    Awesome!,Im surprised these engineering samples actually make it from outside the testing labs and are not destroyed once they are done with them...like for example when prototype cars have gone into production the prototypes 9/10 get destroyed/crushed.

    2/5/ EDIT: actually I made boot with FS1 board with 19V
    new video with FS1 board: ruclips.net/video/0dJzyayY6kQ/видео.html
    It was tricky with drivers. I tried xx versions and WIN7 started to take down.
    But no artifacts or fireworks with all cards.
    Stupid question is ... do you want to see more action under full stress?

      board maybe can be testet. start 12V if nothing happens 14volts if still nothing happens 18volts. stop at 19volts. it looks like a mobile device board. keep the good work, have a nice weekend !

      Sure. I'm looking forward to seeing them. Show us Radeon HD2900XTX in action will be awesome. You need to find a better airflow for it.

    • @RETROHardware
      @RETROHardware  4 года назад

      Yes this is logical way - baterries or adapters for laptops flying around 17-20V. But this is ES board and you can‘t be sure for 100%. Undervoltage can damage anything too.

    • @FixedFunction
      @FixedFunction 4 года назад +1

      I've got an A12 revision 2900 XTX too with a different BIOS which has almost everything stripped out of it. Won't load a driver at all. Can you submit your BIOS to the TechPowerUp VGA BIOS database for other XTX owners to look at and experiment with?
      I've also got the same Radeon HD 6990. What you have should be a review/partner reference board. It's the final version sent out for partners to use in their system displays, and for online reviewers. They originally came in a small aluminum briefcase. They have a BIOS switch directly behind the crossfire connector, so don't forget to check both before giving up on the card! You can also flash retail 6990 firmware to them on the second BIOS position.

    • @RETROHardware
      @RETROHardware  4 года назад +3

      Thanks for info. I got problems with drivers too. No D3D working on XTX. Yep 6990 is final card for reviewers.

  • @WaybackTECH

    ES stuff is fun. I wouldn't mind running some of this in a setup and see just how it compares speed wise to the release cards and how crash happy they are.

    Best guess for that last prototype motherboard would be 19v charger. Most fs1 socket laptops use 19v and that battery connectior is similar what (samsung?) laptops use.

    6990 was near end of HD era when AMD changed to R series (R3, R5, R7, R9) and now RX. X2 for dual GPU, XT for high performance, and XTX the top end.

    I wish manufacturers would make laptop boards in ATX form. Or some way to use laptop chips in regular computers, without the need for extensive modification.
    Someone call Asrock. If you have any crazy idea in your head, all you need to see them realised is a dozen Asrock engineers, and about 80 lines of coke.

    Yeah, i wish i can have an AMD HD2900XTX. That was a monster at that time. What about the other Dual-Gpu card ? was a 3850 or so ? Not working with driver because the GPU got "fucked up" . I have an AMD HD 7950 which behave the same. A few artefacts on screen and looks like i cannot play nothing anymore on that card. R.I.P enthusiast video cards, they are not ment to function more than 4-5 years.Anyway, thanks for video, cheers :)

    Over 800MHz core in dev probably by late 2006. Those are HD5870 speeds. Very early ATI unified shader design held back by compromised design and little to no cheating.
