"The Christian is a man who knows in whom he has believed. He is able to give a reason for the hope that is in him. He rejoices in the truth. He rejoices in the Lord Jesus Christ with a joy unspeakable and full of glory. And he is doing his utmost to be holy because God is holy." ―Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
"And he is doing his utmost to be holy because God is holy." 😅 Is God doing "his utmost" to be holy? Of course not. Then what type of holiness might such a one be that is attained and presumably maintained by men through their "utmost" effort? Would it not be by definition man made? And would such an effort not be based on the man's hope of "BEING LIKE GOD" (Genesis 3:5)? I am astonished that this type of thinking has been given such a foothold among Christianity.
