Though there isn’t an actual music video for “Tank,” the NMIXX Debut Trailer sorta serves as an abbreviated version of one, since it has wholly unique visuals that weren’t used for other videos or promotions. I fall into the camp of preferring “Tank” to “O.O,” but I think, strategically, the right song was chosen as the debut single. If they’d gone with “Tank,” instead, I think one could argue the vibe would’ve hewed too close to Itzy’s, thus failing to strongly differentiate NMIXX from their direct predecessor.
The marketing campaign for their debut was fascinating, as well. Back before any members or concept was announced, they opened AND CLOSED preorders for a “Blind Package” for “your new favorite girl group.” This was all before even the JYPn pre-debut showcase videos (which are highly, highly recommended). You just had to trust JYPE’s reputation as “king of girl groups” and lay down your money, sight unseen, sound unheard. (In reality, in spite of the stunt limited ordering period, because stores bulk ordered stock, they were still available to purchase past the “official” pre-order close date.)
Tank lyrics is directly addressing the issue that would come from NMIXX releasing O.O, the first verse from Lily & Haewon is translate as: "Who dat? The veil is finally coming off, Thanks for waitin'. Hi there, when they look at me, everyone is in panic How is it, do you expect it?" So this mean they already expect the backlash and man this song was Lit!.
You know what’s crazy? coz TANK can also form as failure, This song predicted what’s gonna happen to their debut song O.O , as i said on your last reaction on NMIXX - O.O, the lyrics says it all, heres my explanation in some lines of the song: “Who dat? The veil is finally coming off Thanks for waitin” - So when JYPE announced its new GG which is NMIXX alot of people got intrigued and excited coz b4 debuting this group JYPE released an individual performances (JYPn Qualifying) of each member to showcase how talented each memeber of this group has and since then after many fans watch those videos fans had high expectations for this group and their debut song. “Hi there, when they look at me, everyone is in panic, How is it, do you expect it?” - now after they release their debut song they receive a lot of backlash (plagiarism, weird song, hate etc) people literally PANIC bcoz after their JYPn Qualifying prople expect so high bcoz of the talent that this group has “It will sting at first Yeah, those eyes (O.O) Don't let anything bad happen” - and yes we all agreed that at first listen we were like O.O (confused of what just happen) “it will sting at first” and we can’t deny the fact that at first listen we got confused BUT after a few listen people starting to love the song, some says that O.O label as the worst debut song of 2022 but now if you watch some award shows, kcon, etc this song is high requested by audience like if NMIXX comes to a concert people shouting O.O for them to perform it.
