I doubt they disliked it because of that. I would dislike the video because the drumming doesn't fit my taste. Yes the kid has chops that are really impressive but it doesn't groove or feel real at all and that's why I don't like it. Congrats to him for mastering and perfecting his chops but I wouldn't say that playing really fast and basically drowning out the rest of the musicians with your chops makes you a good drummer.

If there was an Olympic gold medal for drumming endurance, speed, and gymnastics he would win the prize. I guess this is what sell cymbals and drums today! No disrespect to Lil D … great drummer, amazing chops. When you are young show the fire and he did! But is this where the drumming world is at today? What happened to taste and musicality? Okay … Haters can hate me now … but I know some of you agree.
If he was an adult I'd agree, but he got time on his side, cut the kid some slack

@@earldrum It's all about context. This was him doing an exhibition of skills, showing the amount of stuff he has in his wheelhouse. It's far easier for a drummer who's way above the required skill threshold to dial it down to a level that's more tasteful for the music they're writing and write a great piece, than for a drummer that settled at a lower level of technical proficiency to do something that's beyond their capabilities.
Just because a drummer has an incredible amount of technical proficiency doesn't mean they can't also play with taste and groove and musicality - they're not mutually exclusive, and there are some drummers I've seen who have technical proficiency way beyond what most think of them given the bands they're in. I mean, some of the bigger names in rap have the craziest gospel chops drummers going, but you'd never know it, because they dial it back and write pieces that fit.
This was an exhibition of him as a drummer, and he's a young fellow with crazy chops. Would what he played here be appropriate as a session drummer? No. For this video though? Nothing wrong with it. Can't evaluate everything by how it would fit in a specific musical context.
@@FritoBanditoMusicVideos I guess I hit that nerve. Oh well, I’m not asking for an endorsement and I don’t care much about challenging a kid to drum duel! Drum duels are ridiculous! But if drumming is a sport this kid wins in my book! Oh that was my point! Sporting events sell products of course endorsements go to the person that can help sell the products. That’s my point. I love Paiste cymbals that’s why I play them … but I’m not a fan of drumming that as a sport. Oh, that’s my opinion. My opinion and $4 will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks in the right city in the US!
