Drinking a good amount of water and staying away from coffee helped me tremendously. I still exfoliate my lips twice a week gently with sugar and honey, and of course I use a good nourishing balm daily. I jog daily and do a 1 hour cardio work out and apparently I keep my mouth open so I have to drink a lot more water now

Also toothpaste! I have so many allergies and it never occurred to me that I could have an allergy to common toothpaste ingredients. I started using an SLS free toothpaste and now my lips are just normal dry and respond a lot better to lip balms. It might be toothpaste if you notice issues in your mouth as well like sloughing skin.

I’m not sure if ClingPro toothcream by 3M might be when you could try. It’s pricey around 15USD (I’m in Australia), it’s like a Denshaw grade toothpaste although it’s actually a tooth cream. It’s like a bit of getting used to, because it’s not like peppermint minty Standard toothpaste type flavoured: but my dentist recommended it to me a few years ago when my teeth were having a lot of problems - no problems there. Yes it’s been the foot and toothpaste and my mouthwash is approximately half the price. It’s just easier to say that the quoteprices because I’m in Australia. So for anyone else in Oz, dentists often recommend the Neutroflour 220 mouthwash - lots of people go to the chemist and pay AU$12 or $13 for 56 g of that brand in toothpaste. But in the one I mentioned, clingPro I get 112 g of toothpaste or tooth cream I should say for around $20-$22 Australian (I buy online in bulk, so the Moorad by the less it makes the postage is in the $10 I paid postage. Are used to buy a years supply at once but this past year I think I bought about eight tubes which is more than two years supply. And yes cost to fortune but it really made that $10 in delivery work - I got the guy to check the use by date on the actual boxes it was sending me before I did say and the years but has a few years on it. Don’t ask me how I started talking about this. Best of luck

Thanks for the SPF lip balm recommendations! I'm pretty good at wearing sunscreen, but I neglect the lips so I should get on that. Two recs for you: Lansinoh, a lanolin product technically made for chafed nipples (lol) that I wear overnight and is SUPER moisturizing. It's a great dupe for a product called Lanolips that is popular in the UK, as well as the pricey Bite beauty agave lip mask. It's cheap, comes in a big tube, and I get it at Target. My other one is the Hurraw black cherry tinted lip balm. It's moisturizing, has a pretty tint, is organic, and - best of all - is available on the VC!

Maria Aye - hi, could you please tell me if tattooed skin is the same as regular skin in the long run or does it get dry, wrinkly and damaged faster than tattoo free skin?

    • @MariaisezrIguess
      @MariaisezrIguess 7 лет назад +3

adti ashok I honestly have no idea. But I will say, I have a full sleeve (tattoos from shoulder to wrist) on one arm, and 0 tattoos on the other arm. My left arm(the full sleeved arm) is slightly softer than the right arm, the tattoo-less arm. I know it sounds super crazy. But after I started tattooing my arm I did notice a texture difference in my skin. Also, of course I'm not a doctor, and everyone is different, and treats their skin differently, but most of my friends who are tattooed moisturize a lot more and use sunscreen on our tattoos to help the life of the tattoo. Over time, the ink fades and especially color tattoos. And even more so for people of color, like myself, it takes more ink to show up. Also, putting a moisturizer on tattooed skin makes the tattoo pop. It gives it more life. Moisturizing helps with the overall life of a tattoo. So I'm not sure if it causes the skin to wrinkle faster or anything like that. Definitely doesn't dry the skin out more, at least for myself. Again, everyone is different. Everyone has a different skin type. Some people take excellent care of their tattoos where others not so much. So I can't speak for everyone, but for me personally, it's just made my skin softer and of course prettier to look at since I am a walking canvas. Hope this helps!!

Thank you for sharing all of this professional information!! Love Pacifica, it is a bit dry but causes no allergic reactions. I have the plain balm and the brownish one and love them!! I think there is a peach one too. I just got a tinted lip balm with SPF from Beach Bum and I love it!! I can wear their regular SPF balms as well with no allergic reaction. Eos has some higher SPF lip balms but I have some trouble with the ingredients in some of their balms. I have not had trouble with the SPF balms as of yet but I don't wear them daily either. Each of their flavors have a different list of ingredients so if you react to one flavor you can always try another. I am best with their citrus formulas. Revlon has lip balm with SPF 15 that is also ok but has flavor. I use vanilla or peach with no problem. I usually have huge problems with SPF lip balm with allergic reactions just for FYI, I would not recommend something I have bad irritation from. A lip treatment that I love is the Bite Beauty Agave lip mask at Sephora. It does not have any SPF. I was getting very deep and painful blood blisters on my lower lip. I was going to go see the MD as they were not healing. The Bite lip mask was recommended to me and this completely healed the blood blisters and I have never had them again. The plain one does not have flavor. I love the lavender tinted one but it does have a flavor. I also love Great Clips SPF 15 Tea Tree lip balm, no irritation at all!! I am going to look into some of the other SPF lip balms you recommended as I almost always react to lip balms.

I stumbled across one of your videos a few days ago and have gone crazy binge watching all of them. Pretty soon, my husband is going to get tired of hearing me say, "Dr. Dray says this and Dr. Dray recommends this..." ! You've got to be a busy woman and so I appreciate the time you take to make and edit these videos. My interest is dealing with my aging skin but I have a question concerning acne treatment. My daughter, who happens to be a third year pediatric resident in North Carolina, deals with acne. She is 6 months pregnant though so it sounds like the Differin is not something she should use. Could she use Benzoyl Perioide or Salicylic Acid without any problems? She won't do anything that is costly or takes a lot of time! I'll be seeing her soon and wanted to give her that info. Thanks again for all the fantastic and informative videos!

Thanks so much!! Sadly not much is known about safety of acne medication ingredients. While no reports of adverse effects in women using salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide during pregnancy have been reported....we cautiously advise not to use these during pregnancy. About the only acne medication considered very safe in pregancy is azelaic acid (brand name finacea or azelex). Blue or red light phototherapy (done in office for best results as otc devices are not regulated and have variable outputs) is sometimes a good option, as well as a few topical antibiotics. UNC and Duke both have fantastic derm departments if your daughter is there for training. Hope this helps :)

I have chronic dry lips, and I've tried a lot of lip hydrating products. The worst ones either disappear after 20 mins and/or leave my lips even dryer than before. I never thought I was allergic to anything, but some products seem to dry my lips out more, so maybe I will start to pay attention to the ingredients in the drying ones.
Eucerin has an "Aquaphor Lip Repair" product that is very good when my lips are already dry and flaky - very soothing and feels nourishing.
If I just want to prevent my lips from becoming dry, Chapstick brand plain Chapstick works great - nothing fancy, but the chapstick-y scent is nostalgic for me. But it doesn't do a good job of fixing already dry lips, unless I apply it non-stop for several days.
I also like the classic Burt's Bees. It's not as good as the Aquaphor Lip Repair, but feels good when my lips are dry.
Some products like Carmex make my lips feel more dry. Those Baby Lips dry my lips out a bit, I think because they're not thick/hydrating enough.
The Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm is a good tinted chapstick with spf 20. Chemical sunscreens don't bother my lips.
The Fresh Sugar Tinted Lip Treatment with SPF 15 is SO GOOD as a tinted lip product (some are even closer to a lipstick in terms of pigmentation) but they are pricier.
I also like the Fresh Sugar Nourishing Lip Balm Advanced Therapy (the one in the pot) for before bedtime, because it's quite thick and sticky and occlusive and stays on my lips all night. But it grosses me out that it's in a pot, and I have to stick my fingers in.
The most nourishing and thick lip product I've ever used is the Aerin Rose Lip Conditioner. It really stays in a thick layer on my lips ALL NIGHT LONG and I always wake up with the softest lips. It's really expensive though. I'm working my way through a free-be sample, and don't think I'll purchase it myself.

Maybe you are allergic to petroleum, I have a similar issue so I decided to start making my own lip balm. So far that helps. You can try Trader Joe’s spearmint lip balm ( petroleum and paraben free plus it’s vegan😍). Or use their argan oil at night that helps me too. I don’t work for TJs or get sponsored just find that their products help. Sometimes I use plain coconut oil or shea butter but the smell can be over powering.

This Jack Black Ultra Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25 has literally changed my life, FabulousFortyPlus! Thank you for the recommendation! I'm an avid "peel the skin off my lips" girl. Sounds harsh but I know I don't drink enough water and living in a super dry climate, my lips have been a wreck for years and years. I do like the Aquaphor but it still wasn't helping the skin on my lips from drying and peeling. Enter Jack Black lip balm. Within 3 days, I couldn't find a dry lifted piece of skin on my lips at all. I'm 3 weeks into using it faithfully and the results are nothing short of a miracle. Bless Dr Dray, her fabulous followers and You for such caring and informative advice. Best information on the Web for sure ♥♥♥

Blistex intense lip therapy - (metal tube with red cap, kind of looks like a bazuka product honestly) works better than vaseline as it contains urea which helps shed the dead skin from the lips while it conditions. Unfortunatley, however it is *very* minty and contains limonene as a fragrance type thingy.... BUT I mean, if they are that bad and chapped you will notice an immediate difference and it numbs the area so they stop stinging.

I've really enjoyed catching up with all your skin care videos and this is a great one! One balm you might consider looking for: Aquaphor makes two specifically for lips and their composition is different from the Aquaphor product you mentioned. It's their Lip Repair- there's one with a chemical sunscreen (SPF 30) and one without spf. Both are fragrance and flavor free. I've used the one without spf for over a decade and it's one of the few American products I have shipped to me here in France as it's not available here. An absolute staple!

I just saw my dermatologist because I’ve been having this bizarre gritty sandlike texture when I rub my lips together and also burning. I’ve always used natural lip balms religiously but I started to notice this even when I put them on. I was told I have something that sounds like penlesh? And my dermatologist told me that all natural lip products are actually dehydrating! I’ve been using Treat organic lip balms for the last year and I’m thinking I started having a reaction because they are known for their flavors.
