Thank you. This was exactly the problem I had. I called around and found the replacement converter unit at U-Haul for $50. It took about 1 hour for replacement.
just bought a trailer few days ago.everything worked on the hook up from truck to trailer except back right turn signal. We tried everything, nothing. We took the back rear tail lights off and spliced a wire to the red (hot) instead.it worked! there's a bad connection in the piggy tail section on the green wire apparently.so the wires all the way from the front of the truck,to the rear tail light (spliced),from there to the harness.from the harness connecting to the harness of the trailer and presto.it works.Had it not been for the guy i bought the trailer from,i would of never bought it,let alone brought it home.he knew his stuff with wiring.
If the ground at the hitch really is where most problems happen, I think that's the first thing I'd check, especially if the trailer's hooked up and the truck is idling in the driveway.
Hey i have new curts trailer harness wire on my car and new trailer light.when i turn my headlight on my trailer light up but no turn signal, hazard light or brake light. Do you think its a bad ground from my car wiring harness?
Great vid, subscribed to your channel! It's nice to Sully from Godsmack staying busy! Haha, just messing with you man, looking forward to watching your other/future vids, cheers!
I have an old tent trailer that has black, green, yellow. It also has a blue/red wire alongside. There is also a black/red wire coming out that was screwed into the trailer (potential ground). I cannot get the 4 way connector to work. I've tried almost every color combination. Any ideas? Best I've got was the opposite signal was working and the other both flashed dimly.
can you tell me the make and model of your tester and where you purchased it. I know nothing about them but have no lights on a trailer to which I just installed new lights and lines and I'm pretty sure they are connected correctly. Also, I just recently rented a trailer at U-Haul and all the lights worked. But who knows, maybe a fuse blew or the connector was damaged. But I don't know if my voltmeter will test this as I think it is set for house electricity. Is your meter for cars only, yes? What is it, please?
So, just to make sure I understand: when the truck is running and the lights are on I should get a signal from the ground on the truck? Currently I am getting a signal from the brown, left, and right - not the ground.
Thank you, I was hoping that was the case. It makes sense when you think about it. Anyway, thanks to you the problem is solved - trailer lights are working perfectly. Much appreciated!
All test lights have poor wire clamps . Clamp the very smallest ViseGrips tightly to a good ground , then the test light ground clamp to them . Keep in mind LED testers will illuminate with very low voltage .
Tilt Trailers must be grounded on the bed not the tongue! if you ground on the tongue your going through the hinges and the lights will cut out when you drive, if you ground through the bed where the lights are bolted to, your good.
I have power beyond the pigtail connector ,But the turn signals are not flashing for either right or left on the trailor. The break lights work just no signals. What could be causing this issue?
My problem. 2006 Town and Country. I check for current and I get 12v at connection prong. When I connect the led lights, voltage drops to 6v. What could be wrong. I retied ground connections screws, unless the lights shorted out?
I'm trying to hook up a four pin connector harness to my car that hooks into the trailer. I think I have all the wires connected properly but there only seems to be juice to the left turn signal on the adaptor...any ideas?
You may want to first test the circuits that you are wiring into to see if there is power in those circuits and that they are also functioning correctly.
I was having a similar problem and was spending way more time than I had planned to sort out the issue before hunting season.. I was ready to hire out to sort out the issue as the lights went from only one side to none at all.. checked truck set up.. redid trailer wire set up and checked ground as well.. hooked truck to another trailer and everything worked! Talked to a pal who suggested I grind down the metal flap from trailer the light is attached to.. sure enough the flap was rusty.. i ground down the rust to bare metal and used dialectric grease .. changed the nut and washer which were rusted as well..tadaaa! Christmas tree lights in September!
Screw the wiring, check your tire valve stems first. I borrowed a trailer from this clown that never checked the valve stems. Valve stems don't have a freakin R in them either
Trailer will only light up when headlights are turned on. All bulbs are on but , brake , Left, turn, right turn, emergency flasher, (functions) not working. Light on but not functions work???
Test the plug coming out of the vehicle first to see if all circuits function properly. Then follow the wires on the trailer to see if any are crossed or broke or possibly a bad ground.
Homeowner Repair: If the trailer turn signals are also the trailer brake lights, then if I hook the brake output wire to the trailer left and right turn signal wires, doesn't that mean my car brake lights will come on when I use a turn signal, and that my car turn signal lights will come on when I use my brakes? I don't want that to happen, lol.
I just bought a trailer i hooked it up only my signals and break light. So i rehooked it to another truck and they all light up and stay on why is that?
If the trailer stays lit on the second vehicle, your first one has a problem with the wiring or most likely a bad fuse. I had this happen a few years ago and a mechanic replaced one fuse to make a rear turn signal work. I would check the fuses first as they're the easiest to check.
You have to start at the vehicle and make sure there is power to the brake light circuit at the plug end. If there is then the problem is in the trailer wiring.
Homeowner Repair yk that was 2 years ago. But thanks for the reply. Actually have purchased a new boat and sold that one. So many problems started popping up we new it was time to get rid of that ole baby. Still miss her tho 😢

If all of the wires from the car are working correctly the issue might be in the trailer plug end or wiring. I would probe the trailer plug wire to see if the current for left side your loosing is beyond the plug on the trailer. I like to use a test light because they are easy to use.

So we should not check for a bad bulb first?
Do you know why where you plug in the trailer plug I tested them one of them have more power than other one
I'm not sure what you are asking
@@HomeOwnerRepair so when I do the tester on the plug in the one for the trailer breaks the light not as bright as the other lights
When I plug in the trailer hitch it blows a fuse in the car (Honda Element 2010). Any suggestions?
Check to see if there is a pinched wire somewhere or a frayed wire that might be grounding out.
Thanks!
my trailer has lights on the right side no problem. the left side has the turn lights but no break light and park light

If the circuit flashes on the pigtail, the issue has to be on the trailer somewhere

There’s probably a bad ground in the trailer. Clean the grounds and see if it helps
Yes, it was a bad ground producing only 6v. I appreciated man, thanks!
