elden ring money to good use
It wasn't released in the west because Capcom and FromSoft thought the game would be too hard. I mean, look, you got beaten by a Velocidrome.
I like the idea that Miyazaki was stressing out about whatever problem the team was facing with whatever their latest game was at the time and when he got a call from Capcom about making the 3DS game, he immediately dropped whatever the team was doing and made that game. It's a funny thought, even if it's most likely that he wasn't the director of the MHD games.
From Software made 3D Dot Games Heroes, so they like doing cute and funny stuff too.
I remember fully completing this one around 9-7 years ago without any translations. There were quite a few quests, each cat had relation meter and they gave you their costume when you managed to shower them with gifts. Tons of upgrades for town. Bonfire/oven parties (truly a dark souls of monster hunter), you could visit friend's world and go on hunts with them (i forced some of my friends to play it). I knew every item, every mention of every NPC, every gift preference, felt like i could read dialogues despite not knowing japanese. All of that knowledge is lost now and booting up my old save i go "th is that?" for almost eveything.
Hardest monster hunter game frfr.
Also, i think i understand the cat minigame in 4u and the village end credits was a reference to now.
not only is this video epic its the perfect length to watch a funny video while i eat
very good video! i like the flow and pace of your videos, and your voice is very relaxing, probably gonna binge your channel at 3AM tonight lol
Imagine is they made an actual dark souls MH game, it would join both massive community’s , just like how MH World did
Great video. It was surprising for me as an Elden Ring player but cute and it made me laugh quite a few times. Thanks!
I think this is a testament to FromSoftware's ingenuity; they can make a good quality game regardless of genre.
I remember trying to play this game years ago. I really only got past the little tutorial thing. It was really just so I could have the bonuses that came from having a save data of the game for I think it was portable 3rd.
I've known about this game for some time now but I really wished there was a English patch or something for it.
Hope perhaps one day some group of people will kindly translate this game
Wow, I didn't know this. Thanks for showcasing this bizarre yet interesting fact
I actually have an Airou keychain, lol. This game looks so cute, I would have loved to experience it myself
Wait what!? Am I the only one who saw this and initially thought this was about Animal Crossing?
Excited to play this now that you've probably made some people interested in translating it.
3:35, since this game came out before dark souls, that means this is the 1st fromsoft game with a bonfire
Js this would absolutely sell like hot cakes here in the west
It breaks my heart I can't play this >.< I love town-sim games. :( Are there no translation packs?
That dance animation is godlike
Rumour is Fromsoft will be making a big announcement at the game awards...get ready for Poka Poka 2 baby!
I have seen your videos as suggestions for some time now, never new the gokd stuff i was missing out on.
Keep up the good work mate.
This game is essentially Cult of the Lamb with a Monster Hunter theme
Need a game like this, NOW! It's grind intensive like darksouls
So From Software also made "The Adventures of cookies and Cream"... A game where you control 2 cute animals to get to the end of the game
The Onion knights of Catarina would of been perfect cameos for this game.
Dang, I certainly did not know about this lol. I'm glad it did well!
10 years before that From Software made Cookies and Cream! The CUTEST GAME ever made!
i played this a lot when i was 10 😭 it was like animal crossing with a side of MH quests but every villager is a cat including YOU! i played it everyday.
How???
@@vi0let831 my mom bought it for me, i played it on the psp.
Thank u for bringing this to my attention
I guess the Ancient Dragons in Elden Ring is inspired by White Fatalis
I love Felyne/Palicoes. They're so wonderfully derpy and resilient.
the true collab we need is dark souls x monster hunter diaries.
just have some cute cats roam around firelink shrine and farm firebombs for u.
So its basically animal crossing but in the Monster Hunter universe, never thought fromsoft made something so cute.
Look up their game, The Adventures of Cookie and Cream.
I was expecting a Soul Sacrifice video but this is fine too.
I desperately hope that someday somebody makes a fan translation of this game. How could you NOT make a fan translation of this game, LOOK AT IT.
Oh! I remember seeing a trailer of the 3DS version during an old Nintendo Direct! :D I'm still mad the series never made it to the west.. ;-;
An Animal Crossing collab with a Monster Hunter spin off on PSP? I find that kinda hard to believe.
As a Hello Kitty girl that Sanrio collab made me drop everything to find a monster hunter Sanrio plushie
This is not what I expected when I thought of the collaboration of my two favorite game series.
Thanks for the info! I actually found a copy of this at a pawnshop (recognized the Poogies and immediately bought LOL), and was curious what kind of game it was, so thanks! Think i may break out the translator myself now lol!
7:16 Well, that was very unexpected from Nintendo, especially on rival console at the time.
I've seen clips of this game long ago, glad to know what it was great video.
imagine picking this game up not knowing a thing about it seeing fromsoftware in the intro credits.
What you said: Only released in Japan.
What I heard: Either purchase it second hand from NOT eBay or Amazon or get it in Turtle Island 🏴☠️
just wanted to mention there is an anime of this game, not monster hunter but monster hunter diary, it's cute
a switch port of this would be the absolute dream
They should make a gritty Soulslike in this art style
It should be stated that the Fromsoft we know today is nothing like the old Fromsoft. This is do to the leadership swap from Naotoshi Zin, to Hidetaka Miyazaki. Miyazaki getting the chance to make both Demons Souls and Dark Souls was pretty slim. Demons Souls was birthed from a directionless game Miyazaki became the director of. After the failure of Demons Souls, Dark Souls stood little to no chance of getting green lit, yet it did. Its subsequent success lead Fromsoft into what we know and love today.
