This is both touching and unsettling, seeing these guys return to such a different world from the three weeks of the Tour. Knowing what a viciously repressive regime Eritrea is, and that Taklehaimanot has been refused exit visas in the past to go and race abroad, for fear that he won't come back, I can't help speculating that the regime is exploiting his popularity for their own ends, and wondering what sort of threats they've made against his family members to make sure he doesn't jump bail while he's abroad. Yet his popularity is genuine, and it was wonderful to see him in the Spotty during the Tour.
