My Grandmother came from Poland in the 1800s when she was 15 years old and was wed in an arranged marriage to a Montana lumberjack. Eventually, she ended up in Detroit. When I was 12 years old, in 1952, I discovered that she had a 78 rpm record of this piece played by Paderewski. It was my introduction to classical music. I pretty much wore out that record and it is my favorite piece followed by the scherzo in C Sharp minor. There is a you tube video of Paderewski playing this Polonaise in an art-deco concert hall about 1937 or so. I don't have have the ear or knowledge to compare the two performances but I do love them both. By the way, I was born with the last name of Czajkowski. My father changed our family name to Adams when I was four years old. He wanted us to be Americans.
This performance takes me back to 1955 when I played the Heroic Polonaise in a piano contest which I managed to win. Instead of pursuing a career in music, however, I became a trial lawyer. Today, at age 82, I continue to practice law. But now I want to retire and travel, especially to Russia from which I just returned a week ago after visiting friends in Kostroma.
Amazing! I have never before heard a pianist who is so technically precise and yet still gives the most emotionally charged performances ever! I love watching your hands move across the keys in a mathematically precise way. I'm completely stunned at several points in your performances as I watch your fingers make the music come to life! Another favourite of mine.
My dearests, thank you for watching! Please, don't forget to like and to comment - it's so great to get a feedback! I make my videos for you - subscribe to keep me motivated;-) Thankful, Anastasia
Merci Anastasia de nous émerveiller à chaque morceau ! Cette Polonaise est une des œuvres de Chopin les plus difficiles à jouer. Et vous l'interprétez remarquablement. :)
Absolutely superb playing ... Anastasia, you have a wonderful feel for the music of Chopin - your tasteful use of rubato is exactly what the music needs to "breath" - without feeling overly constrained or too metronomic. This has to be one of the best "live" recordings that I've had the pleasure of hearing. Thank you, so much, for posting it - you are a gem!
It´s hard to explain what music does in one´s heart! But I can say that when I listen to Anastasia Huppmann playing so beautifully... I am moved towards another dimension of time. I feel peace of mind and become extremely happy.
Beautifully performed! I really enjoy seeing your passion as you bring the music to life! Your video producer deserves a round of applause for capturing that drama.
The amount of fine pianistic control, greater phrasing’s, subtle passage artistry, other inspired performance aspects and setting etc are rapturously numerous!!!
You are between my sons in age. I am elated to see and hear people of your generation keeping the rich legacy of western "classical" music alive and well-nurtured.
What a left hand! I know I know, of course there is so much more. The verve Ms. Huppman shows when she plays is my delight. I say--no music without emotion!!
Oh, I dont like rushing too, but must addmit that Argerich's record of this piece is one of my favs. Actually, I do like pretty much everyrthing she plays, its always a little rushed but she has such a technique, impeccable phrasing and discinct playing in every way... and I like this piece a little more forte at the begining.
Anastasia Huppmann, as a long time worshipper of the music of Chopin I find your interpretations magical. Frederic once said of Liszt, "I wish I could steal from him the manner in which he plays my music". Frederic would have admired your performances, I am sure.
Maestra Huppmann, I have long loved the Romantic composers like Chopin, Liszt, et. al. As I continue to listen intently to your playing I am continually filled with joy and happiness! Your artistry and musicality is absolutely sublime to the ear and heart. Thank you for the great richness and uniqueness to your craft.
You are a genius. Very original and sensitive. What a master. You really know the precise tempo in each interpretation, no matter others pianist are doing. And you know what? You are totally right.
I was very young, when for the first time, I heard this piece of music... and I always had it in mind. Thank you Anastasia, for this delicious moment! 😊
Not bad for a rehearsal Anastasia. The "change of direction" at 6.48 is magnificent Chopin genius. I often wonder as to my favorite bits amongst his jewels of sound but it's usually the one I'm listening to at the time. I truly hope you see in Chopin all that I do. I don't believe you could play his music so well without doing so.
Wow...she played this perfectly! Reserved, but with such emotion - just like the composer himself! My breath is taken aback. Thank you so much for playing this, if you read these things. Dynamics are flawless; she takes the right amount of time. All notes are crystal clear. And what do I know? I'm sorry. I'm just blown away from hearing this.
Amazing job! your interpretation is really sincere! (not like the many plastic and I-can-do-it-fast that are around). I hope you keep uploading videos :) Thanks for sharing!
J'adore cette musique ! Et ! Grace à une telle musicienne ! Je peux me faire plaisir à écouter une splendeur joué par ' UN ANGE DE LA MUSIQUE ' , UN DELICE - UN REGAL POUR MES OREILLES ET . . . .= MON COEUR ! Merci la ' BELLE ' et ! Bravo ! Vous m'emportez au paradis avec une telle musique si bien jouée ! ! !
It was his longing for everything Polish.. as he fled during an uprising. It was his last will and testament that his heart be brought back to Poland. After his death.. his heart was delivered to Poland and is installed within a column in a church in Warsaw.
I think I first heard it on radio (WGMS, classical station in DC), from a recording by Arthur Rubinstein. Might've been the (Chopin) sesquicentennial in 1960, not sure; anyway, it was around then.

Love this piece. Always one of my favorites. You play it with unreal skill and emotion. Thank you...PS love how you spread your arms at the end as if to say, 'flawless...' :)

Гениальный Шопен и великолепное исполнение. БРАВО!!!
This is my favorite version of this piece, because she didn’t rush through it like many pianists do.

MAGISTRAL!
🙏🏻
You are the greatest! I first heard this piece on a Philco in 1953, 78 rpm played by Jose Eiterbi Iguana
I think I first heard it on radio (WGMS, classical station in DC), from a recording by Arthur Rubinstein.
Might've been the (Chopin) sesquicentennial in 1960, not sure; anyway, it was around then.
It was a little rushed, maybe is the spooks in the empty concert hall. or maybe I just like the LeGrande style, as in Michelle
Iguana
played this when i was 15. but it didnt have the power as this woman playing it. but i played it again for a girl i liked when i was 29. played it like a master
Steven C sounds that you got lucky 😉
