We ended up with FOS & matt whitlock a key forward with massive upside, next years draft isnt great at all thats why noone wanted to trade our first round pick for anything in this years first round. weve been scouting the whitlocks for months so this wasnt a last minute decision, we really rated both brothers but had matt just ahead of jack .

It's interesting to watch the rebuild of both Adelaide and North. Adelaide started their rebuild focusing on KPPs, and did so at the expense of mids. North rebuilt from the midfield out. I think Adelaide did it the right way as its easier to find good mids than good KPPs
With Tarryn Thomas gone Finn O Sullivan is to me the replacement for that loss. We still have Finbarr Maley who I think will get some games next year standing in as a key forward along with Matt Whitlock. Would have liked Tauru at North had we been able to pull off getting 2 first round picks had we split pick 2
O'Sullivan killed it in a year that had much better players. Great pick. Paid a lot for Whitlock but he also could be anything. Back ourselves in that we will finish higher than 3rd or 4th last and it isn't as bad a trade as it looks currently. Alix Taurus injury and inability to play in 2025 may have been the decisive factor as to why they chose FOS over him. FOS is a much higher chance of impacting straight away. North aint wanna wait till 2027 for Tauru to come good.
The only reason Tauru was hyped was because he was linked to North from early on to be taken with a high pick. I was surprised that the Saints took him with pick 10. The kid is a crap kick, so he should never have been a consideration for North because our kicking generally is already poor.

TBH I am fairly happy with the picks. Future 1st (that I am bullish will be at least around 5 or 6) and we get tigers future second (more than likely pick 19)so drop 13ish picks for Matt Whitlock. And agree with others that FOS had been consensus #1 pick in this draft cohort for a couple of years. Only reason he dropped was because of his early season injuries (and still only dropped to #2) only time will tell whether we have blown this draft but don’t agree with the doomsayers jumping up and down right now.
Wouldn’t use either superlative here. Obviously the north recruiters would have a reason for doing what they did. What I will say is that when you’re doing this rebuild thing, the biggest factor is timing. You are looking to nail a balanced list at a particular time, with that team having both talent and experience across every line. The problem with north going for a key position out of the draft now is that it’s very unlikely they’ll be near their peak when north are right for top 8 with the stacked midfield they currently have. Keys take a lot of time, and can be really unpredictable in terms of development. Don’t forget that larkey was pick 72 and most of us would rather eat glass than see him leave. In other words, north is far better looking to trade for established key positions in the coming years and Clarkson clearly has his eye on a few. And to nail those trades north is going to need capital in the form of tradeable players. I really feel for Phillips etc, who must just think they’re future trade bait. But that is unfortunately the modern climate.

So giving up pick 27 for a "likely" top 5 pick there is a pretty big gap there isnt there. Whitlock was included within the Coates Talent League Team of the year as a defender. Yet he also kicks 27 goals in a season as a forward. Kids got great upside. Kangas needed to make some moves for the now, with that comes some risk. I persoanlly dont think Matt Whitlock is a huge risk, shows better signs than say a Ben McKay.
Fos is the most all rounded talent, literally where does he play.. he could play midfield/hf and even half back boys. he has the most versatility upside.. could be like a Brett Deledio just better side step but same sort of talent and multiple roles like Deledio with marking an on baller which could be a saviour for mr fix it for north.. pretty much the best available for versatility mid. We let everyone know that night after Schimm’s speech thatwe had to get rid of him. That 140 point loss to Adelaide during the preseason was the players not playing for their coach. He got sacked and Pagan brought in. Then came the golden age. Woohoo. Schimma stayed away from the club for a long time. No tears were shed. Nothing has changed and we're still the worst. Nailing top 3 or 4 picks isn't exactly difficult, but what have the ones after those produced so far? When did we last select a more mature aged player? Ben Brown was the last one that worked out for us. Have a look what a club like Geelong does. We are just lazy and don't do enough research and scouting. The majority of North supporters are not disappointed that we took FOS at 2. You are mistaken to think otherwise. Perhaps you should take your blinkers off occasionally.
You wanted North to draft a 6 month flash in the pan at 2 instead of the best mid in it? Maybe you need to check yourself.

Keep in mind that North were the worst recruiting club for five years straight before Brady arrived.
Nothing has changed and we're still the worst. Nailing top 3 or 4 picks isn't exactly difficult, but what have the ones after those produced so far? When did we last select a more mature aged player? Ben Brown was the last one that worked out for us. Have a look what a club like Geelong does. We are just lazy and don't do enough research and scouting. We may as well get rid of the recruiting team and just select whoever some of the Mock drafts pick for us.
