What's the joke?
This figure really makes me think of bionicle with how it looks.
That's because it's using bootleg Bionicle parts from the Toa Inika. And parts from Bionicle's successor Hero Factory.

@@SpaceCase1214 Uh, no. A "bootleg" is when somebody takes an official product and makes copies of it. There's not a single part of this that looks like it came from an official Bionicle or Hero Factory set.
No, I get Neo Shifters vibes from this toy. It looks like one of Mega Construx's Transformers wannabes, minus the transformation gimmick.

It's from Mega Blox/Construx's Bionicle clone line. I looked it up and they were called techbots with a spiderman figure exactly like the one in this bootleg, but I swear there was an earlier line called something else maybe.
EDIT: Just found it quickly after the comment, there was an original line of similar figures before the spiderman techbots and they were called Neo Shifters.

With the weapons, for the disk laucher, you gotta squeeze those two silver parts into eachother and itll laucnh the disk, with the ball shoot, you gotta push the thing you call a propeller

Looks like they found a Bionicle knockoff mold somewhere and decided to repurpose it for a Spiderman knockoff. This brings the question why hasn't Lego done this yet now they have a bajillion licences they could make new bionicle sets out of?!?
You're not too far off about the Bionicle knockoff thing--this looks to be a bootleg of a very similar product that mega bloks made when they had the Marvel license briefly.
As for Lego they did do 3 marvel and DC Bionicle sets, I'm guessing they sold really poorly because they didn't make any other ones. The closest they have now is that there are some current brick based ones of various marvel characters.
Im sure Lego have done a Buildable Spiderman recently,theres loads of them that ride mechs by lego.

“Spider-Hero” is actually the name of an in-universe bootleg costume that Blade bought once to disguise himself when people were after him
In "Spider-Man TAS" last episode Spider-Man from another universe (Iron Spider, arrogant billionaire) had giant Spider-Man robot. It was nod to Leopardon in Japanese series.
I can just imagine the Spider-Man suit Turner Peter Parker into a robot like that Vera Cyborg scene in Superman 3.
What _dazzles_ me most is: Why add the Spider-Man motive? This seems to be a cool robot figure on its own, if they threw out the mask and invested the 5 cents they saved on that into better working joints, put the lights into the figure and add a spring mechanism for the launcher, and this would be really awesome. And it's not like they _paid_ for the licence anyways...

@@breakingbasha Yeah but that's my point: They could have made a better product by not desperately trying to copy something else they never had a chance to make a propper replacement for in the first place, but if they made the set more generic it would have become a good product.
But that's china for you, blindly copying everything expecting to become the market leader without understanding why it cannot ever work.
I'm not complaining though, they'll give us a million more episodes of Bootleg Zone...
@@EvilGrin You are assuming that the people who make these things care about quality, they do not. As has been shown time and time again if you attach a well known character or brand to a product it will sell by that connection alone, quality is not relevant when they already have your money now is it?
@@Slytalion Not the quality, the fact that they completely unneccessary use copyrighted materials to "spruce up" a completely fine toy set. I would not doubt that they don't care about the quality either, but that's not the point. If they could save one cent per set by not cheaply copying some franchise, they'd save tens of thousands on each production run. The option to actually investing 5 cent per set more and selling 10 times the amount of toys is only the consequence of their ignorance in business and marketing.
@@EvilGrin I get that but my point is that higher quality would only be a relevant selling point if people would buy the product to begin with, only then can word of mouth help the product convince people to buy it because it is a quality product, slapping a well know character or brand on something instantly guarantees sales and that is the goal with these products.
If Spiderman crossed over to the Dingoverse, I'd watch that.

Honestly, this was a pretty cute toy idea, if only in concept. If this company hadn't tried to cut every corner they could, they could have really had something.

This bootleg kinda reminds me of when "Mega Blocks" did a line of "Marvel" heroes in the style of Lego's "Bionicle" figures, and one of them was of course "Spider-Man". I think I had the whole set.
If this "Spider-Bot" bootleg was trying to emulate that formula by having the figure prebuilt, then a missive epic fail here.

So both laungers look like bootleg bionicle parts. In those cases the disk launcher needs to have both of the holders pulled together which launches it. The ball launcher needs the rod extending from the ball pushed into the ball, but that may not be possible depending on how its made.

The launchers are both pressure-based, not mechanism-based. The disk launcher works by squeezing the sides behind the disk, and the "propeller" of the "ball dropper" is actually the *back,* and is a plunger you press in to shoot the ball out of the front of the little chamber: hold it with your thumb in the depression on the back, and your index and ring fingers on either side of the chamber, and push.
At least, I ASSUME that's how they work, since they're very clearly ripped off from the launchers from Bionicle's 2004 and 2006 sets.

The disc launcher should fire by squeezing the sides but it looks to weak the ball launcher should fire you hold it in-between your fingers and press on the end I have something similar it's a weird launcher

The disc launcher seems like the type where you press in on the sides and the pressure shoots the disc out instead of having a mechanism. However, it doesn't look like it has much flexibility or room to actually move so I doubt it works very well anyways.
Wait a minute... without the mask on, the peg-hole makes him look like... could it be...? THE FUCT OF PEPSIMAN!
Imagine if this is a robot made by Spencer Smythe to battle our friendly neighborhood, it would be a disaster and very easy to defeat, LOL!

I've recently fallen in love with the stupidity/silliness inherent to the Marvel Mech Strike series and it's tie in materials and I always liked seeing those toys with a Spider Man mask inside as a kid even if I never got them or the web shooter toys, so this review in particular was pretty up my alleyway
Yeah... this bootleg looks like they "borrowed" from various other molds and uh, clearly replicated with significantly cheaper materials I would imagine so....
Still, I"m kinda impressed that there actually was *something* to the mask itself, I was half expecting them to have the spots in the plastic mold to place the electronics and for there to actively be no electronic components, so there's something I guess..... yay minimal effort!
