Jordan's voice is definitely one that grows on you. I hated it at first and then one day it just clicked and now I love La Dispute. Very few vocalists are able to portray the same level of raw emotion as him imo.
LA Dispute holds quite the place in my heart, I love spoken word, and post-hardcore always, and they’re the perfect combination of story and sound for me. It makes so much sense that the lead singer wrote poetry before the band because he’s always on point with it. All of their songs form a story that builds into a bigger picture, I totally get it’s not for everyone, but they hit different.
Its a song that is a super sad story. I personally love how this brings bout the emotion to anyone listening. Not alot of songs can make you do that. She cried even tho she hated the song... Shows how stong the music/story was. This song gets me every time to.
Whoever picked this song by them didn’t actually want you to like La Dispute, they just wanted to shock you. Kinda selfish of them but I guess they got what they wanted 😂
When I heard La Dispute for the first time in 2010, I hated it. But once I learned lyrics and realized how in tune they were with the feel of the song, I ended up loving them. Seen them multiple times over the years. They also ENCORED with this song on their wildlife tour. And it's not their longest song either. They have a 12 minute song from the album prior to this one.
Honestly, as much as I always want to try to find songs you guys would enjoy, I am so beyond hyped that I was able to find a song she wasn’t into on the first try. I came out the gates swinging 😤 I went very lyric heavy and with a vocal style a lot of people aren’t into so I felt like it was a safe bet she wouldn’t like it. Dallas looked actually disgusted with the song though, so sorry for putting you through that 🤣 I will continue only ever requesting songs that I think at least one of you will like and I will never request La Dispute again 😇 Thank you guys so much for at least listening to the whole thing! oh side note, the shooter in that story did end up killing himself, unfortunately :(
Glad y'all heard this. It's definitely different but this certainly not the best intro piece lol. Bury your flame ain't too bad. Might enjoy it a little bit more, not as depressing.
The point was to find a song she wouldn't like though, so I had to make sure I went with one that was not their best song lol Personally, I love everything this band does, but I knew songs that were heavy with the spoken word style and not so elaborate instrumentally would have the greatest chance of her not liking it. I promised them I would never recommend this band again because of how much they hated this song, but I almost feel like now I want to recommend another song just so they can see they aren't so bad lol Lyrics are really important to me though, so that helps boost my love for this band a bit and I am sure it doesn't matter as much to other people.
i was gunna recommend this song. no band i know of has songs as emotional as la dispute and king park and i see everything are two of their top tear songs
Im not a big fan of La Dispute, but this definitly one of my fav songs ever lol. Its very intense. Thanks for reacting cause not a lot of people have with this song.
Well this wants me to break out my La Dispute records now. It took me a hot minute to get into his voice as well, not because of the spoken poetry because I love that in music, and in general, plus I write poetry so it definitely attracts me. It was the tone of his voice that took me a bit to get into but I just loved the story telling and how the music just fits with the emotion of his voice when I was like ah, I finally get it. But they’re not for everyone of course! This did just make me think of another band that includes spoken word though that maybe I’ll have to request soon to see what you think of them 🤔
@@beccareichard6669 YESSS, their older stuff is all that matters anyway, that would be sooo sick if you request them. The lyric "god im so sick of this place" gets me all up in my feels every single time I hear it, their newer music is pretty weak lyrically too if I remmeber correctly, but I haven't listened to it much so wtf do I know. DO YOU KNOW LISTENER THOUGH?? The song "It’s Time For Drastic Measures They’re Not Taking You Seriously" is so hecking good bro oh my god. WHEN ARE WE LISTENING TO MUSIC TOGETHER?!!?
If you really think about it, the instrumentals tell the story with the lyrics. It's meant to make you uncomfortable. And the vocals sound like a person who's actually speaking and not trying to do some complex vocals. It's spoken word with a little extra elements

Same! Revisiting them was one of the best things I have ever done :)
La Dispute is amazing pure story telling and poetry. Strong lyrics and music. Pure emotion! This is based off a true story.
