Save Live Mode As A Regular Program for Safe Keeping: Nord Keyboards

- Many of you use “Live Mode” while at a performance where you tweak your favorite “go-to” sounds for immediate access. In this video, I demonstrate how to preserve your Live Mode settings into a standard program for safe-keeping and reference in the event you ever want to capture your settings permanently on the keyboard. This comes in handy if you accidentally ruin your Live Mode settings (which is not hard to do at times).

New Nord user here. This video is so helpful. Thank you.
@kennethHuo Glad to hear it! Which Nord did you get?
Great videos man! I appreciate all the help! My Electro 6D 73 Semi Weighted just came today and your videos has helped a lot!
@ZechariahAbdeh Glad to hear this. Are you still enjoying the Nord Electro 6? I should have mentioned I have a master class on the Nord Electro 6 if interested... www.MyKeysToMusic.com
Thank you for all your content. I repeatedly have questions and you always have a video that answers them. I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your videos, your details, your ease of conveying how to do something. You are the best! THANK YOU!
@Malderine thanks for leaving a comment and for your enthusiasm around learning! I took the liberty to briefly check out your channel and see that you are a very creative artist and a multi instrumentalist! Keep up the good work! I also noticed that you use an Electro 5 which was the keyboard workhorse for me for many years during many gigs. All the best to you and your music/art.
@@MyKeysToMusic I'm glad you enjoyed some of my stuff! I actually ended up selling that one and replaced it with a Stage 3. I couldn't handle not having fully weighted keys!
@@Malderine , I get that! The NS3 is a very powerful board, and it's a nice upgrade from the NE5. The NS3 has a ton of sounds, too, out there in the wild.
@@MyKeysToMusic I don't even feel like I have scratched the surface on this NS3!!! Your videos have really helped me. Now I just need time to explore the settings. Again thank you for your videos! I recently just figured out the song setting and program up and down with the boss pedal. You are a gig saver! :)
@@Malderine So happy to hear that! Enjoy your baby!
Love the sample patch 0:38 @mykeystomusic! Now Keith Emerson can save his live sets safely.
Haha Jefe - great ears you have!! (and great taste too I might add). Thanks for stopping by and leaving a nice comment.
great content. I'm looking forward to the video where you peel off the sticker about downloading Nord sounds
Haha - this actually had me laughing out loud. I think I'm going to keep the stickers on there just because you said this now. 😀 Thanks for watching me close enough to notice those things... More to come
So helpful OMG . Thank you
@reiobleumas Glad it was helpful!
This was useful. Thanks!
Thank you - glad you liked it!
Such a massive help, Marc. THANKS!
Thank you MonsterJazzLicks! Oh, and I plan on getting to your good questions in the community pages of the training videos at www.MyKeysToMusic.com soon too... - Marc
@@MyKeysToMusic no problem. all the best Marc
great as always
Thanks David! Always nice to hear from you...
Thank for share 🙏🏻🙏🏻❤
Happy to do it - thanks for the comment!
There really should be a soft key combination for a standard (on most synths) "undo" function. Also, i assumed there were pages for live mode & not simply 5 slots. Maybe that was Song Mode.
@dare2win215 Good observations and points about all this. There is a soft undo when you organize programs with the NS3, but not much else. And yes, only 5 live slots. The NS4 increases that to 8 Live slots FYI.
@@MyKeysToMusic Thanks. I have the NP5, which doesn't get much coverage. I've posted a request list on the Nord forum that's pretty intensive, but, IMO, practical-ish. I love my Piano, but definitely wish there were some basic midi implementation-I'm not requesting functionality found on other models, but some things I really believe would make the NP a fantastic main controller. Anywho. I appreciate the video & reply
@@Daring2Win I have the Piano 5 as well and plan to do a course with that next year. There is a need now for tutorials since the ones previously supplied have been marked "private" likely because they were once provided by their former UK distributor. When I get to that, I'll have to see what MIDI options are available. I can say that with the Nord Stage 4, the MIDI offering is the most they've ever done. They have the know-how - it's just a matter of how far they want to go on a given board, I think.
I have an older NORD Electro 4D (doesn't have the nice screen). Can I save an organ setting in much the same way? Appreciate any direction. Thank you!
@raincells Hello Bob! Yes, you can absolutely do this with the Nord Electro 4. It defines this a bit in the manual under the area of "Saving a Program" and "Live Mode"
Is Live mode basically an area to keep your top 4 presets that you want to play on at a gig! (Assuming you only need a few channels and you’re not creating a set list in bank W as an example) Thanks for video
@acanova2001 Yes, many people think of "Live Mode" as a "favorites" list, although I don't think that was the original intent exactly. However combined with the fact (described in this video) that you can take a given program and push it to Live Mode ahead of a gig, then yes, that for sure becomes a favorites list. Then, if you need any "tweaking" to the sound at one gig or another, the Live Mode stores the sound immediately without committing it to a permanent program since the adjustments may ONLY apply to that one gig (based on EQ, if you are playing inside or out, the type of PA used, size of the location, etc.)
@@MyKeysToMusic thanks I also like the idea of saving a copy of presets out in bank Q or in the empty space in sets of 4. Only had this unit a week it’s awesome.
@@acanova2001 You have the right idea about how to manage the onboard set lists. When you're ready to take things to the next level, be sure to check out my website for free and paid pro courses for your new baby! www.MyKeysToMusic.com I have over 26 hours of unique and exclusive content for the Nord Stage 4 in my pro course where you'll learn every last detail in an add-free environment.
@@MyKeysToMusic thanks I’m not quite ready yet to start gigging. I’m the lead guitar player in my band but there are so many songs I’d like to do with keys. Im starting to learn some of the songs we do already on keys and they sound great switching back and forth.
@@acanova2001 Fantastic! There seem to be quite a few players these days that handle both guitar and keys. In fact, there is a rich history of multi-instrumentalist handling these two axes in rock music (so you are in good company):
1 Prince - Known for his incredible versatility across multiple instruments, Prince often showcased his skills on keyboards and guitar.
2 Paul McCartney - Although primarily recognized as a bassist and singer with The Beatles, McCartney is proficient in many instruments, including guitar and keyboards.
3 Eddie Van Halen - Renowned for his guitar skills, Eddie also played keyboards, especially notable in some of Van Halen's hits like "Jump."
4 John Paul Jones - As a member of Led Zeppelin, he was known for his bass and keyboard playing but also played guitar on several tracks.
5 Ray Manzarek - Famous as the keyboardist for The Doors, Manzarek also handled some of the guitar duties, particularly on live performances.
6 Todd Rundgren - A multi-instrumentalist known for his prolific songwriting and production, Rundgren plays guitar and keyboards among other instruments.
7 Dave Grohl - Known primarily for his drumming with Nirvana and guitar/vocals with Foo Fighters, Grohl also plays keyboards on some tracks.
8 Mike Rutherford - As a founding member of Genesis, Rutherford played both guitar and bass guitar, as well as keyboards on several albums.
9 Steve Winwood - Starting his career with the Spencer Davis Group, Winwood is adept at guitar but is best known for his keyboard work.
10 Geddy Lee - last but not least, Geddy holds down the bass guitar but is not shy at the keys either!
So I could take this one step further and store these to a song then? Also do I need to save each live set sound like this or once I save one it saves the 5?😊
Hello @88omarz Yes and no. A song is a list of locations that each point back to an existing program. Think of it as an "index" of programs rather than a separate location where you can store programs themselves. So, if you save your live sounds to a program, that program can be added to a song list.
As to your other question, you have to save each of the 5 live locations individually each to its own program. Hope that helps!
@@MyKeysToMusic got it. Makes perfect sense. Thank you.
Hi Marc, I tried this out on my NS3 exactly like you did, but the 5 Live patches would not return to their original state if I edited the patch in Live Mode....any suggestions? Many thanks
Hello @Loucas Hajiantoni - sorry for the late response. This is strange. Your keyboard should work just like mine. Perhaps try updating the OS (for good measure) ruclips.net/video/bkPAmWBnF5c/видео.html. After that, walk through my video again step by step - you should have the same exact results every time.
