Recently I've overclocked AMD's Ryzen 7 2700X. This time around it's time to increase the clock speed on the Ryzen 5 2600.
Currently out of the box, I'm getting a stable 3.85-3.9Ghz (did change some BIOS settings, and it's hitting the boost clock without a hitch). Overall, I'm happy with the 2600.
I wanted to see him do it with the stock cooler, but his accent is so awesome I stayed anyway.
Nice; those final stats (1.36v @ 4 GHz) is basically what I ended up getting stable for highest freq before needing to add even more voltage. Good to see that I wasn't alone in the freq/voltage wall that we hit, not that I didn't wish both of us could hit even higher clocks with the final voltages we had.
Also I am running Linux so I guess this is a software independent limitation that both of us had hit as well
Excellent video! cleared up a lot of my concerns, just picked up this chip and similar board, and similar water cooler. Had all the same problems!
I'm confused with gigabyte's bios.
So i just put the vcore to +0.106 putting the cpu to 3.9GHz.
So far no crash whatsoever, idling at 38 and max load at 60, the fans how ever are so loud, worth it i guess.
I got 4 Ghz 1.375 volts running Prime95 for hours, but still had occasional problems booting up. I decided to revert to stocks settings as a 3,9 GHz overclock isn't really that much of an improvement over the 3,7 Ghz all-core boost and 3,9 Ghz single core boost.
I have only the stock cooler right now. Is it worth it to do any overclocking? Or could I maybe do undervolting?
Overclock It Up to 3.8ghz and undervolt 0.1V
@@SergaFTW Yeah I have at 3.8 ghz with about 1.13 V. Is it good?
I'm so lost with all this stuff, im autistic its so confusing, im not sure if i've over clocked correctly, resolved a better fan spin issue for my gpu or anything ugh !
What would you advise for 2600x users? Overclock or keep it on stock? Is there a video for it? Thanks
Do i need to change anything if only bumping up to 3.8 ghz? And would this oc apply the same clock across all cores
u dont even have to oc. this cpu boost clock up to 3.9ghz
When I set offset voltage mode on my MSI X470 Gaming plus it puts the voltage to 1.48V and it doesn't drop below that
Ryzen 2600: Got 4.0GHz at 1.29V with 120mm cooler at 60c to 65c in gaming
I can go 1.37v to get 4.1GHz But I don't want heat to jump from 65c to 80c
Overall.. most Ryzen 2600 can go 4.0GHz at 1.3v (more or less)
1.35v for 4.0GHz is stupid, this video didn't even tried to go below 1.35v
Does it seem weird that I overclocked my Ryzen 5 2600 to 4.0GHz and my memory to 3200MHz and didnt change voltage for either and my temps are pretty low and my computer is very stable? I just think for being my first time overclocking... this was WAY to easy and I feel like something is just off about this whole experience. I've had custom computers for like 10 years and was always super scared to learn how to overclock and then i just changed a couple of frequencies in BIOS and here I am... lol
With very little increase if any, it seems that it would make more since to save the money from buying an aio and get a better cpu instead
How can it be that a i3 8100 wins against 2700x in far cry 5 when both single and multicore performance of the 2700x are better then the i3 8100?

Got a huge boost in FPS via running a DDR4-3866 Samsung B-Die kit at DDR4-3400 with low latency sub-timings for 1080p and 720p gaming FPS benchmarking using Ryzen Dram Calculator. Though, I heard a rumour that Intel's firmware patch for Spectre and Meltdown is switched off by default on their motherboards and when you switch it on it takes 8% of Coffeelake CPUs performance. So, if that rumour is true, my 2700X is probably faster than Intel 8700K OC 5Ghz for gaming benchmarks at 720p and 1080p.

Yeah, that is a given these days with the Ryzen 2nd Gen and DDR4-3400 CL14 and those extreme low latency sub-timings.

I'm not an Intel fanboy but I bought an 8400 for £135.
I see 4.2 GHz ryzen's matching or in some cases beating the 8400.
And all you see is childish comments about how it pwns and death to Intel etc.
It's not easy or cheap. It's not a Barton of old.
People think you buy a cheap mobo and ram and wang it up to 4.2 and laugh at intel.
It's a good CPU but a lot of videos are misleading people.
Just buy one, run at stock and when it isn't up to scratch buy whatever is out in 2020.
Oc is for enthusiasts not to pwn or save money.
@@naos21 a few months ago from Amazon.
I know obviously now they aren't worth the money.
But at the time It cost me the same more or less as the 2600.
But yet people want to build with a £90 water cooler, £200 ram and a £150 mobo, crank it up to 4.2 and show the difference between that and an 8400 in videos.
I fuckin hate jiffs like you going on about fan boys. Its a bit obvious that you are a fanboy yourself.
I couldn't give a toss. I've always had AMD and Intel. I have no allegiance.
It just annoys me people going on like the ryzen does 4.2 easily and cheap.
@@naos21 you can get cheap intel mobos too.
My point was for the 2600 to beat the 8400 you either need to be very lucky to get 4.2 on the cheap or buy a higher quality mobo, higher priced ram and a different cooler. You won't get 4.2 on a cheapo mobo and many report not breaking 3.9 with stock fan.
Unless you reach 4.2 you won't see higher performance.
I saw a video where someone had got an £150 mobo, water cooler and some pricey memory and showed how good it was compared to the 8400.
It's a bit misleading.
But yes as of today I would take a 2600x over the 8400. Intel prices are stupid atm.
But people dont realise how good the 8400 really is in games. As there is a lot of misinformation and fake graphs knocking about.

For gaming streaming, I should overclock this?
It will give you slightly better performance...like (10-15%)more
Back when we had one core cpu´s, we NEEDED to overclock for anything above stable 30fps at some point, except the guys who had P4 EEs. This recent 100FPS+ craze is marketing bullshit for decompensated pre-sexed teens.
We also needed to know about the basics, or our system would be toasted at first try.
If you ask for a problem before you have a problem, you don´t have a problem mate.
But if you want to touch your BIOS : start with learning how your system works first -
Then you may find out if you should overclock this.
Yeah this is true overclocking hardly increases performance especially if you don't know what you are doing plus for some of us overclocking is just fun

Depends if you can maximize cpu use from the get go.
Some people buy things with their work load in mind so overclocking the cpu yields the results they need immediately like cpu intensive tasks. Other times its to future proof in which case, over clocking might not do anything other than use more power since you won't be taking advantage of it. Like of you buy such a cpu, but your gpu isn't up to par, maybe don't overclock till you get that gpu
Perhaps turn oc one and off depending on what you plan to do.
I’m not pushing my 8700k until I see that it’s bottlenecking my gpu when shooting for 144fps 1440p. That will be a good 2 years minimum
I have the 2700 (not 2700x), and found it stable in Prime95, heavyload, cinebench etc at 4.0Ghz at 1.2v. It idles at 24C and under load reaches 55C (on AIO cooler). I can run it at 4.2Ghz on 1.45v, but I don't think it is worth the risk to CPU for only 5% speed improvement (temperatures were still below 65C max at that speed though).
Hmm i can run my r5 2600 stable on 4 ghz with 1.1375 volts ,with stock cooler.Temps wont go above 80 C.
I'm thinking of getting some descent watercooling and push it to its limits

2600 @ 4Ghz on less than stock voltage is impossible .. 1.13v is impossible
@@thetechoasis2179
1.1375 volts bro 4ghz it is real and stable
1.1375 lol mate .. i think u auto on cpu voltage
Why is it that my ryzen 5 2600 is stable at 3.9gz at 1.2v but I need 1.3 for 4gz
Will a wraith prism be able to handle a 2600 at 4ghz? Really want to get a prism for the looks but I'm not sure if it's just a waste of money if it can't overclock a 2600.
it will be stretching it a bit, if you dont mind it running a bit hotter then its up to you.
It is not efficient.
is almost 1.4 volt thats why is less efficent my 2700x at 4ghz required only 1.2 volt
dylan .dog so getting the X is better then? To require low voltage to high clockspeed
yes with X you have much better cooler and overclock headroom
dylan .dog damn not sure if xfr boost is good
yes it is if you leave it at stock speed
anyone else get disturbed by the saliva swooshing around
What is the song playing at 3:00? Really like it. Thanks to anyone who gives me the answer
can i overclock on my aorus b450 pro?
NaruCho yes but u have to use a weird vid. Use the am4 1700x overlock vid
I find overclocking pointless, the game still loses to i5 8400
Anyone else confused af?
If your confused your in the wrong place lol
Uhh ... I have a question , my r5 1600 not stable at 4.0Ghz (1.425 Vol ) ( when i stress test ) , what should i do to get 4.0 ? What else can i change ? B450 Tomahawk
Lower the clock speed to 3.9
1.425 Volts is high, pretty much maximum safe point for your processor. Don't ever go past that much volts unless you know what you're doing with your hardware.
so youre saying im fucked cause i got the b350 motherboard -_-
The devil is in the details, and this video report could use a few more (or at least make them easier to grasp). Stable overclock means different things to different people. For me, stable means capable of running under full CPU load for at least 12 hours, if not 24 hours (e.g., Prime95). Likewise, what is considered "too hot"? For me, I really don't like to see temperatures pushing into the 70 deg. C. range. When I overclock a CPU, I want to have complete confidence in running that setting; otherwise, the overclock speed is just for show, not real use.
My experience with this CPU (which might be unique to my chip) is that overclocking is not really worth it. The amount of extra voltage needed increases the CPU temperature sharply. Not only will you need a third party cooler, it will need to be a very high end air cooler or liquid cooler. The stock cooler made me uncomfortable running Prime95 at stock settings. I replaced it with an Arctic Freezer 33 TR, which is a decent air cooler, but not enough to handle increased voltages needed for overclocking this CPU.
Im able to do 3.8Ghz @ 1.35 volts on my Ryzen 5 2600
I'm pretty sure not worth spending 20Eur more on motherboard just to overclock ryzen 2600 and get only 5-10fps more. Change my mind.
I put 1.350 in Core voltage for 4 Ghz am I safe with 3466 Ghz ram with DRAM voltage 1.350 V
RaLyX ram speed and voltage do not affect the safety of your cpu overclock. You should check your cpu temperature. Try running Prime95 tress test for like 20 minutes and check the cpu temperatures using Core Temp monitor or something like that. It shouldn’t be over 80-85C. If it is you can try lowering the voltage by 0.01 to 0.05V at a time and check if its still stable and wether your temperatures have lowered enough.
just the power consumption doesn't worth the 1 or 2 fps more
He doesn't show the true benefit of the OC, the 1% and 0.1% lows are way higher which means much less stutters, and to me thats worth.
I overclock my R5 2600 without any problems.. with temperature below 45%
My only problem now is I need to change my graphic card SAPPHIRE RX470 to new GPU RTX2060 and my gaming live stream gonna be super!!! please pray for my success!
