    I love this! Thank you for sharing several new (to me) techniques to perfect my crochetting skills. I wondered how I could change colors after each round and found that I could easily pull through the new color when making the second, front-to-back loop of the fake double crochet stitch. I then inserted my hook through both loops per video instructions, old color and new, pulled through with the new color, chained one and continued. The result is beautiful! There is a slight seam on the back of the work, but, who cares? It's the front that matters.

    thank you! Your instructions were very clear verbally and nice and slow visually. THANK YOU! As a beginner , and a lefty, I find that in many tutorials, the people kind of whip through those stitches and I'm having to stop and start several times over. Question though:
    How do I continue making it bigger if I need to make it larger than 9 rows? I saw that someone else asked that question, but which row do I add my 2nd dc in the same stitch as the fake dc, and when do I just leave the fake dc alone and do two in the next stitch? I don't see a pattern in that.

    May I ask how do we know about how many stitches to start with at the beginning of each row? As beginner, I am still confused every time.
    Normally, I just count the first stitch as one then increased, next row will be two then increased and so on.

    Hi there! Thank you so much for the video. I am just getting started with crocheting and am transitioning from hats to coasters and placemats. I have noticed with most yarns I use after i get past the 5th or 6th row it starts to turn into a bowl. Does this type of yarn eliminate that issue, or did i miss a step in the tutorial where you addressed that issue? Thanks!

    • @JonnaMartinezCrochet
      @JonnaMartinezCrochet  5 месяцев назад

      I would say if it is doing this it is either your increasing is not being done enough or it is your tension.
      If your stitch count is correct and you have enough stitches then try going up to a larger hook for those rounds.
      Example: start with a 4.5mm hook and then for rounds after 4 go up to a 5mm hook.

    thank you love this, but also for the fake double crochet stitch, it leaves a very obvious line in the back of the mat, if you don't want that just do a slip stitch in the same hole shown and chain three (it does the same thing and doesn't show a seem or mess up you stitch count)

    Oh my goodness, SUBSCRIBED! I love the idea of this "fake double crochet"! I've started and stopped crocheting a few times in my life, but stopped back in February or March because I got too fed up with struggling to learn how to make a bucket hat without ugly seams... maybe I'll try this placemat to see how things go!
    I don't remember if the pattern I was using was done with double crochet or half double crochet... is there such a thing as a "fake half double crochet"? I might just try to mimic this, but feel free to let me know if you have a tutorial on a "fake half double crochet" on your channel too! 😊

      @@JonnaMartinezCrochet Thanks and I will! Love your instructions and your clarity! And your fake dc!
      I was concerned about the different beginnings of each row but it looks like I've figured it out! Its a teal and black varigated thickish yarn; LOOPS & Threads Braid BIG... Easy to work with!

    Love this! But what do I do when i need a new yarn roll for a new row?

    • @JonnaMartinezCrochet
      @JonnaMartinezCrochet  4 месяца назад +1

      When you have about 5 inches left to the last bit of yarn, start your hdc stitch, when you have the 3 loops on the hook, grab the new yarn with your hook (about 5 inches from the tail) and pull it through to complete the last stitch. Then continue working with the new yarn.
      Then weave in the tails when you get a chance.

    Do you have to use this type of yarn or can you use any bulky 5??

    • @JonnaMartinezCrochet
      @JonnaMartinezCrochet  3 года назад

      You could use bulky (5) but I would do another 1-3 rounds because it will be smaller.
      I also recommend Cotton because it is easy to clean.

    What is the material that can be used to make the place mat stiff

    • @JonnaMartinezCrochet
      @JonnaMartinezCrochet  9 месяцев назад

      You could use a cord yarn, or just cord, you could also make this using jute twine.

    Does anyone know how to do a colour change half way through? I’ve got to round 6 and fancy switching to another colour but I’m not sure where the best place to start off the new colour would be?

    • @hayleyrawlingson6917
      @hayleyrawlingson6917 2 года назад

      Also how would I make an even larger one - Just keep with the increases and then SDC in between with one more added to each round?

    • @JonnaMartinezCrochet
      @JonnaMartinezCrochet  2 года назад

      The color change might be hard to understand, but at any point you would start a dc, half way through, when you have 2 loops left on the hook you will pull in the tail of another color to finish the stitch with the new color. There are lots of tutorials on it too if you look.
      As far as making this bigger, yes just continue with the increases.
      You will have one more stitches between the increases each round, 8, then 9 then 10, etc.

  • @janetmenchyk9778
    @janetmenchyk9778 2 месяца назад

    Why do some rows start with an increase and others don’t? If you’re going to keep making rounds how do you know when you need to start with an increase?

    • @JonnaMartinezCrochet
      @JonnaMartinezCrochet  2 месяца назад

      Yes, this is just how the pattern is written. So you don’t get obvious increase peaks.
      As you go you’ll see how you would increase more.

    • @JonnaMartinezCrochet
      @JonnaMartinezCrochet  Год назад +1

      You probably could but you’d need to use 3 strands of the worsted held together or find a bulky 6 yarn by Yarnspirations.
      Also I use mine (cotton) for hot pads for pots sometimes. I wouldn’t do that with acrylic yarn as it has a higher potential to melt.
      Thank you so much for watching! ❤️❤️❤️
