The first shower after major surgery is a milestone. As a patient it seems like it will be impossible to accomplish but once it's done, you feel so proud of yourself, and of course you feel so much better. Human again!
All us PIPS (Paul in Perth's Care Team) are here and sending us our best wishes. He has been through much physically and mentally. So glad he has such a wonderful friend Caroline. Hearing Paul may be discharged in near future is awesome news!
Thank you once again Caroline for the update. You are doing a fabulous job taking care of Paul and keeping us all up to date with his progress and I do hope you are taking care of yourself too as you must be feeling tired and very stressed out watching Pauls difficult journey. It was so nice to see Paul sitting outside getting some fresh air and having a change of scenery. I will be keeping my fingers crossed that you both get home very soon. Sending love & light to you both 🐰
Very difficult times for you both. You are an angel standing by your Paul. Much love. Hopefully things will change very soon for the better and energy restored and home soon. Nice to see you Paul , and hear you are on the mend! Hugs, healing hugs and much love.
"Still going, still alive." Those words make me want to get up and make a difference. I always feel inspired by the fight you have, every day means everything. Best wishes from Scotland.
Thank you for the update. You’re right. I was in hospital close to 2 months this year (cancer related bypass). I had ONE shower. It was only when I told them to stop visitors because I smelled so badly that a very kind nursing assistant helped me get to a shower. I was told by a doctor that, as in life, the squeaky wheel gets the grease
Pierrette, are you by chance from Alabama? I had a friend named Pierrette, and I thought her last name was Hebert. Wouldn't that be a trip? I'm so sorry you've been going through so much, that must've been hell. Sending you gentle hugs new/old friend, and healing prayers 🤍🙏🕊
I'm glad to get the update, Caroline. Thanks for looking after the handsome chap in his poncho. One step at a time. Seeing Paul at the end made my Sunday, especially his positivity. Speedy recovery buddy.
Paul, you are such a strong man to be able to keep facing these medical challenges. You have an inner strength that keeps not only you going, but your followers hanging right there with you. I'm curious when you are well enough to leave the hospital, how long the doctors will want you to stay in Brezzina House. Caroline, you're absolutely right about hospital patients needing an advocate to help them with personal care issues. Anyone who's had a long hospital stay will agree that personal care is somewhat ignored by busy hospital staff, so having a friend or family member there to help the patient keep those issues from being ignored is so important. Kudos for bringing that up with everyone. It's so important for every patient's well-being. Hugs and continued well wishes to you both...❤ Thelma (USA)
Sending Paul continued strength and fortitude. Sending Caroline all the love because being a carer is both the most rewarding and the most challenging role. You are BOTH loved.
You are a true warrior, Paul! You inspire everyone around you and have an enormous impact on all of our lives! You and Caroline are deeply loved and appreciated by all of your YT family! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ From Joan in the USA.
You bring up a good point about hygiene in the hospital. I wasn't able to shower this past week, and when I was able to clean up using wet wipes, it was amazing how much better I felt. I think it helps the patient emotionally as well as physically. Thank you for all that you are doing. Much love to you!!
Thank you Caroline for the comprehensive update. Gosh Paul is really challenged with his recovery but his strong mind and wonderful support from you is getting him through. Sending love and hugs for continued healing to you both. xx
Paul and Caroline, so happy to see you both. I continue to think about you both often. Praying for your recovery, Paul and praying for your continued patience and love Caroline. ❤
Thank you Caroline for all these updates. It cannot be easy for you to set your emotions aside to provide these really concise and informative posts. Lifting you and Paul up in my prayers. ❤️🙏🏻🕯🙏🏻❤️

Glad to see you outside in the fresh air Paul. Keep recovering!❤from Wisconsin, USA. Caroline: you are doing such an amazing job. Remember to take for yourself as well. Big hugs!
Caroline, it didnt occur to me that one’s life partner could be a friend, not a spouse, until I witnessed your friendship with Paul. Thank you very much for teaching me this. I love, love what you two have for each other. And Paul… you are such an inspiration. I realize that the alternative was probably an earlier death, but taking on this journey knowing how hard it could be or even harder than imagined and still having a smile on your face, even for the photos:), while living the hardship, is a what I call inspiration. Walking the walk and even though we cant choose to have or not have a good attitude, seeing you having this attitude just gives me inspiration for the hardships that may await me in the future. Love to you both ❤❤
Thanks, Caroline. I'm happy to hear that Paul is doing better. Lots of prayers for both Paul and you. Every human being should have a friend like you. My hats off to you.
Paul I have been following you for say 8 to 10 months now and when I first watched you on RUclips you were showing all of us how to repair a Mazda 3 rear end sway bar links.I now that in the future you will be back at it and showing all of us your in-depth knowledge on cars that I am sure of stay positive and strong we all on You tube are rooting for you !
Thanks ,Caroline ❤ You are a tremendous wonderful friend to your pal paul 👍 ❤ nice updates, and nice to see paul doing so well ❤ blessings from Florida 🙌🌴🌴
Thanks for the update. Overall, good news. It is tough coming back from the trauma of surgery. It can mess with your mind as do the medications. He will feel better once he can eat solid food. Glad that he is not in significant pain. What you said about taking a shower is right on. Sending healing vibes and love your way.
Caroline, thanks so much for the update. Sounds like things are heading in a positive direction, so this news is very welcome to hear. Paul, just remember that you got through a lot worse the first time around, and you will soon be perking up once they kick you out of hospital 😊All of us are thankful that you've been able to come so far and thankful also for the team that is caring for you. We love you both! ❤❤❤
Thanks, Caroline. I'm glad to see Paul going in the right direction. You are such a sweet, caring friend. Paul, glad to see that beautiful little smile. ❤❤
I am glad making progress in his getting back to himself!!!! Thank you so much Caroline for update and you are wonderful friend the Paul. Tell Paul to take care of himself and take it one day at time and that he has got it!!!!!
Thank you so much Caroline for the update. Great job as usual. So incredibly happy that Paul is on the mend. We love you both and praying always . 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Seeing this little smile on Paul‘s face made my day. Thank you so much for taking the time to update, Caroline. My heart goes out to you both. Hopefully you can go back to Perth soon and get some rest. Much love and good vibes all the way from Germany ❤Bettina
Dear sweet Paul. Forgive me for not writing in a while. I’ve had issues away from home that demanded my time. So sorry to hear you have been through some abscess issues in your abdomen. It does sound like you are doing much better. Not that the pain is less, however. Here’s to your complete healing. Sending healing hugs. Thank you Caroline for all your TLC to Paul. He is so lucky to have a friend like you. 💕 Marcia
Thank you for the update Caroline. I hope things continue to improve for Paul and I hope you are taking care of yourself as well. I know how tough it can be to be the caregiver❤
Thank you Caroline for the I depth update. Great suggestion about offering to help a person in the hospital with personal care. Eons ago hospitals had aides that offered this service daily, now you are lucky to get a warm cloth to wipe your face. Good to see Paul at the end. Prayers to both of you.
Oh Sweet Paul....I had my own experience with the NG (Nasal Gastric) Tube. I thought of you as soon as I realized what they were about to do. Thank goodness I only had it for about 24hrs. I feel for you for having it for so long. So glad that they took yours out as well. Praying for you!!!! Sending love and hugs!
Thank you for the update Caroline. I hope Paul keeps improving and he can get back to his happy self. Thank you for taking good care care of Paul's mental health.
Thanks Caroline that was a lot to report. God's continued blessings to you both. You are a power couple! Paul it's good to see that inspiring smile again.❤❤❤❤❤❤ for you two wonderful people.
Hi Caroline, happy to hear from you. It seems Paul has had some challenges over the past week, but encouraged to see he is recovering slowly. You look a bit weary Caroline, try to get some rest when you can. Paul I am sending much love, hugs and wishes that all continues to improve. Take care Paul and Caroline. 💕💕
Thank you for the update, Caroline! And for taking such good care of Paul. ❤ And Paul, it was nice to see you on the playground. You'll be in fine shape soon to go down that slide if you want to! 💪🏼
Keep resting! It's still crazy out here in the world! Your missing nothing!! ❤❤❤ Hi Caroline! I know is boring there - please keep in mind restlessness sure is part of the healing process- so very frustrating!! Know we are all hanging in here with YOU Gentile Warrior Paul!!! ❤❤❤
Great to see you walking and fighting, Paul! You can do it! Just picture all of us supporting you in the background. Having Caroline by your side is amazing, and I know you realize this, and appreciate her so much. May you continue to make good progress.
It's been a long and slow recovery with some bumps along the way, but I m so glad Paul is continuing to gradually improve ! If his back pain is bothersome, maybe he can get a TENS machine temporarily and have heat/ice to alleviate it? Hospital beds can be rather awful and long hours spent in them don't help! It's great to see Paul up and walking, enjoying the hygiene and even getting cranky moments...all promising signs! Keep it up, hoping the drain is removed very soon. Looking forward to the next update, with tons of healing wishes in the meantime! Hugs to you both.
Thank you once again dear Caroline for your latest update on Paul. This being the second of 2 major surgeries and a whoopsee with the perf in the stomach wall, Paul is fighting the good fight and I am sure he will get through all of this. A slow process, but he is truly a remarkable man. Thank you for being such an Angel and a pillar of support to Paul. Much love to you both ❤️
You got this Paul , we love you 🥰🥰🙏🏾. Caroline you are an inspiration. Every time we think we’re a good person , a Caroline came along ,remind us there’s room for more growth, you’re amazing lady ❤️❤️🙏🏾.
Oh Paul, don't apologize! Your first priority is recovering! Caroline, as usual you are THE BEST friend anyone could have. I enjoyed the picture of you in the sun, feeling the warmth of sunshine on my face is such a blessing. We love you both.
♥️♥️♥️Thanks so much for the update Carolyn. You are truly an angel here on earth. Sending healing vibes and hugs to you and Paul. ❤❤❤God bless you Paul❤❤❤I hope his stomach complications heal completely very soon. So glad he was allowed to get a shower and get out of bed per dr orders. Great point about Paul hopefully being allowed by his doctors to get back on his antidepressants, etc. That should help his mood a great deal. 🙏Regarding activities of daily living when visiting a person, what a good point Carolyn. So many "normal" daily activities change when sick and in the hospital. As a nurse I would just say for visitors to be sure to check with medical staff before cutting nails or doing personal care. While you may very likely will be able to help after checking, there should be trained nurse's aids and nurses who have dr orders regarding what level of activity and care the patient is allowed to have due to their condition, risk for bleeding, infections, dietary restrictions, etc. There is nothing like helping the person feel as freshened and clean as possible once the clearance from the doctor/ nurses/ medical staff regarding what is allowed is obtained.
Caroline, you’ve been an amazing advocate and friend to Paul. I hope you’re trying to take care of yourself! What are you doing for some self care?? Sending you hugs and strength ❤
I can't wait (but must) until you can go home again. You both have been such stars as both a patient and a friend/caregiver. It's quite true about hygiene issues when you are in a hospital or nursing home. You need to have an advocate, friend, or be in shape to advocate for yourself, and not everyone has any of those things. Thank you, Caroline, for these updates, I'm sure they are not easy, and love to you and to Paul (I smile when he still introduces himself as Paul in Perth, as if we don't know ;-) ).
Thank you for sharing with us Caroline that our loved ones sometimes need a little prompt of encouragement with their personal hygiene. I shall be acutely aware in the future. You really are a thoughtful kind lady. Hope you're taking care of yourself too, you look tired.
Sweet, Paul. So sorry this has been a little rougher than you anticipated, but you are looking stronger. Caroline, thanks so much for all you do. I so appreciate your updates. Keeping you both in my thoughts and let’s hope in 10 days you’re free of the hospital and ready to get back to your Perth life!
Thank you for the very detailed update. Thank you especially for your ability to monitor his mental condition. What a wonderful friend you are. God bless both you and Paul. 💕💕🙏🙏💕💕. Sending love from the US..
Thank you for the update. Happy to hear Paul seems to be on the upswing. Tooth brushing and the like make one feel so much closer to normal. Love that you take such incredible care of our friend, Paul. Sending love to you both and best wishes for Paul's healing. Good to see Paul speaking to us directly ❤
Thank you, Caroline for keeping us updated with Paul. Hi Paul 🖐 So happy to see you! You got loads of medical equipment to push around. Take your time and go at an easy pace. Sending you and Caroline much love and strength. ❤❤🌻🌻
Sorry to hear about the difficulties you have had Paul. But there is thankfully some light at the end of tunnel✨🙏🏼. You’ve got this Paul💪🏼. You WILL feel better in a few days/weeks time💫. Big hug from Willemien💝
Awe.. Sweet Paul.. ♥️ Thank You, Caz, for the update and all the info.. It’s hard to imagine so much time has gone by already and you guys are tossing “10days” around like it was nothing.. I can’t wait for you to be back home and recovering- both of you! Much love, as always.. ♥️
Recovery is a very slow process but it's progressing. Since Paul has clotting complications and the infection caused by the stomach hole he can't expect to bounce back like a twenty year old undergoing an appendectomy. His situation is coming along pretty well. As for personal care in a hospital, I can tell you it's nonexistent. I asked for a toothbrush and got one with a single row of bristles. Ineffective for dental hygiene, let me tell you. I had gastrointestinal symptoms and was too weak to get up to shower without help. They gave me Scrubz which you moisten and wipe on and wipe off. Very difficult to do more than spot cleaning with those things, especially if you get tired trying to do it alone. So if you have a loved one in hospital, it is a great idea to offer a sponge bath if you can get a nurse or attendant to provide a basin, towels and a few waterproof pads. There is nothing like being clean after a week in hospital. One more piece of advice, never leave home in an ambulance without a change of clothing, shoes and a toothbrush! I was whisked off to the hospital in pyjamas, no shoes and my purse. That's it. No phone charger, no personal care items and that's exactly how I was discharged, in hospital socks, pyjamas holding my purse. Family and friends are very important to people in hospital, and they had better be prepared to help.
Thank you for the update. This has likely been said, but you are an amazing asset for Paul right now. I don't know if you are considering your own health and wellness as you care for him, but I hope you find time for recharging. All the best to you Caroline and Paul, strength and love to the both of you.
Hang in there, Paul, it sounds like things are improving nicely. It seems Caroline is taking great care of you. You two will be back home before you know it. ❤😊
Certainly been a long road to Paul’s recovery but thankfully he seems to have turned the corner. So awful to think of people not being bathed and personal care not being attended to. We all know how good it feels to be clean ❤
Glad to hear that Paul is improving. Caroline you are such a good friend, so precious and rare.
Here here 🏆❤️
Caroline is a dear soul!! May God continue to heal you and make you well. ❤
😊 She is one Amazing STRONG Friend. Wish we all had a friend like Caroline 😊
Thank you Caroline for taking time to update us, and for your continued attention to Paul. You are a very kind and gracious friend. 👍🏻❤️🇬🇧
Glad Paul is making progress. Bravo to Caroline, a thoughtful and stoic friend. We are all cheering for you both. Love from 🇺🇸
When i was a nurse in the 70s/80s we gave total patient care to every patient who couldn't manage it themselves. A slow process, but he is truly a remarkable man. Thank you for being such an Angel and a pillar of support to Paul. Much love to you both ❤️
Great news! Thank you so much Caroline. I'm so glad Paul has you there with him. Of course, we will stick with you.❤❤❤❤
You got this Paul , we love you 🥰🥰🙏🏾. Caroline you are an inspiration. Every time we think we’re a good person , a Caroline came along ,remind us there’s room for more growth, you’re amazing lady ❤️❤️🙏🏾.
Thanks Caroline and Paul for the update on your health and recovery.. I hope you will be discharged soon and return home to Perth….💓R
Paul, you are so lucky to have Caroline by your side. Glad you are doing well; you look great. Hope you get to go home soon❤❤
Yes I am. I am very lucky to have Caroline in my life. Paul.
Thank you Caroline for the update on Paul.
Thank you for the update...glad to hear that things are improving. Continued positive thoughts and vibes...
So pleased to hear Paul’s improvements….keep on keeping on!
Keep up the good work Paul! Nice to see you walking around ❤! Stay strong both of you! Thank you for the update!!
Big hugs wee doll, love from Scotland 🏴xx
