    I feel like people are trying too hard to be nice and say stuff like "Just because it has a dancebreak, its not a slomo copy".
    The choreography included like 9 dancemoves from slomo, the outfit looks simular to the one of chanel, the melodies are sometimes the same aswell (the first line of each of their second parts literally sounds identical), i could even go on about other stuff like one song being about making a video in slomo and the other putting the video on loop...

    Indeed, it is very difficult not to draw comparisons with SloMo. And I am not at all that kind of person who is quick to make those comparisons with SloMo or Fuego with each female bop. This is currently last in my ranking but I do not hate it. I just think it is quite dated and I just can't put it above one of the other songs. This could also go in a lot of directions in terms of the results. It is hard to predict but if she performs well she could definitely qualify.

    Ah, so this is the Chanel copy this year, is it? Sorry, the "Tesco Value Slo-Mo" 🙂
    The song itself isn't really doing it for me. It borrows from too many others. For example, the "M-m-m-move" bit at 3:24 - it's taken straight from Mata Hari by Efendi, no? It's all very derivative, but it'll probably qualify. Funnily enough, the Sweater song is still my favourite Maltese entry of recent years.
    On the subject of dance breaks, have you noticed how they've become more of a thing in recent years? Chanel set the standard, with Noa Kirel taking the same route last year. And then you had Brunette (Armenia), who added an entire dance routine into the song before the last chorus at the contest, which didn't even exist in the official video.
    So the trend seems to be going that way for some entries right now, where the song takes a clear second place to the visuals.

    She can sing and dance a lottt. I really like this song and I think it’s gonna bring Malta back to the final, however I don’t think it’s going to do a lot in the final. The song doesn’t punch as much as SloMo, Fuego and Unicorn but it’s good enough to get a respectable placement

  • @CookieFonster
    @CookieFonster 10 месяцев назад +1

    This is one of those Eurovision songs that makes me think, "yeah I can see why this country chose to send that". After not qualifying two years in a row, Malta decided to follow a successful formula. It's kind of formulaic and very SloMo-inspired, but I do really like the synths in it.

  • @TheManInBlueFlames
    @TheManInBlueFlames 10 месяцев назад +4

    This is a lot better from Malta! Still sad the Busker didn't do too well but at least this is competitive! And Sarah will have plenty of time to improve her vocals. However, it obviously does sound like another song that did well will cause inevitable comparisons! I will say though there's a LOT more dancing in this that people will appreciate and there are some more unique ideas there with the flip and blindfolds which they could easily expand upon. So far so good. Though I think with all the potential girl bops we could get at Eurovision this year, Matt Blxck with his male Banana domination could have given Malta a televote landslide potentially! I'm serious! What I do like though about Sarah is that she is young and energetic so she could easily blossom and mature by the time Eurovision comes! Sarah wasn't the frontrunner until some weeks ago, when her music video was released and people could actually see her vision!

    Look, I liked Chanel before she had ever preformed it in front of an audience, so I like this too.
    Does this hit quite as hard in this version and is she executing it exactly as perfectly as Chanel (which granted is an extremely high bar)… not quite.
    It it’s still pretty darn good though. Perhaps the revamp will elevate it further and if she can get even more stamina, this could do quite well.
    Probably not a winner but I am personally glad it is there.

    Well, the thing with girly bops is that they have a high qualification rate but little winning potential.
    Chanel and Noa didn't get better than 3rd. Eleni came 2nd and lost to the cheekier Netta (you can say Toy is also a girly bop but she's not the traditional sexy female and was not trying to be sexy so it doesn't quite count).
    I don't think there's a girly bop that managed to clinch the trophy in recent years.

    • @Adam_jd
      @Adam_jd 10 месяцев назад

      Yeah your right, the only one that did win was Greece 2005 19 years ago. Even Ani Lorak came second in 2008, but I wouldn’t consider them as proper girlbops either

  • @patrickh3385
    @patrickh3385 10 месяцев назад

    The comparisons with SloMo say it all and I agree - this doesn't have anything like the same level of substance as SloMo, Fuego or Unicorn which would say are among the best of their kind. This will struggle against Italy, Luxembourg and probably Greece as well if Marina Satti's entry is upbeat and well-executed.
    With Latvia and Ireland and possibly Georgia in contention to qualify, I fear Malta could be in for a few years in the wilderness.

    based to the studio version and music video, I think this has some K-Pop elements as well; a combination of western Pop (often heard in songs of Anne-Marie or Dua Lipa) and K-Pop (often found in tracks of Aespa, Blackpink and Itzy); I think it could be somehow a bit better that the staging was more similar to, or inspired by, live televised performances of the artists I have just mentioned (such as, for example, their performances in televised music awards shows like Brit Awards), and less resembled some of the past Eurovision performances (mainly, as many people mention, the performance of Spain's entry in 2022).

    Easily one of the best choices Malta could have made. I've seen a few comparisons to SloMo elsewhere, which is typical I suppose. I think with elevated staging this could certainly do all right in Sweden, but in a 100% public vote semi-final, I just feel Malta will struggle more often than not.

    Loop isn't a bad song and is somewhat catchy, but it just feels low energy and doesn't really stand out. There's also Sarah, who sounds too wispy and shy to sell this sassy girlbop, though it could just be the style. But as of now, she seems like more of a dancer than a singer. It would be pretty lucky to qualify at this point.

  • @Doivid297
    @Doivid297 10 месяцев назад +1

    Well, here's my local two cents on all the madness that was MESC as well as "Loop".
    As per, TVM did so many things wrong... Why have 4 quarter finals rife with filler? Why organise a probably expensive songwriting camp to find an "aUtHeNtIc MaLtEsE sOuNd", when you accept the most plastic, Swedish-Norwegian pop imagineable with only a few touches of actual Maltese sound THEN proceed to eliminate all of the latter? Not a single song that was 100% in Maltese was in the final, and even "Cloudmaker" which has a very Maltese ambience despite it being quite internationally indie got the boot. What was the point of organising a selection through MVs and PRECORDED LIVES IN TVM STUDIOS WITH NO AUDIENCE?? A 70/30 JURY-TELEVOTE SPLIT?? And somehow - we got a presentable result that COULD get us to the final... Wha-? I have no idea how, but I'm beyond relieved that it's "Loop" and not "Banana". The latter would have gotten us cancelled (colonial African explorer attire? Seriously?) and the televoters, being the Maltese televoters they are, actually did choose him. So silver linings and all that, but it's just so odd nonetheless.
    Regarding "Loop" itself - well, the Tesco Chanel metaphor is quite correct. Bear in mind, we seem to have less of this kind of poppy female dance routine these days, and they do sell at least a little, so I'm not writing us off completely just yet. My main concern is that it's a televote-only semi, and without Ireland, UK and Australia, it's an uphill climb, even if semi 2 is apparently full of underdogs. It's not in any way a song I would listen to outside of the Eurovision context, but it's fine enough a choice, even if risky. I was also a tad worried that Sarah would not be able to pull sexy off - she just does not give those vibes, plus as you mentioned, she seemed to be more of a ballad singer. Nonetheless, I think we're in no danger, she did very well live, and I will keep my fingers crossed for an MT qualification despite my very mixed feelings.
