It really is so damn good. I have never played a from game, this is my first but I have always wanted to. Only never played their games because I HATE the aesthetics, grim dark, gothic/demonic, grotesque monstrosities etc. Though I have played MMOs and especially ESO so theory crafting builds in that game is fun. This game theory crafting builds is got damn infinite, there are so many tools and variables that I now see why people love souls PVP because the PVP Is clearly the real end game. I always thought souls PVP was quite weak, just duelling but after playing ER I now see that it is the infinite build variations that make the PVP so unique.
Storm wall does grant decent parry frames on medium shields, makes it about the same as normal parry on a small shield. Idk about thop's barrier tho. Either way, golden parry, or carian retaliation especially, it much better. Golden parry is a ranged parry, so good for pvp against someone using rivers of blood or some kind of long pole arm. Also has the fastest parry frames. Carian retaliation with the spell catch is just so much better though.
with fingerprint shield +10 (increases guard boost) and greatshield talisman. you take zero stamina loss on blocks. its nutty. dont even need the ash of war
I played this game for so long never using a shield until eventually i equipped the jellyfish one for the dmg that stacks with the roar damage but ended up learning how absolutely amazing blocking can be for some situations, AKA instead of panic rolling blocking can be a better option
If you upgrade your shield enough times (every 3x upgrades you should be able to notice) your shield stability will increase. A brass shield should go to 56-69 (base-max).
I don't find being able to boost your Guard Boost is unfair. While powerful it's not limitless, any non physical damage will still hit, you can be grabbed, many bosses have attacks that hit from the front AS WELL as other directions, with shield only blocking the front if I'm not mistaken, great vid tho!!!
Will barricade shield boost physical damage resistance of a small shield to 100%? And does it have resonance for non physical damage (except Holy, as you said)?

I prefer to not hold my guard all the time, because of slow endurance recovery, I try to guard only at the last second of the strike, even when planning to roll that attack, even if I'm late to roll, me pressing the guard at while trying to roll I'll block the attack and then reset or read the on coming on slaught of the combos most enemies have. Also after rolling I will guard even when planning to roll after the first roll. I don't mind getting my guard broken because most enemies do not go for critical attacks and if they do good on them they played the system around shields.
You can use the “No Skill” ash of war on your shield, or you can just two hand your right hand weapon to use the skill then you can switch right back to shield.
FYI that fire breathing shield is called the Visage Shield, I just found it myself, but it's guarded by a set of really annoying mini-bosses. And it has a 44 strength req, RIP.
Its located down the cellar in caelem ruins. The twin bosses are annoying because so little space to fight can’t separate them. My suggestion summon a distraction and try to kill one as fast as you can. I got lucky and killed one with twin bloody swords and switched to a heavy shield had no problem vs the remaining solo enemy
What’s that round/oval gold tower shield. I see it in a lot of videos and some knights carry them but I can’t find anywhere where to get it. It’s the only shield I’ve seen that’s not on fextralife

Yeah it’s a nightmare. Some of the bleed dogs later have a windup bite move that I think is bugged cause it deals like a hundred hits and instantly procs bleed 50 times to instakill anyone who blocks.

Well they nerfed Barricade, but in turn they buffed all shields to make up for it. Its still a definite skill to use for big enemies.

Jellyfish shield + scholars shield makes you look like your holding an actual energy shield
It sucks that you cant use the ash on your right hand while having a shield in left hand with an ash on it. total bummer.

Make sure it has a 100 physical and a good guard boost 40 up is recommended and baracade shield will let u not lose much/any stamina
