The quality of his molds, and the finished slipcast mugs, are impeccable. However i agree with you that he is just too fussy, but that is not for the cameras, that's just him and how he works. It's very interesting to see but i find him hard to watch. A friend who can't watch him either summed it up perfectly. He's just too animated and over the top. And like you said, he's not teaching anybody anything wrong in his videos but he's making it look a lot harder than it needs to be. And just FYI, those keys you mentioned on the bottom piece of the mold near the straps, he uses those to pop some pliers in there to help help separate the mold pieces after he's poured a cast.
