Ingredients don’t matter, country doesn’t matter, it’s an universal truth - the first pancake isn’t good.
Sometimes my first 'pancake' or pikelet as we call them in Australia if they have eggs in them, is the best one & the rest go downhill, so it is nice if the first one isn't so good as you know that they can only get better... 🤣🤣🤣
The best thing about the first pancake is that you, as cook, has first taste of your pancakes as they are too ugly to give to someone else!
Christopher is always so laid back and chill, it was nice to see him get excited about showing you the boat
I don't know why I laughed when Cecilia said that unfortunately Grim has to be leashed at all times now, and then it cut the scene where we see Grim with a 20 meter long leash 😂

I’m in New Zealand and Maori have a legend that the sun has two wives and right now he’s lingering with his winter wife…ie up north with you! We have short days and cold nights but soon he’ll speed back to his summer wife ( ie south) and linger with her for a while. And you’ll be in darkness then, sweets, while we go swimming.

We fell in love with Norway during our 5 day visit to Bergen in October 2023 . A long way from our home in Australia. Your videos are inspiring and educational and I’m sure a lot of Australians would love to visit your beautiful part of the world. I’m hoping in the future you could provide a video of what it’s like for tourists to visit during your two distinct seasons. Travelling to Svalbard, accommodation styles, activities, the ideal number of days to stay an idea of the local costs. Cecilia you are a great communicator and the ideal person to lead a tour group when visiting 😢Svalbard.

I would definitely prefer Polar Night. In the endless darkness , people can light up inside and out, in many ways, plus the snow makes the atmosphere feel lighter than it is. The endless daylight would drive me insane.
Agree. In this part of 🇨🇦 we get short days and long nights in late autumn and winter months. My favourite time of the year.

I lived on a mountain and the Central Valley of Costa Rica was below us.
Costa Rica never sleeps so the light from the valley was all night and was like daylight. We got used to it because it was 365 days a year.
Grim is such a doll. Definately a snow man. He is so pretty.

Grim choosing his snow power spot is very cute. He is a fur boy for sure!
Hi Cecilia! You need to put Grim on a running leash which is much shorter...like 4 ft. He will gate or move at your speed and it will be much smoother for you and easier.
My dogs do the same thing as Grimm. Love,love the snow hate the rain or wet ground lol. Wonderful scenery and nice to see the water again
When Christopher was on the boat, he spoke English with such confidence that I almost didn't realize it was him. 😊

A few years ago, I was invited to my cousins home in Bollnas, Sweden; for the holiday, MidSommer. My late Mother had told me how that when she was a girl... her family drove all day to get to Leadville, Colorado where my grandmothers family was from (My Grandmothers family immigrated here from Sweden). She had dreamy eyes telling me about dancing around a Maypole and having such great fun. And I did finally get to see the children dance around the Maypole and I could imagine my mother as a child doing the same. But I have been raised in Western US., where we have nights... all year around. In my life I have worked shifts. Nights, Evenings, Days, Rotating sometimes. But I had never been without darkness. I had such a time trying to sleep and during my two weeks visiting Sweden for MidSommer, I could not be myself due to my absolutely being drained from lack of sleep. I am older and on medications that went crazy. It must be something a person can get accustomed to after a few of those holidays. I slept like I was in hibernation when I got back to home base. For a week, only waking to eat and take medication. It's such a beautiful place... but next time I will go in the Spring or Autumn. Svalbard is a place I might never see. Thank you for showing me around.
We don’t have midnight sun here, but the sunsets about10:30 pm and rises at 4 am. I am loving it.

Great, Cecelia. 😊 😊 We really enjoy your podcasts, which we have been watching in preparation for a trip to Svalbard on a Hurtigruten Southbound tour with a hotel stay in Svalbard and cruise on the Hurtigruten Svalbard Express, MS Trollfjord, starting in Svalbard on 22 May.
On Sunday 26 May we spotted Christoffer and Grimm outside the Fruene cafe, where we had enjoyed delicious coffee and apple cake and we came to introduce ourselves! We were very pleased to meet them both and to have a chat. We enjoyed Svalbard with wind, snow, cold winds and bright sunshine, a wonderful and unique experience.
We were about to leave that afternoon for an unexpected two day, three flight trip with overnight in a hotel to get us to the ship, which unfortunately had not been able to reach Svalbard due to 12 metre waves and ice in the weather forecast! 😢 😢 How unlucky was that to miss the first part of our cruise! We will continue to watch your blogs as the summer advances! It looks like the weather has improved since we left! Kathy from UK

@CeciliaBlomdahl last summer we hit 107° F/41°C WITHOUT air-conditioning. I would be out there right now clinging to the snow with Grim!!!

The sunlight of svalbard begins
I love when our summer starts here in Edinburgh, Scotland after winter as I love that it stays light til 10pm but you still can sleep and it gets light around 5.30am right now! It just breathes new life and energy into you😊 I prefer the lighter nights but I don't know if I'd like it 24/7 😊 Just watched your last video with your mum and really enjoyed it and also last years one with your sis!! Weird not seeing Grimm though lol❤

Sweetie, why do you not place blinds that really completely block out sunlight or curtains that darkens the room (my son has those in his room and they work well!! And on my bedroom window I have blinds (shutters) on the outside of the window and love that cause I need to rest during the day most days, and like it very dark!! It would also really help a lot in your case.

I loooove daylight and have no issues sleeping during day but polar night is my idea of a nightmare. I am generally a night owl and do a lot of night shifts but I love the sun. My fav in canada is when its light by 5ish am until 11pm.
