- In the final round of the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic, Rickie Fowler shot 4-under 68 and birdied the first playoff hole for his sixth career win on the PGA TOUR and first since the 2019 WM Phoenix Open.

The PGA TOUR heads to Detroit, Michigan, this week for the fifth installment of the Rocket Mortgage Classic at Detroit Golf Club. Last year’s champion Tony Finau returns to defend his record-setting title. Finau finished with a score of 26-under-par to break the tournament scoring record by three shots, posting just one bogey on the week. He’ll be accompanied by an in-form Rickie Fowler in the field. He’s finished inside the top-13 in his last four events, including a T5 finish at the U.S. Open, setting the U.S. Open single-round scoring record in round one. Justin Thomas will also be teeing it up this week in Detroit. He snapped back into form at the Travelers Championship after achieving his first top-10 since mid-March at the Valspar Championship. Only winner Keegan Bradley made more birdies at the Travelers, as he closed with a 64-62-67 in his final three rounds. Tom Kim will also like his chances this week after he finished T8 at the U.S. Open in Los Angeles. Turning 21 years old last week in Connecticut, he posted rounds of 64 and 65 to finish T38. The Korean debuted here last summer and matched the course record (63) on Sunday to finish solo seventh. Max Homa, Hideki Matsuyama, Collin Morikawa and Keegan Bradley will also be shooting for top spot in Detroit.

I followed Rick in Detroit on Saturday, and over the years since the Rocket Mortgage began. Absolutely the crowd favorite at the tournament, so stoked to see him win it. “Let’s go Rick!!!”
I wanted Colin Morikawa to win, Ricky doesn't deserve it.

Ricky has played so well after the past month. He came so close in recent months. He played well enough during the PGA Championship he deserved to win. This win looked in doubt but in the end he did what he had to do coming into the 18 green in regular play and during the playoff. His iron play made the difference.

I remember when Rickie first started to gain popularity on the tour he got some backlash for the fits he wore on the course. Certain people were judging him as being flashy and cocky b/c of his clothes lol Rickie has always been nothing but a class act and a good person. Whether he’s got his game or he’s struggling he has always stayed true to himself. Signing autographs for fans no matter if he won or was cut. Its why we all have love for him. Couldn’t be happier for the dude!

I loved his reaction( or lack of reaction) after the winning putt went in. He soaked it all in and seemed very, very relieved to get the win.

I was there working as a volunteer. I saw Ricky stumble a bit on hole 14 & 15 missing makeable putts. But fortunately he birdied the 18 hole to join the playoff with Colin & Adam. Then an amazing recovery shot on playoff to setup birdie for the win.

You can tell what kind of guy Hadwin is as he’s in the background clapping for his competitor after the putt went in! Same goes for Rickie, cause like my grandpa used to say, “to get respect, you must be respectful” and while we’re here, “for every action there’s a reaction” “respect your elders” “never judge a book by its cover” the lines is which I’ve always lived my life! What made this so cool is remember at the time was that, he was so clutch, you could feel the confident desperation he was playing with, he worked so hard to get there he was not going to let it slip. TWICE came up clutch

Absolutely....You could feel the happiness from his caddy when he drained the putt too. People don't know, or they don't even think about, most of us anyways, the lonely nights at the range, the bad shots, the great shots etc...and then the heartbreaks that tear into their heart really, creating scars that they have to overcome as they come down the stretch when they haven't won for so long. I'm pretty sure just about everyone is happy to see Ricky win again.
That shot was absolutely world class. A Tiger-like shot under pressure from a sub optimal tee shot. Sticks it.

A great win that was well deserved, despite "the commentator's curse" at around 3 minutes, when he said that Rickie had not missed a fairway. Rickie then put his next 2 shots in bunkers! Some great recovery shots earned him the win though.

My only encounter with Rickie was at the 2015 Prez Cup in Korea. It was on a green and someone's approach shot ended up missing and went in the rough. For some odd reason a worker on that green proceeded to pick up the ball (yes - this is exactly how it unfolded) and the hundreds of fans behind the ropes all gasped in shock, and the girl immediately realized she made a boo-boo. Rickie happened to be there and quickly asked the gal, "did you place the ball back to where it was" to which she replied yes. And he reassured her by saying, "everything is fine, no need to worry." He was probably THE only one in the crowd of more than a few hundred who had that mindset. What a public display of compassion shown by Rickie...and what a pose of humility after his clinching birdie putt - hands folded and very unassuming. I'm from Detroit and so thrilled that his 4 year drought ended in Motown. I was in college during the Bad Boys run - Rickie reminds me a lot of a guy named Joe Dumars. Old school temperament and humble behavior that is tough to find from athletes today. Congrats Rickie!!!
