- James Bond 007 at the 1982 Academy Awards
The 54th Academy Awards were broadcast on March 29, 1982 and hosted by Johnny Carson. Sheena Easton was among the performers, belting out "For Your Eyes Only" from the film of the same name, which was nominated for Best Original Song.
Ultimately the song would lose to "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)" from the movie, Arthur, but the performance is a rather... unusual ... dance number which would not have looked out of place in the Star Wars Holiday Special. Bizarrely camp, with a dancing James Bond (thankfully Roger Moore did not take part), a very uncomfortable looking Richard Kiel as Jaws, and what was probably the last ever appearance of Harold Sakata as Oddjob, managing to look both menacing and rather old and frail at the same time (Sakata would die from Cancer four months later on July 29th, 1982 at the age of 62.).
It really must be seen to be believed..!

Wholly smokes, that was some production!!!
RIP Richard Kiel and Harold Sakata. Two great Bond henchmen.
Sheena Easton it was one of the most beautiful young ladies on music business that time...and the song was excellent...all time classic!
Oh wow! The production, the dancers, Sheena amazing voice, it’s like a big budget musical! The good old days when Oscar was fun to watch
Beautiful gown!
That category was jam packed with arthur's theme, endless love and for your eyes only.
Poor Sheena had to run all over the place, do mild acting and still sing in tune. She’s great! This song was robbed that Oscar!
Amazing show!! One of the best Bond songs -and films!
She was so Beautiful. She can really sing
This was decades ago but I still remember everything. Oh my goodness.
The whole show is what art is about, lots of symbolism that relates to what the song is about within the context of Bond's world. Beautiful and imaginate. Today's eyes see this as overkill, ask yourself why, have you lost the ability to feel what the sound and visuals demonstate?
Omg so much overkill, the 80s!! Sheena did own the radio that year, it was played over and over.
A brilliant tribute for Bond. Thankyou Gregg Turkington for all the effort, time and dedication to the first annual our cinema Oscar special. This was a spectacular finale.
So gorgeous and talented!!!this was my favorite Bond song!!!
Beautiful song and perfect production for the time. I miss the days in which the singers would perform nominated songs. Now, the Oscars are a bit of a joke.
Sheena Easton was beautiful and had a beautiful voice. Always loved the song For Your Eyes Only, Johnny Carson as the host that year too❣️Sean Connery was my favorite James Bond in his delivery “Bond, James Bond.” ❤️😎🌹👁
Loved all the villains and that song captures the mystique of Bond so well. Jaws and Odd Job stole the show for me ha.
5 bags of popcorn!
What a great Oscers Special finale!
Best Bond soundtrack ever. And a great flick after the cluster that was Moonraker.
