Got my squire strike 55 degree in & after playing around with it a couple of days , i can use this wedge from 100 yarde in , can hit flop shots chip & run shots, I liked it so much I already ordered the 45 degree wedge

I have the 45 and 55 degree and exclusively go to these from 60 yards and in. I'm now a 20+ handicapper and my short game was a mess. I got these clubs and they have taken 6 shots off my handicap in 6 months. I am now full of confidence from that 60 yard mark, so much son that it is the distance I target for layups. If I need it high with a soft landing I use the 55, if I want it to run out I use the 45. Best money I have ever spent on golf. I can understand low handicappers wanting more versatility but for high handicappers just wanting to get on the green they cannot be beaten.

@Les Moore The original chipper irons were pretty much a bump and run club, and quite limited. Not these. I use these regularly from anywhere out to about 80 yards. The 55 degree gives a really high ball flight and drops onto the green without much run out. Both of these have become my go to approach clubs. So, to answer your question directly, yes you can use these to carry over water or any other obstruction between you and the green. Because the putting type stroke takes the wrists out of the shot, I find distance control is much easier as well. Like everything, practice will make perfect and the more you practice with them the greater the reward. They are not miracle clubs and are not for a low handicapper because a low handicapper can do so much more with genuine wedges, but for a high handicapper who just wants to get onto the green more often than not they are great. Just remember to putt and not swing at the ball. Longer distances are achieved by a bigger putting stroke. If you use a standard golf swing with these you will be in trouble.

    • @gregbutler8841

@Les Moore No trouble at all, hope you get as much use out of yours as I do with mine. To be completely honest, I wasn't expecting too much and have since been quite surprised.

Mine came in today, both 45* and 55*. The shafts are way too long. When I grip it like I am supposed to, the butt of the shaft is touching my stomach. I will practice a few thousand chips with them and see If they are worth keeping.

I have own this club the 45 degree, for 3 years . Chipping around the greens is fantastic. I can take a full swing and it hit 100 yards. A 3/4 punch from 60-70 yard.out. This club has saved me 4-6 shot per round vs a 56 or sand wedge. Get one and learn how to hit it. Once you do you’ll be taking out a club that you hit worse and more inconsistent. I use this club probably 6-8 times per round. Don’t let the looks of this club scare you away.

I'm 71 years of age. I hit this club straight back and through and hit it 50 to 60 (times even further)
and less, beautiful!!!ly So I don't agree one can only hit it 40 yards. I purchased a 55 degree and 35 degree. I got rid of my 4 wedges, and love my square strikes!!!!!!

  • @robrobbins4906

I've used the 45 and hit just about as long as my pitching wedge. Just have to remember that it's heavier and will stay more open than a PW. Good spin too. Yes, it can be opened up and yes it will come out of the bunker.

I have both the 45° and a 55° and love them. I also can take full swings with the 45° wedge. They also make a seven, eight and nine iron but they are hard to find or disco’d. Highly recommended on the wedges. My short game and sand game have improved

So to prove the notion that one can't use this club opened up or out of the bunker has been debunked by Mr.Short Game. He did both and with remarkable results. He found the club to be quite versatile. I think I may give it a go.

Very helpful. I bought a hybrid chipper recently (not this one) and it was due to the fact that I was shanking my chips, sorry to say. There mention of chunking but not shanking and this type club will alleviate that issue I think. But these type chippers go fast and low, so beware but they go straight and that’s what I needed. In fact if I’d seen this review first, I would have bought this club.

I got this club last year and I was amazed by how easy it was getting the ball close to the hole. I don't struggle with a wedge around the green I just wanted to try it and I loved it, but I always go back to my wedges when chipping. This club is not that great in thick rough. The farthest I use the square edge was 20 Yards, the situation called for a 4 iron punch shot from under some trees, and I used the square edge instead and wow it came out beautifully, was amazed. But you will need to practice with it for a while, it takes time to get use to it and master the hitting technique.

I own the 44 and the 55 degree versions of the Square Strike wedge...Although the commercial suggests a putting motion, I've used the 55 for a flop by hinging the wrists...Works really well for anything inside 50 yards....I've also used the 44 the same way with a severe hinge from 60/70 yards out and, it works great for me...I was used to the old Cleveland Niblick clubs so, this was an easy transition...I love the clubs...Also have a 60 but, I don't use that one very often...

The club is designed for high handicappers like me. I actually routinely hit from up to 65ish yards. the longer shots are just like you said high and pretty straight. My problem on shorter shots is the roll. This club doesnt impart much backspin on a ball and will roll out. it takes practice to hit your shots short and let them roll to target. I havent been able to hit it out of sand and have to go back to my sand wedge and hope i can hit the ball ok.... I like the club and its my first short to medium range choice club in my bag.

Your review of the Square Strike was totally wrong! I've had mine for about six months and it is the best club in my bag from 60 yards in! It is very versatile once you get used to it. You CAN open the face, hit high soft shots from 60+ yards and even flop it. Plus it's the only chipper you will ever want! I'm 66 years old a 20 handicap so maybe my slower swing just suits the club but I Love this thing!

Harold, that's great! Of course, the club is a better fit for some than others. But with less than 50 degrees of loft and a very bulky sole, I had a really hard time hitting any high shots with it. Thank you for watching and we encourage the feedback on our reviews!

You appear to be a fairly good golfer just by watching your connected swing with no wrist action. Most amateurs struggle with flipping of the wrist and overuse of the arms, consequently it is not the club that makes the difference, it’s creating a one piece connected motion with no wrist flipping.

I use a normal 3/4 type wedge swing from different distances and a putting type motion around the greens. I just ordered the 55 the same day. Take a few hours and learn to chip with your pitching wedge and you will be fine. If you use the same putting stroke with you wedge as recommended with this club, it will work the same exact way. There is no magical club that will make someone a good golfer. This club is a waste of a valuable space in your golf bag.

@@sunsioux444 I think everyone gets twitchy at times with their chipping... All it takes is an hours practice and you can easily sort it out... This club won't solve your problem it will just make it permanent so that you have to leave this useless thing in ur bag.
All it is is a club with ALOT of bounce with 45 degrees of loft... You can only have 14 in ur bag and I already have 1 of these... I call it my PW.. Its useful for chipping pitching and full shots to the green.
Some golfers want to solve problems with technology that an hours practice could sort out.
Just chip a ball round your garden for an hour.
After 10 minutes you will be bored and relaxed and you will find you can chip well with any club in your bag from a 4 iron to a PW.
Most people get yippy because they grab a 60 degree lob wedge and fat or blade everything.
A lob wedge is the worst possible club to use if your twitchy about chipping.

Right, I take my 8 iron and stand the shaft vertical until the heel is slightly off the ground, then use a putting stroke. An old lady golfer taught me this years ago. I think of her every time I run one up close! I do have a chipper though, I just couldn't resist trying one (sucker).
