You know what amazes me about Boy George? It's his tenacious staying power, his stamina. No matter what adversities he's been through he just keeps picking himself back up and keeps going. He's still working, still famous, and still creating. I couldn't doit if I'd been through everything he has, I don't think many people could.
I listened to him very young and I can relate so much today why fight about politics or whatever else its all in your mind and there's and its about character nothing else. Politics and clothing don't make a person's character or make their manners and respect.
i was 9 when this was taped, boy george was so good with talking to kids he dont give a crap what anyone says about him how he dresses im the same way hes my fav singer since i was a kid n still is
Boy George was living in Walsall at this time in a flat above a shop along with Martin Degville (sat next to George in this clip). Roger Taylor of Duran Duran (who were just forming) frequently spent nights at the flat in Goodall Street with Martin. George and Martin were often seen at clubs in Birmingham which is about 10 miles south of Walsall.
Boy George is so right! I bet those girls felt stupid when Boy George was on top of the charts. I dress up and I walk away from people who have a go at me!!
Georgey is a witty chap, with an incredible capacity of counter-argumentation (check other further tv interviews), and a good lyricist too. I never bought his music but i've heard it on the radio - soulful and competently made. It's a media product, morphing into song, and it cheers up your day. In 95 i was surprised by the quality of the Cheapness and Beauty album, which i found very solid, outstanding even, and being then professionally involved with radio, i played it quite often during that year. I was raised on TG/PTV/DIJ/C93/KJoke...and Motorhead, but i guess one must be really deaf forever to ignore the powerful songs and music on that record. Cheers from Portugal.
Who is that idiot at the end ! I really want to see his face after a few years later when DO YOU REALLY ANT TO HURT ME was at the top of charts and make him realized of who he was making fun of ! Don't touch my BOY he is always perfect !
I love him. He’s so smart. And he wasn’t kidding when he said how he dressed in Culture Club is the watered down version of how he used to dress before he got famous.
Im sure that is the same man who is the original “jimmy” in the album photos for the album Quadrophenia, before Phil Daniels played the character in the film, if you look up “dirty jobs live by the who” im almost certain he does the intro at the start of the song and is in the original photo booklet of the album.
Great video. I was really enjoying listening to what he had to say until the prat in his pyjamas ruined it with his grapes. Incidentally the guy with george is martin degville, lead singer of sigue sigue sputnik.
Je ne comprends pas très bien l'anglais donc je rate des conversations intéressantes dans cette vidéo...boy George semble maîtriser la situation et connaître son sujet.🤔 niveau discussion.👍
Don't understand the point at the end that stupid in pyjamas ate the grapes. For what? And Boy George, always intelligent and not talking crap about what he wanted to try to delivered.
You can tell the guy besides him was so cringed out by the entire exchange, and gave the best response in a few short sentences, obviously dressing differently invites lots of attention, and George just won't shut up yapping on and on, jeez.
All I can say is that this is the same George O'Dowd that appeared on talk shows just a couple of years later when he hit it big with Culture Club. Fame have not changed him at all.
Anyone else notice that someone quitely called Boy George a wanker don't know who but they do. What's the point of the grapes ?? And I bet the girl in beginning and that boy at the end Were really gutted when Boy George became famous. P.s. Sorry for swearing
Everyone is confused about the grape thing at the end....surprised I didn't see an answer to it. My guess is that it was a running gag on the show? Like to control the flow (or in this instance ruin it) they had a stooge character jump in with the grape bit and then cut to commercial? How far off am I?
It looks like the group were part punk, part romantic. Is it Kirk Brandon last row to right? It may look like George didn't care what people think but how could anyone not. Straight guys fell for him but proclaimed "I'm straight".
The whole point of "Something Else" was to give TV access to under 20s who hadn't been on TV before. George fitted the bill perfectly. He's not being interviewed anyway; he's taking part in a free discussion.
What lol. Did you not hear what he told the other kids? He said"you don't have to fight". Even if he had a history if it or whatever, he quickly it made a 180.

Yah I agree. He’s touring the USA again. Finally!
I don't care what people thin, I've always admired George. He has a great voice, and he's very articulate.
Boy George is a very clever young man. I'm impressed.
I listened to him very young and I can relate so much today why fight about politics or whatever else its all in your mind and there's and its about character nothing else. Politics and clothing don't make a person's character or make their manners and respect.
Great to see George being so honest in this interview he is worth listening to, Love You George.
MY thoughts also, NOW George spews BS, sometimes he will outright lie. Back in the day, he spoke from the heart.
how could you not love him
Didn't he imprison someone and beat them with a chain?
@@JK2OJacko you mean a fetish thing?
Baby Boy George, so young yet so brilliant!
boy george is an intellectual among the youngsters.. . with lots of heart.. . i'm amuse!!!
BOY GEORGE WAS A LEGEND IN THE MAKING !!!!!!
He was so right in what he was saying to. You don't have to get involved but if they make you it's hard not o be involved
He had a world of wisdom even then.... brilliant
i was 9 when this was taped, boy george was so good with talking to kids he dont give a crap what anyone says about him how he dresses im the same way hes my fav singer since i was a kid n still is

70s and 80s was the best generation
He couldn't have put it more simply:
"Why do you dress like that?"
"Because I want to".
Boy George is fantastic
George is very charismatic & articulate in this video.
His accent is really cockney here! The other guy is Martin Degvile, even at this age he was a very sparky person.
Sigue sigue Sputnik
Boy has always been good for speeches
George looks fabulous!
I love how boy g. Talks here.. Its soothing.. I dress weird too. Cos i feel like it myself..
His brilliance!!
Very rare...Thank you.
How adorable!
Who is that idiot at the end ! I really want to see his face after a few years later when DO YOU REALLY ANT TO HURT ME was at the top of charts and make him realized of who he was making fun of ! Don't touch my BOY he is always perfect !
Agree I love young BG and I wasnt around in the 70s!
He's always been the truth- dont fight; do your own thing; move along.😊
I love him. He’s so smart. And he wasn’t kidding when he said how he dressed in Culture Club is the watered down version of how he used to dress before he got famous.
... grandios ... thank you for this interview, you know
lovely Boy George xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Several years before culture club. It was not an act for him. Love Boy.
Lol it was only 2yrs before CC
He `s 18 years old there !!! !
nothing but love for Mr Odowdy .hes the best.
WOW Boy George is so sane and clear
Wow, super dupe rare. And this must have been the episode with The Specials as musical guests because I see some of the members in the audience.
He was only 17 or 18 years old here.
Yes, Boy is clever and very articulate. I was wondering what the man's concentration camp pajamas outfit was about at the end? And the grape?
god that was weird....................the ending i mean
Deer Heart right I felt really uncomfortable there. I wonder if he was on something.
@Jess Flores: Maybe he and swastika guy were doing a little role play.
Im sure that is the same man who is the original “jimmy” in the album photos for the album Quadrophenia, before Phil Daniels played the character in the film, if you look up “dirty jobs live by the who” im almost certain he does the intro at the start of the song and is in the original photo booklet of the album.
It’s. I wonder he was so successful. 2019 and he still believes in everything he says.
I know right!!
Great video. I was really enjoying listening to what he had to say until the prat in his pyjamas ruined it with his grapes. Incidentally the guy with george is martin degville, lead singer of sigue sigue sputnik.
Susan Harle I am annoyed with the boy with the grapes! I wanted him to disappear. I wanted the camera directly on George.
wow!! , surprised to see this,
Wooo.. Boy George genial. 😍
Love what he says here, very cool.
03:45 Bloody hell, what was in those grapes?!
How I love THIS George, I wish Karma Chameleon never happened. I die for Martin's fabric design, both looking so FAB!
He’s smart but he looks like a young man educating teens. Top bloke love him.
Boy George Más Joven igual de Bello💓
Je ne comprends pas très bien l'anglais donc je rate des conversations intéressantes dans cette vidéo...boy George semble maîtriser la situation et connaître son sujet.🤔 niveau discussion.👍
Georgy
Don't understand the point at the end that stupid in pyjamas ate the grapes. For what?
And Boy George, always intelligent and not talking crap about what he wanted to try to delivered.
It doesn't take courage to stand up to bullies, it takes intelligence. Something Boy George knows, but this woman doesn't..
Wow, Boy George is literally dressed like the Joker...where is Batman when you need him. Every bit is the joker, down to the gloves
You can tell the guy besides him was so cringed out by the entire exchange, and gave the best response in a few short sentences, obviously dressing differently invites lots of attention, and George just won't shut up yapping on and on, jeez.
Alguien que lo traduzca por favor
Boy George had a really strong London accent back then.
Boy george in bbc
Dam that was a awsome discussion but show is pretty trippy though.
All I can say is that this is the same George O'Dowd that appeared on talk shows just a couple of years later when he hit it big with Culture Club. Fame have not changed him at all.
omg George was 18 here
Kids now are all like sheep. No individuals
Anyone else notice that someone quitely called Boy George a wanker don't know who but they do.
What's the point of the grapes ??
And I bet the girl in beginning and that boy at the end
Were really gutted when Boy George became famous.
P.s. Sorry for swearing

I thought that was Steve Strange until she started talking!!!!!!!
Boy George a Young what do others thing of you
Never realized how much he looked like the Joker...
AMAZING! especially since he was forced to wear a uniform in Catholic school. Another "recovering Catholic".............
Everyone is confused about the grape thing at the end....surprised I didn't see an answer to it. My guess is that it was a running gag on the show? Like to control the flow (or in this instance ruin it) they had a stooge character jump in with the grape bit and then cut to commercial? How far off am I?
OK Boy George was good here, but the kid with the grapes deserves an Oscar js

It looks like the group were part punk, part romantic. Is it Kirk Brandon last row to right? It may look like George didn't care what people think but how could anyone not. Straight guys fell for him but proclaimed "I'm straight".

WHY THEY INTERVIEW TYO BOY GOERGE IF IN THAT TIME , HE WASN´R FAMOUS!!
at that time where he is from there is such a thing as being locally famous. He was basically known for his bold way of dressing at that time.
The whole point of "Something Else" was to give TV access to under 20s who hadn't been on TV before. George fitted the bill perfectly. He's not being interviewed anyway; he's taking part in a free discussion.
mikeMCSG True, they weren't really interviewing him. It was more of a group discussion
Those 'punks' are so boring. They would have looked so drab 2 years after this. And George and Martin are still fabulous.
TBh he used to be very mean. hs used to fight ppl because of hate
What lol. Did you not hear what he told the other kids? He said"you don't have to fight". Even if he had a history if it or whatever, he quickly it made a 180.
