IMO you shouldn't live your life like that, being happy and relaxed with your family is more important than how much money you make each week. After all, if you don't have the time to spend with your family, what's the point of the money? Smart people use money to buy time, not time to buy money.

Really interesting, Tom and Carl seem well matched together, they are no doubt passionate about growing their business and very successful in doing so, I thought Tom Jr deserved an honourable mention, you can see even more after watching this while jr broke away, his passion for cars, especially minor detail and history seem on another level from his brother and father. Both amazing businesses, but I could listen to Tom Jr for days describing his stock.

My observation is these two can’t delegate ! Tom Senior shouldn’t be working and grinding as hard as he visually suggests he does. Everyone needs a healthy work life balance. I think the most interesting member of this family is Tom Hartley Jnr, that’s the real story. Having the balls to leave the family firm and set up the operation he has excites me more. When all said and done there’s loads of dealers selling this type of super car fodder in the UK and certainly in Dubai.

Their company is THEM. why would high net worth clients of many years want to deal with some young pup with cheap aftershave when they can continue to deal with Tom Snr and Carl. They've said many times their business is built on repeat clients. Those repeat clients have trust and comfort with the Hartley boys.

I do agree with your observations and believe that if the business is run the way that THS suggests then there needs some urgent attention on how to delegate. I believe that THS is now in his 60s and still controlling the business full-time, whilst his son plays a small part. In theory, there should’ve been an official handover around a decade ago, or an external MD taking the reigns for a while until CH can take over, I fear that the day when THS goes will be the end of the business due to poor planning. Tom Hartley Junior does really interest me, to leave the family business and set up one yourself does take a lot of balls, he has become a leader of modern car selling and has a car stock which THS would ever dream of.

LOL I just realised Im dyslexic HAHAHA. My mum said I never learnt to crawl, I went from sitting to walking. She said I watched everyone walk then one day just got up and started walking. Ive been like that all my life. I dont care about the middle, I go straight to the end. Thank you, I thought i was a weirdo.
also when I go car shopping I dress bad and go after all the cars I want and keep walking away from dealers who think I dont have money then end up buying from the dealer who treats me with respect lol. So far Audi have been the best to me so far. I went to buy a new Cupra to test their brand and they wouldnt let me demo the car so crossed that brand off my list lol.

@@ngbc5100 yes. Tom Hartley deals with cars potentially worth a million pounds whilst JC deals with cars worth tens of millions. Toms other son seems to sell multi million pound cars but Snr never seems to mentions him .

Yes I’m aware of both of them. Rumours have always been, that they fell out over money and JNR found himself a nice backer in the form of Bernie Ecclestone to build his business.

Hi Guenther, when you transfer goods it’s bartering so no tax, how ever when you sell the item you have bartered for you are liable for the tax on the profit. Thanks for watching.MT 😎

@@Strikeitbig Great interview but wrong about tax on bartering. HMRC statement: "If you supply services or goods and receive other goods or services in payment, there are 2 separate supplies:
      a) the supply from you to your customer
      b) the supply from your customer to you
You must account for VAT, and so must your customer if they’re VAT-registered. The VAT treatment is the same as for part-exchanges. You must both account for VAT on the amounts you would each have paid for the goods or services if there had been no barter and they had been paid for with money."
The taxman doesn't barter and receives VAT in the same tax year. If you only paid tax on any profit on sale of the bartered item, it would be minimal. Because values for exchanged items must be at fair market value with any difference made up for in cash at the time of the deal. Otherwise the taxman will be suspicious of tax evasion.
Keep up the great podcasts 👍

That’s why we wanted to get both Carl and Tom on the show, as it’s very similar to how me and Curtis operate our businesses. There is lots of hard work that goes on behind the scenes of big personal brands.

Hi Raj, He is very cool with out even trying to be cool. Carl Hartley is alstroemeria a chip of the old block as well but able to push the business to a new audience via social media etc. Just like Curtis and my self, Tom and Carl are 50:50 partners. So great to be able to work with your son. Thanks for watching. MT 😎
