For an Ilonggo, Bisaya has similarities to realy-deep hiligaynon and kinaray-a and a little Akyanon. Maybe If I watch enough Cebu TV news maybe I would be able to understand, however speaking is a different thing....

Sakto jd ka. Nastuck lng jd sa mga Bisaya(Cebuano) nga tawgon among pinulungan ug Binisaya instead of Cebuano(we can also call it Cebuano pero labaw jng gamiton ang term nga Bisaya). I guess it has to do with how the "Bisaya" term came first before the place got called Cebu where the language originated.

Kc pinagpapasensyahan n lng ng ibang bisayan people kahit sabihin nka sanayan n. Visayan people has many different parts of dialect, but there were 3 mosts major popular languaged in visayas. Waray,CEBUANO,at HILIGAYNON.
Merong akong neighbor mag asawa sila yung babae yung cebuana. Yun lng that's all folks..

Iloilo, capiz and antique alone they have another language aside from hiligaynon which is called kiniray-a where the words meanings changes from town to town. Example: ido(aso) to ayam to iro.

So it could be confusing because in national and cebuano context, bisaya refers only to cebuano language but in ilonggo context they are the bisaya.

The first spanish accounts limit the visayans to the panay people and called those in cebu "pintados")

When the speech between two communities are understandable to each other they are dialects. When the speech, despite similarities, are not understandable they are separate languages.
Marinduque tagalog is a dialect of tagalog despite being very different from others, so is batangueño tagalog from manila tagalog. Those are dialects.
Meanwhile, cebuano and hiligaynon are separate languages from tagalog as any monolingual speaker of those languages unacquainted to the others will have difficulty understanding the rest.
In linguistics, determination whether a speech is a dialect has been made blurry since related languages have dialect continuums instead of clear cut boundaries. Example of these are the austrian dialects of german language being markedly different from low german dialects. Another is arabic, where for example morroccan and iraqi dialects are significantly not understandable to each other and both also deviated much from standard arabic.
The misconception that philippines have different dialects instead of different languages is due to failure of foreign colonizers to realize that the languages are totally not understandable to each other. It has been recognized that the philippine languages are related to each other since 1600's. The terms language and dialect have been used interchangeably for a long time for describe our speech.

An old manuscript Maragtas of uncertain date (discovered by the anthropologist H. Otley Beyer)give interesting details about the laws, government, social customs, and religious beliefs of the early Visayans, who settled Panay within the first half of the 13th century. The term Visayan was first applied only to them and to their settlements eastward in the island of Negros, and northward in the smaller islands, which now compose the province of Romblon. In fact, even at the early part of Spanish colonialization of the Philippines, the Spaniards used the term Visayan only for these areas. While the people of Cebu, Bohol, and Leyte were for a long time known only as Pintados. The name Visayan was later extended to them because, as several of the early writers state (especially in the writings of the Jesuit Lorenza po Hervás y Panduro published in 1801), albeit erroneously, their languages are closely allied to the Visayan "language" of Panay. This fact indicates that the ancient people of Panay called themselves as Visayans, for the Spaniards would have otherwise simply referred to them as "people of the Panay". This self-reference as Visayans as well as the appellative (Panay - a riminescence of the State of Pannai) that these people give to the Island manifest a strong sign of their identification with the precursor civilization of the Srivijayan Empire.

In your challenge , you should translate it in English not Tagalog....Bisaya is a dialect from the Visayan regions, It includes, Cebu, Negros Oriental, Negros, Occidental Iloilo, Bacolod, Bohol, Leyte, Samar, Palawan, Dumaguete, and other provinces I did not mention. The dialects spoken in this provinces are a family of Bisayan dialect, the roots came from Cebu and just mix and similarities of the dialect words and are almost the same except for some Tagalog words that is borrowed from each of the Province and other Islands, Also some of the dialects are spoken in Mindanao. Mindanao provinces also speak and understand Bisayan, but there is more to it, more and more dialects are spoken in Mindanao also. I am not a historian, That is why we Filipinos are divisive because of regional dialects and Islands. We are all brothers and sisters with the same ethnic race. That is why we can only understand with each other by speaking English..The Philippines is not a homogenous race like Japan or Korea although we are Asians with several Islands, they still say Tagalog or Pilipino is the mean Language, I dont agree because that divides the Country...We were colonize by Spain, U.S.A. and invaded by Japan to which are not our Fault..

Bisaya!? Hahaha, Ilonggo is real bisaya. The word "Bisaya" was first documented in Spanish sources in reference only to the non-Ati inhabitants of the island of Panay and possibly parts of Negros. They were described by the Spanish as being "white people" with no tattoos. In contrast, the Spaniards called the inhabitants of other Visayan islands as the Pintados ("the painted ones") in reference to their practice of tattooing their entire bodies. It is unlikely that "Bisaya" was used as a collective endonym by the closely related native Visayans prior to the Spanish arrival.

To make this straight.from.the Tagalog or non Visayan people understanding that ilongo or hiligaynon is same Lang SA Bisaya/Cebuano because they are in the Visayas ..but they are wrong..we all agreed that this are Visayan people the largest group of people living in visayas and Mindanao area..but hiligaynon and Cebuano are not mutually intellible.they are different language..and there's is no such language as Bisaya..Bisaya is an informal or colloquial term of Cebuano speaking people in visayas and Mindanao are..they have different Cebuano dialect like ,davaoeno cebuano.bohol Cebuano, caraga Cebuano,. slightly differ in delivery and intonation but they can understand each other very much.and the largest Bisaya/ Cebuano speakers are not in Cebu or visayas but in Mindanao island.
