The PSG soundchip Atari use is YMZ285 that has a built-in PCM. According to Wikipedia, " The Yamaha YMZ285 has a 28-pin package and features a built-in PCM. Has no parallel ports and two sound outputs: one with the three SSG channels mixed, other with the PCM output."

I don't think the STe has a YMZ285. The PCM is a separate DMA channel.
