I have had Sam as my teacher for a little over 2 years. I was a beginner at the age of 64. I have progressed by hard work and Sam’s teaching. He can teach at any level. Every week I get a valuable nugget or three that I can use in the community band I play in and with my duo. I play timpani too. The rate I have progressed is incredible. I owe it to Sam and lots of practice. If I don’t play correctly Sam shows me slowly and patiently how to do it. He doesn’t believe in good enough. Either it is right or it isn’t. I have had teachers for many years including medical school. Sam is the best.
Thanks so much! Sam is a perfect guest! His strengths are my weaknesses and I think we’ll be able to teach a wide variety of drummers here. Any lessons that you would like to see?
@@drumlck I’ve used Syncopation and studied from it. I always enjoy seeing how that classic book is used … most drum books today incorporate versions of Syncopation, Stick Control and Advanced Techniques for the Modern Drummer. P38 can be played so many ways … John JR Robinson used that pages as triplet accent exercise … the melody is the accent with hand to hand 8th note triplets being played. It’s a good one for working the right and left side of your playing!
Sam seems like such a great teacher, and so do you! Great lesson and pacing of the video -- it's all there, well explained and set up with the notation and overhead angle. Great job! 🤘🤘
If you want to get UN-BORED; use the hands only on the drums. Then moving the hands around to different drums. You can get sounds, that sound like you are using 2 bassdrums. I've always been fascinated with right hand bassdrum patterns. Especially using the stand jazz or shuffle beat right hand on the floor tom.

Thanks for sharing! I love that you started at 64. That’s inspiring. Sam is absolutely great and I’m lucky to call him a friend.
Wow! Joe Morello, great guest.
